Sam and Ken are getting ready to run the Turkey Trot 10K. It is 19 degrees. They both have giblets, and they will both freeze them off. Ken has already had children, so I’m not so worried about his parts. But, Sam has some procreating to do at some point (hopefully many years down the line not ready to be a grandma SUAR although I might fit in better at the pool), so we need to make sure he salvages his.
Here’s hoping for a Sam PR, which would mean breaking 57:24.
I am trying not to think about the fact that I am not running. I don’t have a time for a 10K yet and PI (pre-injury) I was going to make this my PR. Maybe I will just run a PI PR in the pool (or a “piper”) and call it good. Running on land is so over rated anyway. The deep end is where life really happens (does that qualify as a “that’s what she said?”)
Whatever woes I have about not running today will be soothed by martinis and Sex and the City 2 tonight. The girls and I are heading to the mountains of Breckenridge for some good old fashioned estrogen bonding. Nothing says stress relief like time away with the girls.
We’ve been doing these getaways forever, like way before we had husbands or kids. These are my two best friends from graduate school, Julie and Erika. We spend our time brushing each others hair, giving backrubs (sorry guys reading, you might need a cold shower), lounging in the hot tub, consuming alcohol and playing support group. The friendship of women is incredible. It is a soft place to land. I’ll be forever grateful to these friends for seeing me through all of life’s hills and valleys. Every girl needs a best friend or two for when the going gets tough, but also to revel in the goods stuff.
Definition of a good friend: When you eat too many eggs at breakfast and have some rancid gas on the way home in the car, the kind that burns, and that friend doesn’t complain except for the occasional moan, and she sticks her head out the window only to get pummeled by gravel and salt from the highway. This may have happened last year. I owe her big.
If you didn’t read this blog a year ago (damn you), you can get a sneak peek at our getaway from back then. Bikini photos included. Click HERE. I’ll have ones from this weekend soon.
BTW, I was blown away by your comments on my running skirt giveaway post. I asked why you read my blog because I’m really trying to gauge what you come here for. Your feedback was encouraging and incredibly uplifting. So, thank you for that. From the bottom of my skinny ass (which some of you pointed out). And, one of you might have even written an Ode to SUAR. Best thing ever. Read it HERE.
You can still enter until 11/15.
Bottoms up,
SUAR
