I Need a Goal, Dammit

Low energy.

FullSizeRender

Don’t look up my shorts

That is me today. Funny thing is, despite having no enthusiasm for anything including feeding the dog and eating oatmeal, I was very inspired during my run. I thought it would be a crap-fest, but it wasn’t. I think I was working out all my overall blah-ness during the run.

IMG_4579

Reasons I may be uninspired (why do we have to have a reason, some things just are, right?):

  • GJF (General Job Fatigue)
  • Had only one cup of coffee today
  • It’s still too warm here in CO. Let’s have fall weather, Mother F&cking Nature.
  • I don’t have a race on the calendar. I am lost without a goal. LOST.
  • The Walking Dead doesn’t start for a couple of weeks. I have no shows that excite me. Except for Fear of the Walking Dead. I think Fear of the Walking Dad would be a funny show. You? Here he comes:

Image result for dad images

  • It’s hump day. Weekend is still just a glimmer of hope in the distance.
  • I’m tired of vacuuming up all of Heidi’s hair. I swear, each time I empty the vacuum it is like emptying a whole new dog into the trash. One of these days I will make a merkin. Don’t know what that is? Go look. But, probably not a good idea to Google image it.
  • No one is returning my calls. Why. Why??

That I all. Now I am going to eat roast chicken and rice casserole.

How is your energy these days?

What is your next race goal?

What did you have for dinner? Inspire me. I need ideas.

  1. 1) My energy was fine until I caught the "back to school head cold" from my kids the other day. Ran 5 miles yesterday anyway because because I refuse to let the cold beat me. Don't want to do much else, though.
    2) My next race goal is to finish a half without having to fight off leg cramps. Will train over the winter and come back next spring ready to finish strong and set new PR's [hopefully].
    3) Haven't eaten yet... probably leftover cheeseburger soup or tacos.

  2. Roasted Brussels sprouts and gnocchi and some ham. Perfect.

Thanks for making me look up merkin. But I DIDN'T google it...yet...

  3. I have my very first marathon on Sunday. I can't even begin to describe the emotions that I am already going through! The taper is driving me absolutely nuts!

I am an empty nester and I can eat whatever I want anymore. My husband is eating some meatless chicken strips (that is what they are called) and I'm having smoked gouda grilled cheese.

  4. Revel Canyon City Marathon on November 7th (https://www.runrevel.com/rcc) Doing a tune-up 25k while on Oahu this Sunday (http://808racehawaii.com/races/25k/) So feeling pretty energized!

Dinner tonight: Kalua pork and cabbage from the local Hawaiian grocery store.

  5. After fighting a virus that caused vertigo for 2 weeks, I feel amazing! Today I ran 6 miles, cleaned the entire house, cleaned the car, did yard work, and took the new dog for a few mile walk.

I totally get the excessive amount of dog hair. We just got a German shepherd and I think I'm going to go crazy with all the dog hair(I'm a little OCD when it comes to cleaning. Ok a lot OCD).

Just ran the Bird in Hand half marathon 3 weeks ago and will run another half in November. Having ran both races before It is always my goal to improve my time.

We had left over crockpot mexican turkey chili with homemade corn bread. The crockpot has been a huge time saver!
Have you ever ran the Blue Ridge Marathon? It is in Apirl every year and boast to be the toughest road marathon. It is definitely intense!

Totally enjoy your blog, always gives me a good laugh.

  6. Energy? What energy? I'm tapering for Chicago and I am exhausted. Some one mentioned to me that it might be my age. Oh, that just made my day!

  8. I was feeling GREAT until my half marathon got cancelled. Stupid Joaquin. My next race is an ultra in January. Official training starts in 1 week, but now I feel so flat. This half was supposed to be my major pr/goal race, and now, pfft. Whine whine whine.

  9. How is your energy these days? Low and blah! It always happens when we start to lose daylight. Double bonus my doc thinks I'm getting shingles and i'm only 41!

What is your next race goal? I too am goaless - need to come up with SOMETHING!

What did you have for dinner? Inspire me. I need ideas. Since it has been fall here in MN, I'm getting back to making things in my oven. Last night we had a cornbread/chili pie - I made chili sort of stuff (ground beef, tomatoes, Schwan's roasted corn, onions, green chilies) and top it with cornbread (recipe on the side of the cornmeal container) and bake at 350 until the cornbread topper is done. It was excellent and made for great leftovers.

PS I have a 15 year old long haired cat and I dump out another cat each time I vacuum. I've been trying to save the fur and "trump my cat" but he won't sit still for the pic.

  10. I just did the Beat the Blerch/NJ race and have another half (the Halloween Half) in mid-October. I'm also doing a 3-mile trail race with my dog next weekend. I can't wait for that!

  11. My next race is my first full marathon in Detroit on Oct 18th! Super excited. And nervous. Mostly nervous.

I've been stuffing a lot of things. Sausage & apple stuffed acorn squash. Apple & bacon stuffed sweet potatoes. Stuffing my mouth with all things carbolicious....

PS: you look pretty fierce in that photo. (running, not the one where you're laying down - not so fierce there, sorry)

    1. Good luck at Detroit!! I did it last year and loved it!! Going over the bridge into Canada is awesome! Enjoy every moment because you're only a virgin once! :-)

  12. Tapering for Chicago and I am exhausted. Like, I just want to fall over and go to sleep at any given moment, why do my kids and students expect me to be functioning? Just give me carbs and a blankie until it's race day.

  13. I'm actually looking forward to having some down time. Taper week before Chicago and I'm actually enjoying it for once. It's too bad we can't all just run and not have to worry about anything else. :) We had soup last night because it was chilly. Come on over to Illinois if you want some cool weather.

  14. I have a 10K this weekend and a half in November. It is nice and cool here for a change. I was hoping to get a run in but I have to stick around for the UPS man.

Made 'Ugly Chicken' for dinner last night. It tastes much better than it looks. ( My sons named it years ago)

  15. Tired but enjoying tapering for a marathon we are running in ten days. Anything edible fits my menu.
I like the Merkin idea (will help me pay off my Dyson vacuum
cleaner) but how do you explain the flea bites....

    1. Flea bites? I guess you could just pass them off as crabs. Eww.

  17. I discovered your blog a couple weeks ago. I liked it so much, I started reading it from the beginning like a book. Yes, runners are weird…
I find your blog really inspiring, although I do not aim for your mileage (kilometers in Germany) or your speed. Great work, keep it up!

    Goal suggestion: Berlin Marathon

  18. I feel the same way when I don't have a race up on the agenda! My energy has been a bit off due to my job being busy and then working out after work...I'm exhausted by 9 pm!

  19. I just discovered a roasting bag for chicken. It comes with the spices. Put chicken in a big. Add spices. Add a bit of water. Bake for one hour and 20 minutes. Nothing easier. I am in France, not sure if the bag is in the US, but probably. Chicken in a big might be as good as Ugly Chicken.

How about the Paris Marathon ? Its in exactly 6 months.

    1. If course that should say bag ! not big. And I made the error twice. Jeez...

    2. Chicken in a big (bag) sounds good! Paris would be a dream. I lived there for 6 months in college - would love to see the city again by running through it!

  20. I ran a 5K to sponsor my daughter's school today and have a 20 mile long run tomorrow. I am feeling stupid for trying to keep up with the school cross country crowd and now my legs are smoked. No choice but to plow through the 20 mi tomorrow because USMC is right around the corner.

  21. Clearly, one cup of coffee isn't enough.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree.... If I don't have a race scheduled my life is just off. And one cup of coffee is definitely not enough. My next race is tomorrow, the Medtronic Twin Cities full. We shall see how it goes. My goal is to PR as the conditions are favorable but you know..... It's running and every day is a new day.

  23. The Other Half (Moab) is still a couple of weeks out. It's crazy beautiful here this time of year (even if there are 100 cars backed up at the entrance to Arches). Cheers, Jen

  24. You look ridiculously strong in that running photo! I'm taking a little jump back into racing for a month after a self imposed, summer-long break from competition. Looking forward to it, no matter the distance. My energy level waxes and wanes. Lately, I'm exhausted, but I just worked three twelve hour night shifts in a row, so that may explain it. I'm going into work tonight, so I just whipped up a quick veggie burger and some steamed eggplant with tomato sauce. Gotta keep it healthy because I tend to snack all night when I'm at work :) Not that there's anything wrong with snacking!

  25. So do I, I need a detail plan to gain weight. My body's so fat.

  26. Great blog! I just found it looking for support for my next run, the Chicago Marathon - my first. Feeling excited and anxious. Also worried that I may have set my goals a little high. I think I'll just shut up and run! Energy level feels really slow during the taper. Dinner? Last night we had roasted celeriac and thyme soup blended with brocolli. I could have just eaten the roasted thyme and celeriac. Yum. Thanks for the blog.
