PFTW (Pictures From The Week)

A happy and content life is made up of celebrating all the small moments, right? I had lots of those this week.

Can’t tell you how happy I am to be back on the trails?:

My toe after the nail finally came off. I wish I could tell you what the brown thing is between my first and second toes – chocolate toe jam?

The best new car ornament ever. Almost looks like the Ford Edge is offering an Ironman edition:

My first post-Ironman ride.  Is it weird that I love my bike more than my car?

What’s one random picture you took this week?

How often do you shave your legs in the winter? For me, it’s about every 3 weeks or so (gasp!) unless I’m going on vacation.

Any big Thanksgiving plans? We are staying put. I’ll take a long trail run that morning then my mom is doing most of the cooking. I am making Grandma Ball’s famous stuffing and pie.  Perfect day.

I need to think of a pie (not pumpkin) to make on T’giving. Thoughts?

  1. I am with you. I probably do the legs every three weeks in the winter, I would like to say it's because it isn't noticeable, but it is because I really don't care. With the arrival of the snow, how do you not slip and slide in the snow or on the ice?

    1. I don't go out when it's super icy. If it's snow packed that is fine. I have Yak Trax but I rarely use them. The trails have been snow packed, not icy so that's been okay. It can be tricky, but a lot of time the roads are pretty clear of ice.

  2. I love going shaveless for long periods during the winter. #benefitofwinter

  3. I shave every 2-3 days regardless of weather. I live in WA and wear long pants almost all year. Thanksgiving morning I am running a half marathon then heading tot he in-laws for dinner. A second half marathon on Black Friday morning. They should both be fulls but I am suffering through a nasty chest cold and doubt I could successfully complete all those miles with this much difficulty breathing.

  4. I shave every two to three days lest I feel like a wookie.

  5. Random picture? An apple pie I made from scratch. (That never happens.) I posted it on Instagram. Yay food porn!

  6. I never shave my legs, even in summer. Naturally almost hairless. It's like winning the lottery!

  7. Please see a doctor about your foot. Could be nothing, but with all your skin exposure, you need to get it checked. Melanoma is very common on feet for some reason. You are a badass!

  8. Yeah Ken. Go Broncos from a transplant in Ohio! Normally I go a couple weeks without a leg shave but have been doing a lot of swimming and don't want to scare the senior ladies, however they don't mind scaring me in the locker room!

  9. So jealous of the one above who doesn't have to shave...I shave everyday regardless of weather....it's a necessity :( It was sleeting while we ran yesterday, turned to snow for a bit, then right back to sleet....loved every minute of it

  10. I took a picture of a roseate spoonbill crane. Do you know how I know it's a roseate spoonbill crane? I posted a picture of it on instagram as a 'cool pink bird' and some jack ass responded with "no, idiot, its a roseate spoonbill crane!" I'm so glad an ornifreakinthologist decided to correct me publicly. God forbid I walk around the rest of my life saying 'cool pink bird', imagine the droves of people I would have offended.

  11. I shave about every 2-3 weeks. Pecan is my favorite pie. If you're sneaky, you can conveniently forget to put it out and then discover it the next day when the company is gone. . Unfortunately my family is on to me now....

  12. I shave when the hair gets to the braiding level.. It does grows slower as I age.
I like a sour cherry pie. The Cherry Stores either near Drake or Hwy 36 could use our business from the floods. Got some pie filling there- awesome!

  13. I make cranberry-apple pie. I don't like pumpkin and my sons are allergic to tree nuts, so pecan is out.

I shave every other day in the winter. I hate the feeling of hair on my legs!

  14. This is the easiest pie in the world and it tastes like chocolate ice cream:

    Ingredients
    • 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/3 cup baking cocoa
    • 1/3 cup milk
    • 1 (8 ounce) carton frozen whipped topping, thawed
    • 1 (9 inch) baked pie shell
    • Chocolate curls or chips (optional)

    Directions
    1. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Add cocoa alternately with milk; mix well. Fold in whipped topping. Pour into pie shell. Freeze for 8 hours or overnight. If desired, garnish with chocolate curls or chips. Serve directly from the freezer (pie does not need to be thawed to cut).

  15. I took a picture of a couple of headstones across the road from a small cemetery last weekend.

I tried to do no shave November. Made it to the 16th and just couldn't stand it anymore. I can't let the pits go more than a couple days. Legs, I usually do to the knee every 2 or 3 days, but I can't let my legs go more than a couple of weeks without needing to bush hog. lol

Doing Thanksgiving with a couple of friends since both our extended families live more than a day away from us.

Apple pie. Can't ever go wrong with apple pie. :)

  17. LOVE the new IM car! That is truly awesome. They should actually give you one of those things that like pizza delivery guys have on their cars. You've earned it.
It's definitely not odd to love your bike more then your car. I do.
    Happy Thanksgiving!!

  18. I love your car decoration! Congratulations again!
I shave my legs constantly. Italian girl that I am, I have 5:00 shadow on my shins at 1:30.
I took a random set of photos of my dog recently. Glad I did, he had to be put down on Thursday night, so we are sad, and not looking too forward to the holidays, but must perservere for the kid! Hopefully, we will have a new family member soon.

  20. Riding on the river bed here in So. California (where they PAVE river beds, by the way) I nearly ran over a HUGE Jerusalem Cricket. Never seen one? Google it. It was worth my stopping and taking a picture.

  21. I shave about once a week, on Fridays, if I think I might get lucky over the weekend. With my husband, I should clarify.

  22. Smitten Kitchen's Chocolate Pudding Pie. I make it every Thanksgiving because 5/6 of us like pumpkin pie, but I hate to see anybody go pie-less on Thanksgiving, so we have two.

  23. I shave about once a week now...oops!! But hey I get lazy in the winter. :) I am going to do two flywheel classes on Turkey Day! I was going to go run outside, but I cannot rely on the weather here right now. Plus, I just love the push that flywheel gives me! I found some new trails by my house and I am excited to go out and take them on! Of course, when it is light out!

  24. I'm really bad about shaving in the winter. Like really bad. When you live in work pants, sweats, and leggings, you forget that you need to take care of things!

Thats great you get to stay put on Thanksgiving, I am looking forward to a holiday like that--someday. Although if the weather is crappy enough we decided we are getting a hotel room and doing a staycation and not seeing either family.

  25. I am making a chocolate caramel pecan pie this Thanksgiving. Then I am hiding it from my entire family and eating it all on my own!

  26. I shave about every 3 days in the winter. It just depends if I'm going to the gym or not and if I'm wearing shorts there. HA

  27. Upside down apple pecan pie...google it. It will change your life.

    1. Okay, I was scared after the "Jerusalem Cricket" google from above but I faced my fears and googled the upside down apple pecan pie. I think I am going to try to make this in a gluten, soy, dairy free version.

  28. I'm an every day shaver, for no particular reason. Sometimes I think I shave too often, actually. I just really like smooth legs.

My 20-month-old has been walking around saying, "smile!" for the past two days with her brother's camera, or anything that looks like a phone. I let her take a few selfies (Hey! I got red squiggles when I typed that! I guess spell check didn't get the new word memo.) this morning. They're the kind of pictures only a mother could love, though, I think.

I'm making a white chocolate, cranberry, pecan tart for Thanksgiving, unless I can't find my tart pan, in which case I'll be making a white chocolate, cranberry, pecan pie. Improvisation is my friend.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

  30. I took a picture of the cats looking out the front door at the squirrels eating the Halloween pumpkin.
I do shave my legs, b/c my skin gets so dry and I have to put lotion on them all the time in winter!
Thanksgiving this year -- don't ask. But I will get out for a run in the morning to prepare!
My fav Thanksgiving pie is Pear Cranberry Macadamia Nut pie -- YUM!

  31. How about a pecan pie with some vanilla bean icecream?

Wait ... we're supposed to shave our legs in the winter? WTF? When did that memo go out because I missed it.

Congrats to your parents!! So wonderful.
Sweet potato buttermilk pie -- I love the smitten kitchen version. It is so damn good. That or a pecan pie, but those can be terribly sweet.

  37. Apple pie.... with nuts and raisins, per my dad's request. :-) I, too, love the Ironman ornament on your car. Very cool! I shave about twice per week. I wear capri tights in CrossFit, so shaving for me is a must. We are off to warm Arizona for Thanksgiving/Hanukka! I'm excited to spend Hanukka with my Jewish family. Our 4 boys (my 2 and my 2 nephews) are going to have a blast together searching for their gifts. No wrapping for us, gift hide and seek instead. It's brilliant! Happy Happy to you and your fam!

  38. HI! Clicked over from Allie's blog! Personally I love apple pie. I shave my legs very infrequently until I gross myself out so much wearing workout capris that I finally take on the razor!
