Sent from Val in McAllen, TX
What a morning. How is it possible to have so many emotions all at once? Sorrow, hope, anger, peacefulness, gratitude.
I woke up with heavy heart. I had a vivid dream about Sherry last night. Do you ever have a dream that seems so real you believe it really happened? In the dream I was sitting between Sherry and her sister on the couch. Sherry leaned in and whispered, “goodnight,” which I meant to mean “goodbye.” When her sister asked if she was okay, she just nodded, “yes.”
I just spoke to a reporter in Billings, Montana who told me 500 people showed up for the run today in Sidney, Sherry’s hometown.
500 PEOPLE. Think about that.
Here are some photos from the Sidney Herald website:
As I know is the case where many of you are it was freaking freezing here today. 5 degrees and snowing. Those conditions might scare off some, but not us. We were bad asses on a mission.
We had a large group show up in Boulder:
We did a moment of silence, then took off into the gray landscape:
A news reporter for Fox 31/Channel 2 News showed up. He enjoyed some quality time by the dumpster.
My dad, mom and the kids:
A lovely outtake of me. I really was glad to be out there despite what my face says (thanks, Dad):
When the run got started, news guy wanted to talk to me, so I got left behind. I ran out to catch the crowd but never did. They were doing a loop, so I turned around and headed the other way and found them. This actually gave me some meditative time to run alone. The sun poked out and made the snow glimmer like a million diamonds. It was perfectly and incredibly beautiful.
As always, it stinks to live in this crap hole:
We love you Sherry. I hope you felt it today.
How was your run today??
SUAR
Amazing. I feel so blessed to have been a part of this even though I've never met you and I've never known Sherry. Her story touches us all just a little bit and I was so saddened by it. This is just a really amazing thing you've done to give honor to her life. Baddies beware. We will take our goodness and light and we will prevail.
ReplyDeleteWe ran for Sherry. I have a short one minute video linked to my blog showing my young nephews (ages 4-7) running for Sherry. Check it out at www.runfortheboys.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteReally an incredible event, Beth. Or rather, multitude of simultaneous-ish events. Our family got so much out of this. It was mighty powerful. Peace be with you.
ReplyDeleteSo moved. YOU DID THIS! A lot of people came together to make it what it became, but you brought this to life. I'm sure Sherry was smiling down.
ReplyDeleteGoosebumps reading about your dream. You made the world a better, more connected place today. Proud to have been a part of it.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful!! I'm leaving for my Sherry run right now...I know, a little late. My husband went early and wore the bib. Beautiful way to honor her life and remember her AND bring awareness to this.
ReplyDeleteI said on another blog that "The international unity this story has created is amazing. It is sad that unity of this power and magnitude has come from sadness but fear must not be allowed to win and this is how we will beat it"
ReplyDeletePS I think Sherry was telling you she is at peace xx
Dog walk and run....and reflection.

It was awesome! And super cold. So cold icicles were forming on my gloves. I began at sunrise and put in 8 miles for Sherry. We went up at 9:00 for swim lessons and I saw a big group of runners at Rocky Mountain College all wearing the bib. It put a huge smile on my face and tears in my eyes. Thank you for letting us all be a part of this.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I so wanted to come up and run with your group but I thought the best things would be to manage my own running group in south Metro Denver. And we had a great time - over 20 ladies came despite the cold and ice and ran anywhere from 6-20+ miles with Sherry in our minds and hearts. I'l forward our group shot as soon as I can.
ReplyDeleteran in New Rochelle NY today. Our running club NewRo Runners had over 15 runners despite snowy/rainy weather in honor of Sherry!
ReplyDeleteI was so glad to be a small part of this huge amazing effort!
ReplyDeleteWe had a smaller, yet successful, group run in Park City, UT. Thank you for creating awareness around this and supporting safe roads and trails.
ReplyDeleteMy run was amazing. Like yours it was freezing, but I knew I had to be out there running with everyone else this morning! It was an amazing feeling to think about everyone else out there running for Sherry and her family. I talked my husband into coming and we took our dog, but she always comes. We ran fast and free through town. It was a wonderful start to our weekend. I felt so blessed to be apart of such a wonderful thing! Thank you for putting this together, what a success!!
ReplyDeleteDespite the freezing temp and snow today, it was a great run at Boulder Reservoir. Thank you for organizing this event to honor Sherry, who the majority of us never knew. As someone who was struck by her story, I feel glad to know I was part of something bigger than I to recognize her and help in the healing process for those close to her.
ReplyDeleteGreat job putting this on! I have pics to send to you too. I ran with a new friend, and she had her first experience ever rubbing in snow, which really shocked me b/c she is an ironwoman. She did 14, and I did 19 in crestwood, ky. I almost cried before we started thinking about it, how it really could happen to anyone.
ReplyDeleteWow. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe had a small group of members of our running group meet up to run along Lake Washington today. We saw TONS of runners out today, and some asked what we were doing since we had on the bibs. Posted a couple photos on the Run for Sherry FB page. I hope she felt it, too.
What an amazing turnout! I am so proud to have run for Sherry! Good can overcome evil.
ReplyDeleteI am welling up with pride and sentiment about this outpouring.
ReplyDeleteI had to stop looking at the pictures on Facebook because each one was better than the next and was taking a lot to control myself.
I feel so lucky to have had the pleasure to meet you and make friends with you and cannot tell you how happy I am for you and Sherry's family to have this go the way it did.
It was an amazing morning and an awesome run for Sherry today. It has been absolutely AWESOME to read so many stories about so many people out running to remember her. The running community is simply incredible. Sending lots of love and prayers your way today.
ReplyDeleteI ran and posted a pix of me on the treadmill (just my chest with my bib on) I tried to have my son take a full length pix BUT he couldn't get them to not be blurry..anyway i ran a 5k on the dreadmill, two reasons my husband was at work and it was too cold to take my 6 year old out on the road, and it was pretty icy too. Call me a whimp, fine. But all the same I ran in honor of sherry today! Thanks for sharing beth.
ReplyDeleteSaw several Sherry bibs at the Dallas Hot Chocolate 15K this morning!
ReplyDeleteI am running tomorrow for Sherry, I hope that is not offensive...but I was traveling today and can't get a run in : (
ReplyDeleteI ran for Sherry today. I was by my lonesome at the gym. Proud of all you that ran in the freezing temps. I was a wimp and opted for the warmth of the indoors!
ReplyDelete22 for Sherry in Belle Fourche, SD and 29 in Spearfish, SD...not bad considering only two of us knew Sherry and it was -5*. We are lucky to live in great communities. Thanks for the idea of such a special event. Sherry was smiling down on us all today.
ReplyDeleteMy run was fantastic! Did you notice I had my gloves off when I saw you (I had to put them on again later, but it was nice for a moment)?
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling that reporter would waylay you, but it was for a good cause. When I saw you on the dam, I was glad you got some you time, but also time to pass (hopefully) many of those who were doing the whole loop. I'm sorry I missed you at the end, but I had a 1 hr. 45 minuter on the schedule and just hoped you got some good family/friend time and maybe some Starbucks!
Thanks for organizing and for sharing what happened up in MT.
Wow. Your dream gave me chills. That was a message for you, dear. Know that.
ReplyDeleteI hesitated before doing my hill run yesterday because TODAY was the Run for Sherry, but I decided that Sherry deserved the hills a day early. No music, I just thought about pace (pant) hills (pant) and Sherry. Oddly, lots of people on the trail kept congratulating me. I must have looked WRECKED. I'll give her some more miles tomorrow, when my ass has recovered.
I know we've never met, but I'm proud of you.
We must have passed 30+ people thought our run today who were running for Sherry. It's pretty incredible that the movement really was all over the country today!
ReplyDeleteWe too had a COLD ass morning to run, but we did it! Great post - many POP (prayers on pavement) sent your way today. xoxo
ReplyDeletehttp://www.runwithjess.com/2012/02/last-night-brought-coldest-temps-of.html
I ran solo for 8 slow and cold miles today. I wanted to call my husband to pick me up half way through because of the bitter wind and the hills I just focused on Sherry and her family and all the other women that cannot be with those that they love or do what they love. Finished with my best long run pace ever fueled by the power of all the positive energy today!
ReplyDeleteRan in Dallas today at the Hot Chocolate run for Sherry today! It was freezing in temperature but warmed by the spirit of Sherry and everyone running for her. What a wonderful tribute to her life, Beth. Look at how much good there is in the world - we can outrun the bad. Peace to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI want to run long for sherry, so that will be tomorrow...but today she was with me for all of the 5K race I ran side by side with my husband
ReplyDeletehttp://www.runtothefinish.com/2012/02/run-for-sherry.html
Did a solo run last night in honor of Sherry and felt extra strong--maybe she pushed me along?
ReplyDeleteI chose to run alone this morning. I wanted to feel reflective, intentional with my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI feel incredibly blessed to be a part of our running community.
We show up. We stand for one another.
I wrote something on my blog about the run.
http://run4kelly.blogspot.com/2012/02/running-for-sherry-arnold.html
Courage, strength, grace.
I ran for Sherry in Illinois. Great to be a part of this. I can't imagine that she could not feel the love.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are giving Sherry and everyone in the world a great big hug.....hope you felt it giving you one back. Just beautiful. Just like Sherry.
ReplyDeleteI ran by myself, but it gave me to time to reflect and honor Sherry. Tomorrow we have a 12 mile run on the books for Sherry too.
ReplyDeleteWhen you dream of a loved one they are visiting you in your dreams. Passed loved ones are always around us but we dont see them. So they come in our dreams. Those dreams are bittersweet. I love when my passed loved ones visit but I always wake up so sad. Sherry was letting you know she is okay. I ran here in Chicago for her today. She has changed me by making me more aware of my surroundings and being more careful.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend and I did our long run this morning in honor of Sherry. It was 0 degrees out with below zero windchill - but I was determined to get some miles in outside for Sherry today. We did a lot of reflecting on our run and it was so wonderful to know that we were a small part of such a large movement for Sherry. I have never met you Beth, but I am so proud of you for doing this running event in honor of Sherry and bringing so many people together! Prayers with you and all of your family!
ReplyDelete500 in her hometown is amazing!! I can't tell you how many people knew about this run today and are not even runners. We had a group of about 20 today and I was so proud to be part of such a great group running for her and her family. I know she's looking down and smiling big! She is "okay".
ReplyDeleteHead wind was brutal in Houston (felt like 30 deg F); however, the sun came out and it was an awesome 12 miler.
ReplyDeleteThanks for organizing
I ran for Sherry today with the goal to push myself and PR my 5 mile route. Started out great with my running partner - my dog! Then I realized I had left my Sherry race bib laying on the table at home. Too far out to turn around I just kept going. Halfway and I had improved my time by 2 minutes....but I had a shoelace with an extra long loop and thought "I should stop and fix that". I didn't...and half a mile later I found myself getting up close and personal with cold, hard pavement. I hurt all over when I got up and started running again. I wanted to quit. And then I remembered why I was running today...that Sherry and many others like her CAN NOT run. With a humble heart I completed my run - offering up my pain for Sherry. AND, I did better my time by a whole minute...someone had to be helping me today! God Bless you and your family :)
ReplyDeleteRan for Sherry this morning in Albany, Oregon. Completed 5.5 miles while the fog was lifting and the sun was coming up.
ReplyDeleteRan for Sherry this morning in Albany, Oregon. Completed 5.5 miles while the fog was lifting and the sun was coming up.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason the picture of the dog wearing the bib got the tears started and they never stopped after that. I ran for Sherry today. I wasn't supposed to run alone, but it ended up that way and I'm actually glad it did. Had lots of time to reflect and be grateful. Thanks so much for organizing this. I too hope Sherry felt the love.
ReplyDeleteSeeing all the fb posts, blogs, and tweets with Sherry's bib has reminded me all day of candles being lit in the darknesses. I hope you and your family felt surrounded by all the love being directed towards Sherry and yourselves.
ReplyDeleteWay below zero with the wind-chill in Wisconsin today. 300 people came out to run for Sherry. Nothing was going to stop us.
ReplyDeletehusband ran and i biked! I think sherry is looking from above with JOY. Praying for you all still. thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteLC and KC
whoops, i meant JC not KC.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful that so many people came out for the run. I ran yesterday with my dad in her honor.
ReplyDeletehttp://mcmmamaruns.com/2012/02/11/run-for-sherry/
I felt so honored and blessed to be out the resevior with you and your family today. But I was a bit nervous as this would be my first run outside since last July. We started and I quickly found that my breathing would not settle. But then I thought of what you had said, that Sherry liked to walk as well as run. So I took the time where needed to reset my breathing, thinking of her, walking with her on my mind. I finished the whole loop, it felt great. I didn't know Sherry, but there is no doubt that was with me on this run and that she will continue to be with me as I run. Thank you so very much for letting us all be a part of this still very raw time for you and Sherry's family, friends and community. God Bless! P.S. You did GREAT!!
ReplyDeleteI ran for Sherry by myself this morning in Lawrence, KS. I've never met you or Sherry, but I felt connected to you both. And knowing so many people were running at the same time helped me get through the toughest part of my run. Thank you so much for organizing this, and for your vulnerability and honesty as you work through your grief.
ReplyDeleteRan the Heart and Sole in Longview Washington in Sherry's honor and thought about a person i never met and who was taken from this earth too early.
ReplyDelete5k in the rain with my running buddies...I feel honor to have been a part of this. I will never forget Sherry. I hope she felt every steps that were taken in her honor
ReplyDeletethis is my post

I ran for Sherry, on my own, in my new town, St. Louis, MO. It was cold, and I've been sick all week, but all I could think about was how lucky I was to be able to go out and run those 8 miles. Life is too short, and though I never knew her, I am inspired by Sherry.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, three of us go together at 6am and ran about 6.5 miles. We never looked at our watches or checked the time. It was the most beautiful run I have been on in a long time. Sherry's story has put a fear in my that is hard to leave behind on long solo runs, today I wanted to get back to the joy and peace that comes only from the road and I got that, it was amazing. This tragedy has brought the running community together in such an amazing way.
ReplyDeleteI ran for Sherry. I ran 4 miles around my neighborhood. Despite the drizzle, I still did it. The sun came out just as I ended my run. I knew Sherry was looking down at all of us!
ReplyDeleteThis is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteI ran 10 miles for Sherry today. :)
Amazing dream. I ran a 10k for Sherry. I have cried every time it has come on the news and I never knew her so I can't imagine how hard this has been for you and her family.
ReplyDeleteAwesome...lots of snow but it felt so great to do it. Thanks for organizing this event. It was inspirational for me.
ReplyDeleteSo amazing! The running community is phenomenal! I had tears looking at the pics of Sherry's community-it was obvious she was a presence there and will be dearly missed. Thinking of you and your family during this time.
ReplyDeleteWell, I only added a mere "2" to the number, but I am grateful I had time to reflect. Thank you for putting this together. I blogged about it http://runningonstilts.blogspot.com/2012/02/virtual-run-for-sherry-arnold.html
ReplyDeleteMine was a hard three miles, but I did it, and thought of Sherry and her family often all throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteI pinned my bib on and took off on my usual course through a retirement neighborhood by my house. As I was running, a woman who was out walking with her husband (?) pointed and said, "hey, it's Sherry". I was smiling from ear to ear while trying not to cry at the same time. You have done a wonderful thing with this virtual run. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us.
ReplyDelete16 of us + a four legged friend ran a collective 118 miles for Sherry today. It was a cold 10 degrees (felt like -5) in Milwaukee, but we did it for her!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I did just over 5 miles this afternoon while the snow was lightly falling. Will email you a photo soon. Happy to have been a part of it.
ReplyDeleteI did my 20 miler on the treadmill today with Sherry's picture taped to the front. I don't have a picture to share because no one is at home to take one. I had to rein in my emotions the first mile or I was not going to finish....this was a beautiful thing you organized today, Sherry would be proud.
ReplyDeleteDid a run by myself at nite in the cold and wind...I was debating about running today b/c I've been a lazy slug ever since coming off a bad injury. But I thought of Sherry and everyone out there running for her, and how you've talked of her love of running, and kicked me up off the couch! Did my first decent run since my injury, first run since I turned 40, and I felt energized the entire way. I think it was the energy of all runners coming together for one amazing woman!!
ReplyDeleteRan today in Arlington, VA. Cold, windy and we had a few flurries, but it was a great run regardless. I hope all of Sherry's family finds peace.
ReplyDeleteMy running buddy and I ran for Sherry. And as I sit here reading all of these comments, I am brought to tears. Sherry is someone that I will think about often. Peace be with you and all of her family.
ReplyDeleteWe did a little run today for Sherry.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible thing you did for Sherry. I'm currently on the injured list, but I've been seeing twitter and blog posts all day from people running for Sherry. She's touched so many peoples lives. My thoughts are with you, your family and everyone who was able to run in her memory!
ReplyDeleteRan for Sherry today....been following this story since the beginning. My heart breaks for her loved ones, and overflows with pride for the running community. Blessings to us all for coming together in such a meaningful way. Sherry you were clearly an amazing, unifying, teaching woman.
ReplyDeleteI ran a 5K in honor of Sherry and your family today. I hope you all felt the love that was flowing your way today! http://www.blogher.com/running-cause-0
ReplyDeleteWhen I lost a friend of mine I had dreams like that. They were comforting as I sat and talked with him. I hope you find comfort in your dreams with Sherry. Today I ran 3 miles with my puppy. It was chilly and the trail was empty. It was a nice run to think and reflect. Thank you for putting this together!
ReplyDeleteI am had a smile from ear to ear when I saw my shoe in the circle at the top of your blog. The group that came together this morning in McAllen for Sherry were filled with great emotion, strength and hope. I believe that while none of us in the group had ever met Sherry, we certainly had a little bit of her in us this morning. God Bless.
ReplyDeleteI put together a little video of the run this morning:
http://youtu.be/GOdCHSyh6nA
Our whole team ran today for sherry. It was a rainy day in Spokane but that didn't stop us.
ReplyDeletehttp://fitnessmouse.blogspot.com/
To be honest, it was hard. 12 miles inside on the treadmill isn't easy. And, especially when I was getting started, I was really emotional thinking about Sherry. I wore my bib on my back and had a few people ask who she was. I was so thankful for the opportunity to spread the news about this memorial.
ReplyDeleteI ran 8 miles in Idaho Falls for Sherry. I felt honored to be able to do so. My husband's family lives in Sidney, and Sherry taught my husband's half-brother. They have the kindest things to say about her. Thank you for organizing this. The world feels like a better place today because of it.
ReplyDeleteFour of us ran for Sherry in Grand Junction, Colorado.

ReplyDeleteI ran 4.25 for Sherry today. Emotions ranged from anger, to sadness, to peace, and finally to a feeling of being truly blessed to simply be able to run.
ReplyDeleteThank you for putting this run together today. I'll be running with Sherry in my heart for a long time to come.
Ran 10km today for Sherri, it was a chilly minus 17, but we layered up and it wasn't so bad.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you, Sherri and the entire family.
We had a run here in Minot, ND. It was -7 degrees, but that didn't matter to anyone. It was great to see and reading all the posts is very inspiring. I feel lifted after completing 18 miles today. Sherry lifted the spirits of many runners nation wide. The running family has an angel watching us.

ReplyDeleteDid 12 miles for Sherry today in Bradford, Ontario...it was a cold one (-21 celcius with the windchill) but definitely worth it....My thoughts are with all of Sherry's family today.
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I donned "Run for Sherry" bibs this morning to run and cycle in Florida. This was especially meaningful to Marisa and I because like Sherry we are teachers, moms and runners. I hope her family can find peace in knowing so many support them during this difficult time.
ReplyDelete7.23 miles in Brookfield, CT in her honor - may she rest in peace, prayers to all of her family...
ReplyDeleteI hopped on a hotel treadmill to remember Sherry. http://gymclassdropout.blogspot.com/2012/02/virtual-run-for-sherry.html
ReplyDeleteWe couldn't join your group at 9 but started at 8:30. Eben ran with me and that almost never happens! It was peaceful. All I had to do was look at my bib and think "you are here" to Sherry. What a beautiful, sad dream you had, Beth. The light definitely shone today.
ReplyDeleteI ran a wonderful 15 miles today, carrying wishes for peace and healing for Sherry's family and friends. There were moments my mind wandered (as always), moments I thought of Sherry and the connection we all have to her as runners, and moments I was simply grateful to be able to be out and running with the pavement beneath my feet. THANK YOU BETH for facilitating a worldwide connection between so many of us today. The 'good guys' most definitely won today!
ReplyDeleteI ran for Sherry today in Florida. You always put out a positive message, and I would like to believe that with all the people involved that Sherry felt the love.
ReplyDeleteI was not able to print a bib but I thought of Sherry the entire time. I plan on keeping her in my thoughts on my runs going forward. I am so sorry that this run even had to happen. Reading this post gave me chills and tears. Even though I don't know you physically and didn't know Sherry I know we are all connected in our love of running. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing that we all honored Sherry today. XOXO.
ReplyDeleteI felt emotional all morning. I felt emotional all afternoon. Seeing the pictures from Montana made me emotional again. What an incredible day. I want to do this EVERY year!
ReplyDeleteI ran 10 today in the snow and cold. It made me get a little teary eyed when I saw so many people in our running group with the Sherry bibs on! I thought of Sherry and your family often during my run. Her bib is now on my fridge!
ReplyDeleteI think taking a moment before every run is something I want to do every day now. To remember those who can't run "with" me and to be thankful that I can.
ReplyDeleteIt was an emotional day even for me how many miles removed from the reality that you and your extended family have been living. This was a wonderful idea and a perfect tribute to Sherry. And Beth, I am sure that she felt all the love pouring back to her. Some many people will hold her in their hearts. Many hugs to you and yours.
My family and I walked and ran for Sherry today in Camas, Wash. What a wonderful way to honor your cousin! Thanks for including us all.

I ran 11 miles today for Sherry. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Catherine, I had my baby grandson unexpectedly today and was unable to make the Boulder run. :( I will put in my miles tomorrow. It will be just as heartfelt, even though it's late.
ReplyDeleteWe ran for Sherry today ... it was just us ... my daughter ... my dog and I ... we spoke about Sherry ... running ... safety and life ... may happiness and love be with you and all the runners and non-runners out there!

Loved running for Sherry today, here is the recap from our group: http://momswimbikerun.blogspot.com/2012/02/virtual-5k-for-sherry-arnold.html
ReplyDeleteTodays run was cold, windy (14 degrees here which was probably warm compared to your run). Im not going to lie, I thought about turning around and heading to the treadmill. But with the memory of Sherry, I kept going. At my turn around point I kept thinking about running back to my kids, my husband. What we would do the rest of the day. And I thought those were probably her thoughts too. I hope her family finds peace in knowing she will not be forgotten. Today was like "take back the run" for Sherry. May she RIP
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for doing this... I didn't know Sherry, but running for her today was amazing.. http://barefootinclined.blogspot.com/2012/02/winter-run-for-sherry.html
ReplyDeleteYou started such a positive ripple effect of compassion and thoughtfulness today. I walked in honor of Sherry this morning, while my running group ran. Tomorrow I will run 20 miles with both you and Sherry on my mind. You did a truly wonderful thing!
ReplyDeleteI printed my bib and wasn't sure who else would be wearing one for the Frozen Feat this morning. With about 400 registrants I saw quite a few and we thought of Sherry through the windy -5 degree 5K/10K race. So glad to be a part of it!

ReplyDeleteAmazing! I am so thrilled by how many amazing people ran for Sherry and rest of your family today. I got out and ran 2.5 miles after work today with Sherry in mind.
ReplyDeleteI've never met you or your family, but I just recently found your blog, and I too printed out a bib and ran for Sherry today.
ReplyDeleteI also want to thank you for sharing the dream that you had. Very powerful.
Continued prayers go out to you and your family.
I skied and ran in Bozeman (MT) for Sherry today, and saw bibs both on the ski hill and in town...
ReplyDeleteJust a thought, would you put the image of the bib on a tech tee and sell them to support Sherry's kids? I would definitely get one, and would think that others might like to keep this momentum, mindfulness, and remembrance going.
We had 487 @Sidney High School at 9am this morning; we altogether about 570 people including our teams that were out of town competing walking that registered with the school. We can not ever thank you enough for coming up with this and allowing the world to help us celebrate Sherry; I encourage everyone to look at the photos on sidneyherald.com and watch the video; you will see how much your kindness helps our community and the family. Words can not express how grateful we are to the world for the outpouring of love we have felt over the last month. Thank you all Penny Filler.
ReplyDeleteWe ran our long run for you and the rest of your family today. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of her legacy!
ReplyDeleteI ran for Sherry today. So happy I could bring positive energy to all those who loved her!
ReplyDeletehttp://beautifulendlesssky.blogspot.com/2012/02/today-i-participated-in-virtual-run.html
It was one hour past dark in Helena when I ran (first time in 1.5 years because of two injured knees. I ran the distance without seeing another person on foot. How many times Sherry had done the same, I thought. She gave endlessly to her community and her family. What a role model!
ReplyDeleteWe ran for Sherry this morning. Thank you for hosting and giving us all something we felt we could do for Sherry and all her family and friends. Thinking of you all today.
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful day in the Willamette Valley (Oregon). We enjoyed the time outside and thought of you and yours often. So glad that you were able to pull together such a wonderful day of thought for your cousin...kudos!
ReplyDeleteI love scrolling through the blog feed and seeing SO MANY posts dedicated to Sherry.
ReplyDeleteJust know that YOU and your family were in my thoughts yesterday when I ran.
You do live in a crap hole too. Poor thing ;) (so beautiful there!)
シェリーの追悼をしながら今日、東京郊外の赤羽ハーフマラソンで走りました (Ran in Sherry's memory today at the Akabane 1/2 Marathon just outside of Tokyo Japan)。
ReplyDeleteI ran 8 miles in Santa Fe, NM in honor of Sherry. I was moved by the idea of running for someone who loved the sport and who was unfairly taken from her family and friends. It hits home when you realize how vulnerable we all are out there on the roads. This outpouring of love and support from friends and strangers shows how strong the running community is.
ReplyDeleteRan 8 miles in snowy Lincolnshire today for Sherry, her family and friends, and you. Trying to get the photo onto your FB page. Love and hugs, Petra
ReplyDeleteWow, so amazing! I love the support in the running community. This is so inspirational and a testament to how special Sherry is. I will be running this today even though it's a little late.
ReplyDeleteRan with Sherry on my mind (along with the disappeareds here) during my run yesterday. It wasn't as warm as it usually is since a norte seems to be blowing through. Still shorts and sleeveless. Felt sorry for all you northerners. :) Amazing to see everyone across the world doing this. From Mexico.
ReplyDeleteMy husband & I did 5 miles in Singapore this morning (Corresponding to the evening of Feb. 11 in Montana). Blogged about it here:

Beth, thanks for organizing.
Two wrestling (if you know anything about wrestling, it's a dusk to dawn event) mom's (also runners) in Michigan--didn't print a bib, but had thoughts of Sherry as we walked (wanting to run) the upper track looking down at our wrestling boys. Thinking of how lucky we are and how life can change in an instant and how we need to live every minute. We hope this event offered closure and peace to you and your family. The world is full of GOOD, we can not forget this!
ReplyDeleteGlad to have been part of this event too. Well done, Beth. http://petergroves.blogspot.com/2012/02/running-blue.html
ReplyDeleteWanted you to know that I ran 4 at our local ymca- really cold- and my running girls.were.out of town or sick. But we. All thought of sherry and you and your families. Everyone has been in my thoughts and prayers. Carol-wv
ReplyDeleteWalla Walla, Washington ran yesterday.
ReplyDeleteRest in Peace
All these photos made me cry! This run is such a beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteI ran Saturday in fresh snow in Rochester NY. I ran on the trails behind my parents house and had time in the peace and quiet to really think about why we all run and about Sherry's story. runningisalife.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI ran 2 hrs solo yesterday...it was a tough run but every step I ran was for sherry.
ReplyDeleteI ran. And a couple other women from my 5k. And we enlightened a couple other people who hadn't known about Sherry until they saw our bib during the race. At least one will be printing the bib and running today.

It was peaceful, and my thoughts were filled with Sherry and your family. I thought of all of the lady runners out there such as myself, and thought about how strong we all are. We will not be broken and we will not be afraid. I pray that Sherry's family will now have some closure and that we all remember her every time we run.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a testament to the running community and how runners can come together and unite. It's sad that it takes something like this to happen, but it's inspiring at the same time.
ReplyDeleteShane and I ran for Sherry.
ReplyDeleteBetween 40and 50 runners showed up at the football field in Glendive Montana to run in minus 10 degree temps for Sherry. I didn't hear anyone complaining about the cold. Glendive is 50 miles from Sidney and what happened to her hits close to home. Our hearts go out to her family and this event let us feel like we could do something to show our support. Thank you for organizing it!
ReplyDeleteSherry and all of her family and loved ones were on my mind and in my heart as I ran 22 cold snowy miles yesterday. I am grateful to be a part of this amazing movement to heal, to run strong and stand up for goodness. Your posts - this one and all of the others you have written since Sherry's disappearance - have opened my eyes and my heart to so much. Thank you for sharing and for allowing all of us to participate in this incredible fight for goodness and healing. Peace and Love.
ReplyDeleteSo fantastic the energy this took on. I had a beautiful trail run w/ friends and saw many Sherry bibs out there. Love it and love the strength of the movement.
ReplyDeleteI walked for Sherry. I pray for your family and that you are able to bring her home soon.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless.
I had to be in Boston for a convention on Sat so I crammed every available space in my carry on with my running gear. I ran in a light snow to the Boston Commons very early in the morning. The empty streets gave me time to reflect on Sherry and to be thankful for the beautiful day I was given for my small part of this incredible event. Peace to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures! 500 people, wow! What an impact she had on so many people! I thought of Sherry many times while on my run yesterday. So moving, i wonder how many thousands of people ran for her yesterday! Just amazing
ReplyDeleteRan yesterday in northern CA and thought about Sherry the whole time. So glad to be part of this amazing event you started. Much love to her family.
ReplyDeleteI ran 5K for Sherry yesterday. My sincere condolences to her loved ones.
ReplyDeleteMy longest run ever was for Sherry. I wish only blessing for all those who love her!
ReplyDeleteI posted my picture on the facebook page~
ReplyDeleteI've been injured for about 8 weeks. I did 2 miles for Sherry Saturday morning. It was my longest run in 2 months! I also added her name to my running for 2 Bandana, So I will always be running for Sherry!

ReplyDeleteI wore my SUAR shirt when I headed to my running club and saw a sea of blue bibs alongside the running numbers (worn for our monthly handicap race). So many people wanted to talk to me about why we ran for Sherry and I felt honoured being able to share your family story all these miles away. Much love...
ReplyDeleteLeanne (oz)
We ran for Sherry in Portland, Oregon downtown on the Waterfront. We saw a lot of bibs for Sherry. Everyone said things as they passed, her memory is alive.
ReplyDeleteI ran for Sherry today, I'm sorry I was late. I blogged about it here:

Crazy how a virtual run can have such an impact. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy recap: http://www.bananabuzzbomb.com
I ran today, Sunday February 12. 18 solo cold KM, but I knew I wasn't alone. Thank you for this.
ReplyDeleteSo many people asked what our special bibs were and I felt blessed to have a chance to tell others about this special woman that I never got to meet. We ran remembering Sherry yesterday!

Hugs & Peace!
I was humbled to be able to run for Sherry Arnold. Check out my blog to find photos. I had to do some trampoline running (yep, a little strange).
ReplyDeletePlease know that your family is in my thoughts.
We ran for Sherry in Calgary saturday at 1pm. It was a damncold day for a half marathon, but we did it! And we will do it again in 2 weeks in Edmonton. And then a week later after that in Red Deer! Many runners asked us during the HypoHalf who Sherry was. A few others run by us with a bib on too!! Its nice to see our worldwide running community is small. And caring. https://twitter.com/#!/crantina/status/168420656541745152/photo/1
ReplyDeleteMore pics and blog to come...
ReplyDeleteSo honored to have been able to run for Sherry on Saturday! Thank you for organizing this virtual run.

We ran 11 miles for Sherry on Saturday morning. I'm so glad we could be a part of this tribute. See our photo at http://www.runwithtito.com.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't run yesterday, but I did 5.25 miles today for Sherry, thinking and praying all the way.
ReplyDeletewow, what an amazing day. I ran for Sherry in the snow and ice and cold, and I thought of her and embraced my run.
ReplyDeleteI ran with 2 friends in the cold and single digit windchill in Illinois and we wouldn't have missed it for anything. We had a moment of silence and prayed for your family during our run. I truly believe your dream was Sherry telling you she is ok. I lost my Dad and had a similiar experience. They want those of us who mourn for them to know they are in a good place...a great place. Take Care, Jennifer - Highland, IL
ReplyDeleteHow awesome! This tragedy has been on my mind since the first day I read about it. Our love, thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and students. I know Sherry is smiling down at what you have put together in her honor. www.dashingdiva.net
ReplyDeleteIt is so wonderful that you put this together. What a great outpouring of love. Glad to have been a part of it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I have been injured, but did a 5k on the elliptical for her. I haven't posted the report yet! So great so many got involved!
ReplyDeleteThat first picture is so powerful, it instantly brought tears to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteSaturday's run was the first one I did for someone else. Whenever I thought I was tired, I reminded myself that Sherry would love to be running in 6 degree weather with 12mph winds on a Saturday morning.
When I get my recap written (with pics), I'll share the link.
Here in Spokane, WA, 7 women ran a quiet, peaceful run in honor of Sherry...such tragedy but thank you for turning it into an opportunity to bring awareness and closeness to the running community.~ Mirna
ReplyDeleteOn Saturday, I could think of a million reasons NOT to run: I was not scheduled to, I ran the day before, I had a long run scheduled for Sunday, It was freezing outside, I was tired, etc. With all of those excuses swirling around in my brain, I kept thinking of the ONE reason I could run: Sherry. I ran for her memory. I ran for her spirit. I ran for her courage. I ran for Sherry. I hope she felt me with her because she was certainly alongside me for seven great miles of gratitude. Thank you for sharing Sherry's life with us.
ReplyDeleteWow. There are no words.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if we'd be the only ones in San Diego running for Sherry at the San Dieguito Half Marathon, but I saw another couple with Sherry bibs and it gave me chills. Amazing.
We spoke of Sherry before the race and I told my friend Luke her story, since he was unaware. This was the hardest race I've ever done but with each monstrous hill I thought of Sherry, and let me tell you, it got me through.
So thankful to have been a part of this. We ran with friends on a foggy day. We ran into a group celebrating a birthday and were able to share Sherry's story with them.
