I’m really picky about my running shoes, as we all should be. As you know I've had many running related injuries. This has led to many hours spent pool running (ugh...awful) and bruises under my arms from crutches. Don’t even get me started on the PT co-pays and self-pity parties (attended by me and wine). I do not want to return to that dark place.
I don’t think shoes are a cure all, but I do think they factor in. The shoe itself doesn’t make you a better runner, but it can encourage a certain foot strike or can remedy things like over-pronation - all important injury prevention aspects. And, there is always the placebo affect. In certain shoes you feel faster and like you have better form and voila – sometimes your thoughts make it so.
So…I’ve got my favorite shoes that fit me like the perfect glass slipper. And, I stick to them like flies on shit. I used to run in Mizunos, but haven’t for a few years, mostly because I went to a lower drop heel to toe shoe.
But, I was interested when Mizuno asked me to review their new Wave Rider 19s. People love the Wave Riders like they were magic, so I had to try them.
Truth be told, I wasn’t sure I would love the shoe. As I’ve been in a more minimalist shoe lately, I thought the Wave Rider 19s, might be just too much of a shoe for me.
Wrong. Seriously. It was kind of love at first sight and love at first run with these babies.
The fit, the comfort, the look all cliqued with me. I like a shoe I do not have to think about when I run. It just feels right, so I forget about it. No rubbing in the wrong places, no toes hitting the front of the shoe, etc. I like a shoe that is somewhat sturdy so it holds up on dirt roads and does not wear out too quickly. These babies met my criteria.
