No News

How does someone just disappear?

After a fitful night of tossing and turning with unsettling visions racing through my brain, I took a run this morning. For Sherry. I visualized her safe return. I prayed for no fear or suffering. As I took in the gorgeous mountains and breathed the crisp winter air, I imagined Sherry safe, smiling and running. That girl loves to run.

If you missed yesterday’s post, my friend and relative, Sherry Arnold, has been missing since Saturday morning when she took a run in the small town of Sidney, Montana. Her shoe was found Saturday afternoon. Extensive searching by hundreds of volunteers and the National Guard have turned up no leads. The story is now making national news with hopes that someone, somewhere, knows something.

All day yesterday, I kept silently repeating, “Sherry, where are you?”

Yes, I have a personal connection to this story. Yet my fears and grief are a tiny fraction of what her family, friends, students and community are facing right now. My heart simply breaks for everyone who is hurting and those who are missing their mother, their wife, their teacher, their coach, their daughter, their friend.

I know not everyone wears their heart on their sleeve like I do. To me, putting it out there helps me to cope and to process. Sharing sorrow and tragedy brings us all closer and make us realize that we are more alike than we are different. Through desperate times comes an outpouring of love and support that reminds us of what is important.

I appreciate your support more than you know. On some level – be it as a mother, a runner, a woman – most of us can identify with this story.

I am remaining hopeful for a happy ending. Sherry has a strong and faithful spirit. She is a cancer survivor and a fighter. Please keep her in your thoughts.

  8. Not much I can do from here in Washington state, but I've been posting the link to the news channel on both my Facebook and Twitter, hoping it will help. We're a military family, hopefully somewhere along the line the news will branch out to as many people in many places as possible.

I can't stop thinking about this. We're praying for everyone involved.

  66. Watch dear Lord,
with those who wake or watch or weep tonight, and give Your angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend Your sick ones, O Lord Christ,

    Soothe Your suffering ones.

    Shield Your joyous ones
And all for Your love's sake.
