I Shut Up and Ran

Yesterday, Saturday, was the perfect example of a a shut the hell up and run day.

I had slept awfully the night before (what is it with getting older and being restless and never sleeping through the night anymore?) I had been dealing with a couple of stressful issues weighing heavily and that probably factored in. I woke up to 30 degrees and rain (that was promising to turn into snow). I was planning to meet a friend for her first ever trail run (you know who you are) and Ken said, "You could just text her that you are canceling."

WTF. Are you kidding me? How long has this man been married to me. No way do I cancel running. Shut Up and Run is my blog title for a reason. It is not Shut Up and Text To Cancel Running.

Tired? SUAR. Busy? SUAR. Hungover? SUAR. Have your period? SUAR. Don't feel like it? SUAR. Clearly, SUAR is the answer. I might make an exception if I was projectile vomiting only because that's socially awkward (or diarrhea - but traditionally that hasn't even held me back). Other than that, I'm in.

So, off we went. Do not ask what prompted me to wear shorts. It was warmer at my house than in the hills, that is my only excuse.

Before you ask (because I get tons of questions on this):
My hydration pack is the Hydra Quiver from Orange Mud
I am happy to represent as one of their new ambassadors!

We did 8 miles with about 1,200 feet of gain. We were literally the only ones out there with the exception of some fatso huge wild turkeys (if I had brought my gravy and mashed taters I might have slaughtered one right there) and some deer with a little baby. I am a sucker for "baby" anything. Baby-most-poisonous-snake-in-the-world? I love you.

As always I was glad I got out there. And my friend? She killed it. She is a 52 year old strong as hell runner. She will be doing the TransRockies with me this year (6 days - 120 miles). Bring it on. She was smart enough to dress for the weather.

And after a nap, many calories (egg/avocado/salad/birthday cake) and a glass of wine I have transformed and am headed out for the night. Because, well, I deserve it dammit.

Tell me about you run this weekend.

Do you have more trouble sleeping the older you get?

SUAR

  1. Last night I just couldn't get to sleep. I turned 50 in September. Whatever. I got up at 5 am and did my scheduled 8 mile run. I felt fine. I was yawning over and over at Target afterwards. I am kicking my son off the xbox in a bit so I can take a nap (he is loud when multi-playing). Good jobs getting out there Beth, you are tough as hell!!

  2. 10 mile run yesterday, mostly flat. Trying to dial in a good pace for my next half, which will be very flat, but couldn't seem to back the pace off. Still had a good run, but can't do that pace for 13.1 miles.

Yes, trouble sleeping as I get older. Hip, back, and knee pain from running don't help matters any. Tried Tylenol PM, put it dehydrates me, so I won't use it the night before I run.

  4. That looks like a really fun run! Minus the shorts/snow combo maybe. =)

My daughter's senior prom is coming up. They are doing a masquerade theme. Your picture reminded me we still need to find her a mask!

  5. Oh em gee, Beth...you are simply badass to the core. I'm a bit embarrassed to tell you about my silly little 10 mile run this morning in 50-ish temps, a clear blue sky, no breeze....I am certainly sticking this one in my back pocket so I can tell myself to SUAR when I'm lacking motivation. Thanks for always inspiring me!

  6. Walks the walk of shame... I got in a measly, sluggish 4 miles because of jet lag yesterday. Due to perimenopause I go through periods (pun intended) of insomnia and that really messes with my running. I KNOW if I SUAR I will feel better, but getting out the door is the hardest!

  7. Way to get out there still!!!!!! I'm injured and calling the doc when they open up tomorrow! I pray it's nothing that'll keep me from training longer than 2 weeks at most!!!😳💩

  8. Haven't commented on your bog before but I've been reading for a few months. Way to get out in this crazy CO weather! I was visiting a friend out towards Denver this weekend and enjoyed a sleety Saturday and snowy Sunday run - much more enjoyable to get pummeled with frozen rain/snow with a friend by your side :)

  9. I don't want to rub it in but it was 80 glorious sunny degrees here in Chicago. No wind. Really, it was perfect. Pretty sure it will snow tomorrow.

  10. Yes. Sleeping sucks as you get older, then talk to my wife about menopause. My run was 15, slow by your standards, 7:30 / K, but lovely warm weather, brilliant sunshine. I could go on. And SUAR is the answer!

  11. I have been following for a bit now. I have a marathon in 4 weeks and had a terrible half last weekend (Including swearing at myself halfway through and puking 5 times during the race). After that I promised myself to do a redemption 20 this weekend. Didn't see the weather forecast until later in the week. I still made myself do it and couldn't be happier. I don't think I could have been wetter or colder had I jumped in a lake but I did it. I love your SUAR saying. Ps- You are a freaking riot and I find myself literally laughing out load while reading! :)

  12. Hot damn you're looking good in that dress! :) Makes me want to run in shorts in the snow if that's what it takes! ha! My run was in 75 degrees and Colorado like skies and sunshine. But it snowed earlier this week.

  13. I got out and ran 6.3 miles before the snow hit. I'm in Wyoming so you got hit before us. I did wear long pants, though! Thank goodness we'll all be back in the 70s soon.

  14. My run didn't happen because of the snow we got in Wyoming. I woke up at five to head down to Fort Collins for the Horsetooth Half, only to learn that all the roads leaving out of town were closed. It was SUCH a bummer. I will complain to anyone and everyone about it for the next month probably.

  15. I'm very embarrassed to say I ran 15 on Saturday. Embarrassed because I bundled up like the Michelin Man (base layer and then wind/water proof stuff), and then when I was 2 miles into my "run," I noticed that there was a 5K/10K/half/full going on in Westminster, on the Big Dry Creek Trail, where I was also running. Guys in shorts and long-sleeve Ts, almost done with their FULL marathons. And here I am, wincing as the snain relentlessly poked my face, just like it was doing to them, only their legs, too. I was supposed to run 17, but I wimped out near the end. Also, I did a lot of stupid walking. While I despise the quality of the "run," I'm really glad I went out and did it.

The sleeping (or lack thereof) - YES. I turned 45 in January. I thought our new super puffy, brand-name, badass bed we recently got was going to fix my issues. Nope. The bed is super comfy - awesome for reading before bed, and awesome for not wanting to get up when the alarm goes off - but other than that, no difference in actual sleep time between the new one, and the cheap knockoff we had before. I still sleep like shit.

  16. Dr. UDAZE, you are indeed a miracle worker.I have tried so many spell casters and psychic after my husband left me. Dr. UDAZE was the only spell caster who could help me..For sure this is really an Ultimate temple where you can get back your ex lover. Dr. UDAZE cast a love spell and my husband changed for good, he made him a better man and distanced all his secret lovers. I am happy to have a united family, it couldn’t be possible without the effort of Dr. UDAZE. My husband is back full of love and sincerity. 17. I sloshed through a 10 mile run on Sunday. The Platte trail was mostly clear but massive puddles and slush soaked my feet in the first mile. I got snowed on and hailed on then as I finished up the sun came out. Ahhhh, Colorado in the spring. Good times. I hit 40 last year and yes, I've noticed sleeping is sometimes not as easy as it used to be.

  18. I ran Race to Robie Creek 1/2 here in Boise, Idaho. It was great. Beat last year's time by 12minutes!!! It was in the 70's and felt flipping hot climbing that mountain! I enjoy your blog, very humorous!

  24. Are you having a hard time searching for a way to get your ex partner back, look no further, this was how i got mine back you can get yours today. My husband and I have been through every top reason for divorce; financial struggles, bankruptcy, stressful jobs, becoming parents when we weren’t ready (neither one of us would give our kids back just the amount of stress is overwhelming) we fought ALL the time over anything and everything. I threatened divorce all the time. One day after a fight I said I was done and filling. He told me he wasn’t in love with me anymore. After a day or two of cooling off I realized that divorce is not what I wanted. No, our marriage was not healthy but we had so much going against us an neither one of us were trying. I begged for him to forgive me and that I didn’t mean it. He told me he loved me but wasn’t in love with me anymore. Those words hurt and I believed him.One day i was online for tutor, as i was browsing i saw a review about a spell caster who could solve my problem, i have heard about spell casting, and magic, i said i should give it a try i contacted the spell caster his name is Dr Ewan of {covenantsolutiontemple@gmail.com}, i contacted him and he told me not to worry that all he had to do for me is a love spell, he did it and told me that i should give my husband 48 hours and that he would realize him self, i waited anxiously and one the second day of casting the spell, he came to me and told me he was sorry for the wrong he did to me, he has agreed to send me to school and we are happy. Thank you Dr Ewan you are the best. If you have any marital problem, winning of lottery and many other problems you can contact him on his email, {COVENANTSOLUTIONTEMPLE@GMAIL.COM} or call his mobile number +2347052958531, he is a good and kind man.
