Why It's Best to Never Be Behind Me

Pre-run breakfast:

There is something people tell you when you move to Colorado. But, I always deliberately forget to believe it or maybe I just don't want to.

The two snowiest months are March and April. That makes no sense. Doesn't Mother F&cking Nature realize that March and April are spring months? If you want to have snowy months, fine. But have them when it is supposed to snow, like in December and January.

So, when I was sitting around looking at the weather forecast on Tuesday and saw this, I just shook my head and screamed WTF??

Although meteorologists are notoriously wrong, they weren't this time. Yesterday looked like this.

And 15" later, the skies cleared and it looked like this.

And we spent the day doing this.

1,000 piece puzzles really suck. But in a weird way they are addictive. Kind of like reading Sky Mall on the airplane.

So...my outside run for today was not occurring for obvious reasons.

If you read this blog you know I really don't care for the treadmill Satan's Wheel. But, there is a time and a place. And today was that time and that place. I love a good view from my treadmill.

I can get easily distracted by counting how many strokes it takes swimmers to go from one end to the other (Hey guy in little itty bitty Speedo - 17 strokes is impressive and you have a very long, lithe, muscular body that glides. Not that I was looking that hard).

I will say that I felt kind of badly for the three women very close behind me doing yoga or TRX or something because the farts were flying and I had no control. I don't know if they were loud or not because I had my ear buds in. Oh well. That's just a side affect of running. Kind of like snot rockets and chafed nipples.

All of this to say...bring on the warm weather so I don't have to crop dust women doing yoga.

What's the weather like where you are?

What do you eat before a run? If it's a long run, I'll do a banana or toast or something. Shorter runs, usually not much.

  2. The snow in March and April is really just a cold rain. I snowshoed yesterday, after eating 8 chocolate chip cookies.

  3. On Long Island, close to 60* yesterday, today low 50s and damp and chilly. Ran in too much and sweat a lot and then was freezing on the way home from my friend's.

  5. I grew up in Longmont (live in Texas now!) and every time you post a picture of that YMCA, it brings me back to my competitive swimming years spent there! 10 years of swimming in that pool :)

  6. Spring break started today and it's cold and blustery and snowing. In that same storm stretch. I thought was going to be able to run outside later today but not with this wind. I'm having arguments with myself right now on whether to hit the treadmill at the college or skip my workout. Skipping is winning out so far.
If it's more than an hour workout, a banana and a Honey stinger gel or chews during if it's going to hit 1 1/2 hrs or more.

  7. I thought about you when I heard of the blizzard. 86 and clear in Hawaii Kai. We had a cold front last week and it was in the 60s.

I usually just have a gel before a long run - my stomach can't handle anything else. I carry water for anything over about 3 miles.

  8. I honestly did wonder if you might have gone out to run in that storm yesterday (I wouldn't have been surprised). The YMCA next door to me ended up closing at noon and before I got myself over there to use the treadmill. It was knee deep at our house so my exercise was shoveling and "running" down the block like a doofus in my boots/snowpants/jacket/goggles for fun. I'm trying to keep my eyes out for plowed bike paths/sidewalks or something to try to do an 11 mile run this weekend...not looking great with more snow forecast on Saturday.

  9. "So...my outside run for today was not occurring for obvious reasons." Nothing obvious there to me.
17 strokes is darned good! Was that every length, an average, or what? I'm sure in the soul crushing boredom of the treadmill you had all sorts of time for such calculations.

Weather is still warm and partly sunny, as in, almost shorts for me. Peanut butter and honey sandwich. I try to give myself an hour between eating and running.

  10. Coffee is my preworkout. Nothing else will do.

And now you know why I always run outside. And alone. 'Nuff said.

  11. Weather: mid-40's to mid-50's with scattered showers for days on end. Drying / warming trend starting next week, getting into the 60's.

Long run breakfast: Peanut butter toast, banana, mandarin orange, coffee.

Short (under 7 miles) afternoon pre-run snack: A few almonds and some dried mango... or maybe a banana or mandarin orange. If I'm dragging, I'll pop a few Clif Bloks before I head out the door.

  12. I love your mug--my favorite one has Chicago on it. The weather was rainy today so instead of splashing on the trails we hit the indoor track. Satan's wheel---lol... Oh and long run breakfasts usually consist of a couple of eggs in a tortia and a banana about an hour before with a big cup of coffee. On my running cruises, I found out my body does really well with a big breakfast before running as long as I eat at least an hour before.

  13. We got hit with another wintery blast up here in Canada as well yesterday (I know you are thinking, "so what else is new up there?), so running outside is a no-go this morning. I would rather swim with the "fishes" than run on Satan's Wheel anyday! Happy Easter!

  14. I'm one of those people who has to eat breakfast. Toast with peanut butter, banana and coffee. I'm good to go. Oh, and it's raining here. Just got off Satan's Wheel. Trying out my new shoes. Best to do that indoors in case I need to send them back.

  15. I'm in San Diego, (cry me a river), so the weather today is basically perfect. Low humidity, about 45 degrees this morning for my 8 mile run. Wore shorts, gloves and short-sleeved shirt. Now its about 78 degrees (sorry Keith, I don't know how to do the F/C math).

If the run is over 90 minutes and I have time (an hour before starting) I will have some toast and tea with lots of sugar. If I don't have time to wait I start running and take a gel every 30-40 minutes.

    Crop dusting=LOL!!!

  16. It got cold on us in Southeast Arkansas. Like low 60s.
    Well, I got whimpy.

  17. It's sunny and almost warm in OKC - My go-to meal before any race of any length is a PB and honey sandwich. Which I didn't have this morning and my race sucked.. live and learn! lol

  18. I am the devil. Today was 85 and sunny in St. Petersburg, FL. It was a lovely day at the beach!

Short runs I just make sure I had a snack of pretty much any variety about an hour before. Longer runs (over 5 miles) I try for an apple or two about 20 min before, and having gels or the honey stinger waffles or even sport beans for during. I hope the snow stops piling on for you - and doesn't leave too much mud behind when it leaves.

  20. Yes...here's what gets me. Even the people that are FROM here are shocked that it's snowing. It's MARCH. We have a history of this. Expect it. I fully expect a blizzard in March. I fully expect snow in April.

  21. Was in Breckenridge skiing last week during the blizzard, and loved it (from the East coast).
TMI time - my husband and I noticed we were very gasy while there and I had my first ever (and hopefully last!) "shart"! Seriously, could the altitude have something to do with it? Maybe that's why you've had issues before!

  22. I'm in Miami. We have two seasons hot and less hot. Right now we're warming up to hot ... with a side of super humid. Now about food. I have personally gotten into a bad habit of wanting to eat and then wait and then run or bike. It works fine for biking because I don't start till the sun comes up but it is a terrible plan for running. Terrible and I need to go back to just get up and go run.

  23. My husband and I have been married for about 7 yrs now. We were happily married with two kids, a boy and a girl. 3 months ago, I started to notice some strange behavior from him and a few weeks later I found out that my husband is seeing someone. He started coming home late from work, he hardly care about me or the kids anymore, Sometimes he goes out and doesn't even come back home for about 2-3 days. I did all I could to rectify this problem but all to no avail. I became very worried and needed help. As I was browsing through the internet one day, I came across a website that suggested that Dr Unity can help solve marital problems, restore broken relationships and so on. So, I felt I should give him a try. I contacted him and he did a spell for me. Three days later, my husband came to me and apologized for the wrongs he did and promise never to do it again. Ever since then, everything has returned back to normal. I and my family are living together happily again.. All thanks to Dr Unity . If you need a spell caster that can cast a spell that truly works, I suggest you contact him. He will not disappoint you. This is his E-mail: Unityspelltemple@gmail.com .

  24. My life became devastated when my husband sent me packing, after 8 years that we have been together. I was lost and helpless after trying so many ways to make my husband take me back. One day at work, i was absent minded not knowing that my boss was calling me, so he sat and asked me what its was all about i told him and he smiled and said that it was not a problem. I never understand what he meant by it wasn't a problem getting my husband back, he said he used a spell to get his wife back when she left him for another man and now they are together till date and at first i was shocked hearing such thing from my boss. He gave me an email address of the great spell caster who helped him get his wife back, i never believed this would work but i had no choice that to get in contact with the spell caster which i did, and he requested for my information and that of my husband to enable him cast the spell and i sent him the details, but after two days, my mom called me that my husband came pleading that he wants me back, i never believed it because it was just like a dream and i had to rush down to my mothers place and to my greatest surprise, my husband was kneeling before me pleading for forgiveness that he wants me and the kid back home, then i gave Happy a call regarding sudden change of my husband and he made it clear to me that my husband will love me till the end of the world, that he will never leave my sight. Now me and my husband is back together again and has started doing pleasant things he hasn't done before, he makes me happy and do what he is suppose to do as a man without nagging. Please if you need help of any kind, kindly contact Happy for help and you can reach him via email: happylovespell2@gmail.com

  25. Are you having a hard time searching for a way to get your ex partner back, look no further, this was how i got mine back you can get yours today. My husband and I have been through every top reason for divorce; financial struggles, bankruptcy, stressful jobs, becoming parents when we weren’t ready (neither one of us would give our kids back just the amount of stress is overwhelming) we fought ALL the time over anything and everything. I threatened divorce all the time. One day after a fight I said I was done and filling. He told me he wasn’t in love with me anymore. After a day or two of cooling off I realized that divorce is not what I wanted. No, our marriage was not healthy but we had so much going against us an neither one of us were trying. I begged for him to forgive me and that I didn’t mean it. He told me he loved me but wasn’t in love with me anymore. Those words hurt and I believed him.One day i was online for tutor, as i was browsing i saw a review about a spell caster who could solve my problem, i have heard about spell casting, and magic, i said i should give it a try i contacted the spell caster his name is Dr Ewan of {covenantsolutiontemple@gmail.com}, i contacted him and he told me not to worry that all he had to do for me is a love spell, he did it and told me that i should give my husband 48 hours and that he would realize him self, i waited anxiously and one the second day of casting the spell, he came to me and told me he was sorry for the wrong he did to me, he has agreed to send me to school and we are happy. Thank you Dr Ewan you are the best. If you have any marital problem, winning of lottery and many other problems you can contact him on his email, {COVENANTSOLUTIONTEMPLE@GMAIL.COM} or call his mobile number +2347052958531, he is a good and kind man.
