I started running when we had to move in with my in-laws to get on our feet financially. It was definitely a huge stress-relief for me at that time, and I've never looked back. Still running two years later! (And no longer living with my in-laws.) My dad ran all through an eight week cancer treatment course (proton therapy) a few years ago too.

ReplyDeleteI started training for my first 5K after going through a particularly bad breakup in college and it really helped me feel better. The physical exertion helped me clear my mind and helped me feel much better. Love that running is so many things to so many people. Great post! :)
ReplyDeleteI identify with so many of these! Running truly was my road to recovery after losing my dad to a brief illness. I curled up in a ball for about 2 weeks, but when I finally got back out on the street I started healing. It's amazing how many things my mind can process on a run.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that 1, 2 and 16 are all the same for me, especially because I started running after my husband passed away. We were an active couple and when he died I just couldn't handle doing "our" things, without him. So I started running. I've since returned to "our" activities again, but there is nothing that helps me survive life like running does. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so true. I have recently escaped an abusive relationship (verbally and emotionally abusive for over a year, and when it finally turned physical, I packed a bag and left). Running has helped so much. It helped me deal with the emotional abuse, and when it turned physical it helped me remember I am tough and strong and worth something. It's amazing to me how things can be bothering me, and running helps me to come to terms with difficulties, and eventually let them go. I come back from a run refreshed and at peace. I am so glad I began running. It has saved me in so many ways.

On New Years Eve of the yeat I turned 50 I smoked my what I vowed would be my LAST cigerette. Onmy birthda, April 9th I ran my first Marathon. I traded one thing for another and have never looked back. Running has been there for me for all your reasons and SO MUCH more. I have made friends and saw parts of the country I may never had.
