Shut Up and Run Is Famous! Well, At Least for 15 Minutes.

A good day. Oh, yeah.

Last night I pitched a tent out on the driveway so I could catch the paper when the delivery dude threw it at the house. Well, not really, but I did go outside first thing at 6:30 a.m., pre-run, to grab the paper and found this on the front of the Life Section…..

timescall(Nice heel strike, huh?)

And, a great article about me and the Shut Up and Run blog…check it out online HERE unless you want a personal copy. I’m going to 7-11 to buy them all.  I might also pick up a Slurpee and 1/3 lb. Big Bite. Wonder if I still get an employee discount from those two shifts I worked that summer at the beach.  Breakfast of champions. Talk about massive dumps!

I love that the phrases “runners mess their pants” and “take massive dumps” can be found within the first few paragraphs of the article. I am nothing if not authentic. I am shocked our local paper would print the word dump if it wasn’t in relation to a truck or a cake (ever heard of dump cake? Despite the name it’s really good). Our little paper might only have a circulation of 21,000 but I’m not complaining.

Today is also the day I interview Dean K. by phone. I busted out a quick 8 miles this morning to calm the nerves. Not sure why I’m jittery. He’s just a man, right? Not a god or something. I keep telling myself to imagine him in his underwear like I learned on the Brady Bunch (remember the Driver’s Seat episode where Jan is nervous presenting in front of people, and Mike gives her the advice to picture them in their underwear?).  But, then I get all frazzled again because it’s Dean in his underwear. Need I say more?

Stay tuned later this week when I’ll post the interview!!

  1. First things first - congratulations. I expect you will have much more than 15 minues of fame.

That said, I fear I will no longer be worthy enough to read your blog. Oh well, at least we'll always have Poop University.

  9. I saw Dean K running on a treadmill several years ago at a marathon expo. Wow. He is fast, tight and just like a machine. he is not skin and bones either, but a tough guy.

Good for you making your paper!

  10. Great article and picture. It's also good to know you have "piercing blue eyes", that's not something I would've been able to tell through my computer. :) Seriously though, way to go you!

  19. YEA!! Congratulations on the 15 minutes. :)

That actually is an awesome photo. I love the intensity on your face. The shades totally work. Don't worry about the apparent heel strike. Any kind of downward slope can cause that, and you really can't tell a heel strike until you see the foot actually hit. And in big heeled shoes, its hard not to hit your heel first anyway.

  29. Great article! You are awesome!

And I can understand being nervous. Whenver I have to interview a "celebrity" of any level for an article, I get so nervous. Don't sweat it though. Two minutes into the interview you'll be cruising and calm.

  30. Wow, nothing seems to be misquoted. That's impressive.
