Something Smells Like B.O.

Look what came in the mail today - it is the bigger, bad-asser sister to the Hydraquiver pack I did a review on not long ago. This is the DOUBLE BAREL (DB). Thanks to Orange Mud for sending it to me.

IMAG2607

It just so happens I have a long (19 mile) run tomorrow (I usually do them on weekends, but will be out of town), so the DB will be coming along (I’ll let you know how I like it). The only complaint I have about this pack is that the part of the straps that go under my arms are getting a really, nice, strong scent of BO. Too bad this blog does not have a scratch ‘n sniff option. Someone should invent that. (Did you ever have those books when you were little? They were my favorites. I am glad my “Everyone Poops” book does not have a scratch ‘n sniff, however).

Mapping out long runs is tough. There are only so many routes and sometimes finding 20ish miles is not easy. I decided on an out and back for tomorrow’s run because that mentally sounded easier than one big 19 mile loop. That’s what I am tricking my brain to think anyway.

image

9.5 + 9.5 = 19, right? I am not thinking clearly. I was up much too late last night. Guess where I was?

IMAG2603

Cry me a river. It was Justin Timberlake. With Erika.

IMAG2595

It didn’t even START until 9:00 p.m. Usually, this is about the time that me and my 46 (almost 47) year old self are in bed, eating Dots/Hot Tamales/Mike ‘n Ikes and starting to doze off.

The concert wasn’t all that. I’m not a huge JT fan anyway, and for some reason the performance didn’t do much for me. I liked the dancing, but there was no huge screen, so even with good seats it was tough to see. Then I drove home in a snow storm and didn’t get into bed until 12:30 a.m.

Maybe lack of sleep is why I had a mishap today. I took Heidi out back where there is a creek that’s about 3 feet deep. It’s been frozen, but we’ve had some warm days (foreshadow). Heidi ran right across it and I…fell in. You can see where. It was up to my thighs and I couldn’t get out, I kept falling in. When I finally did get out (FMAO), I crossed over to get Heidi. I went down a bit and tried to cross back over. And yes. I fell in again. Brilliant. I still can’t feel my legs.

IMAG2605

By the way, Heidi has a new best friend. They ran 5 miles this week:

IMAG2592

Too bad this cute couple can’t make baby Heidis, but I think they are each missing some essential parts needed for puppy making.

One last thing – go HERE to Clair’s yoga/running-related blog where she does an interview with me about Ironman Florida (she was there!). She has some great questions.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When do you go to bed usually? I get in bed at about 9pm, usually asleep before 10pm. Unless it’s New Year’s Eve or a JT concert.
What’s the last concert you’ve seen? Before last night I think it was James Taylor at Red Rocks, which is probably one of the best places to see a concert in the world (here’s a picture from that concert):
  2. 8 of us braved the NC cold (24degrees is FREEZING here) and ran 4.5. Afterwards, drinking our customary beer at the shop our run group is based, we discussed our mishmash of BO. I believe "swamp-ass" is a medical term.
    My last concert was Elvis Costello. Can you say "AWESOME"?
    Bedtime is 10pm. Usually by Thursday, I'm in need of a nap after work.
  3. My last concert was The Zac Brown Band on New Years Eve. I don't care for country music and only went because all my friends were. It was fun, but probably would have been way more fun if I was into the music. I'm hoping to take my 8 year old daughter to Katy Perry in Sept. That will be her 1st concert.
    I go to bed around 11:30/midnight, but I fall asleep on the couch every night around 10:30 and hubby wakes me up when he's going up to bed.
  4. I saw Dave Mason in December in Napa. Still one of our greatest living guitarists. When I was in Paris in May, I saw Zucchero, one of the biggest stars in the world that no one in America has ever heard of. He'll be in San Francisco April 1. You bet I'm going! My favorite concert last year was Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
  5. Way to fall in the creek ;) I've fallen in a pool before!
  6. I can't wait for the review! I'm pretty impressed that you fell into a freezing cold creek twice. That takes a special kind of...special ;o)
  7. Last real concert was...uh...um... I think it was Brandi Carlile, but it's been a while and I'm not sure.
    Usually don't make it to bed before 11 or 12, but I'm trying to reign that in.
    I know most people think they're boring, but I like out and back runs. You don't have to try as hard to mentally break up the distance. You charge out a few miles (say 9.5), then get to turn around and run a whole new race back to the comfort of your house. Win!
  8. I wish I was in bed by 9PM. I usually am ready for bed by 9:30 but end up watching TV/surfing twitter & blogs until 10:30 or 11:00. No wonder why I have a hard time getting to work on time! It's something I've been meaning to improve.
  9. That is a new way to ice that I had never thought of.
  10. I cannot remember the last concert that I went to and there's probably a reason and it probably involves some sort of beverage with alcohol...I go to bed around 11ish give or take a few hours.
  11. I took my husband to see Celine Dion for his birthday in 2008. What a great performer! So many outfit changes, big screens, and a virtual duet with Andrea Bocelli. She also warmly greeted her fans as she left the performance.
    Unfortunately can't sleep before 11, and I'm usually up at 6. Constantly sleep deprived. One of my all time favorite things is crashing on the couch in the evening while the family is watching some TV program (although I don't think they appreciate my snoring or taking up space).
    Falling in the ice sounds miserable. Doesn't Heidi come when called?
    1. I saw Celine a few years ago too. Could not take my eyes off of her. She is a real performer and I like how much she interacts with her audience.
  12. I saw Justin Timberlake in Philadelphia in November!! It was AWESOME. I used to live in Boulder and I have tons of friends that were also at that concert last night. Small world! (But not really considering it's a huuuuge concert in a major city...but who cares).
    When I was training for a marathon and living in Boulder I once did a 20 mile loop run in Boulder, down Baseline Road, through Gunbarrel, and back. I'm feeling nostalgic looking at your route!! Have fun on your run!
  13. I love the mentality of the out-and-back vs. big loop. Sometimes I feel like the out-and-back is a good option, while other times I would much rather go for the loop. Either way, I have a pretty strong opinion about it once I choose a route. Sounds like you had fun? at the JT concert. The last concert I went to was Jack Johnson at the amphitheater here in Bend. Your Red Rocks amphitheater is GORGEOUS!
  14. My BFF and I went to the Seattle show and loved it! We were directly out from the stage and second to last row at the very top, so we were bummed about the lack of a big screen, he was a speck the entire night. But, we live his music and danced our butts off the entire time. We didn't get the tickets until 2 days before, so really we were just happy too be there.
  16. I basically turn into a pumpkin at 10 pm.
    My wife and I saw Keith Urban at Red Rocks about 10 years ago(!?!) and it was an incredible concert. What his albums don't really demonstrate is how much of an incredible musician he is. I mean it's all canned and perfect because it's been massaged and tweaked in the studio. But he absolutely shines live. And I'm not really a country music fan.
    (And sorry, I had to laugh at your double ice incident.)
    1. Agree. I'm not a big country fan either but Keith Urban is an accomplished guitarist, an excellent singer and a great songwriter. I'd pay to see him play live, as long as it's not at a huge venue where all his artistry would be lost in translation.
  17. New to your blog and loving it! I've been wondering about those hydroquiver packs as I CANNOT run with a water bottle in my hand and I have a hydration pack-only used it once, I just can't get used to sucking on that tube-y thing. Hope you're ok from your ice accident. I gasped out loud when I read it!
    When do you go to bed usually? my bedtime is a mess. I'm a professional dancer on a cruise ship so on show nights, rehearsal nights it's anywhere between 11pm and 4am. In between contracts (like right now) I've been ranging between 9pm and 3am. Waking times vary accordingly :)
    What’s the last concert you’ve seen? I'm jealous! I never go to concerts and I love them. I think the last one I've been to was Radiohead's In Rainbows tour in 2008, Redlands California (it was pretty awesome)
  18. Sorry, I may have laughed at you falling through the ice! Last concert I saw was Greenday with their American Idiot tour...aargh I can't believe that was nearly ten years ago! Where has the time gone?
  19. The last concert I went to was Kings of Leon. Awesome. Drank way too much.
    I like to go to bed at 8. Seriously. I love sleep.
  20. What a cute couple, Heidi and her friend! Bummer about the ditch incident, glad it was behind your house and not far away, would have been a brutal run/walk home being wet.
    Bedtime is around 9pm, but hubby up at 3:45 for work, so that kind of dictates the early time and that works for me since I'm always tired these days.
    Last concert was probably at Cheyenne for Brooks and Dunn. Venue not so good, but it was a great show. But I agree Red Rocks can't be topped. Have seen a range of acts, all excellent, but one that unexpectedly stands out was the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with special unannounced guest, John Denver. We had front row seats (back when there was open seating and that area was actually cheaper). I was not a John Denver fan per se, thought he was just OK. But man could he play the guitar and they were all having a ball. Being 5 feet or less made it quite the experience. Jimmy Buffett was also a great one, crowd participation at it's best! NEED to get to Red Rocks again! Thanks for making me think about these great concerts.
    Be careful on your run, slick out there!
  21. Clutch at the Boulder Theater. Can't wait till they are back again.
  22. WOW is Red Rocks beautiful! I think i remember seeing a musical festival happens there? my last concert was fun. and tegan and sara this past summer. I took a wrong turn and had to stop for a pee break, so I got home well after my 9:00 bedtime!
    Falling through that ice would have sent me through instant panic mode!
  23. Out and backs were easier for me because thinking I have X miles to go and X to go back was much easier than thinking I had an entire X mile loop!
  24. The last and BEST concert I saw was the English Beat. One word...AMAZING!!!! Lead singer, Dave Wakeling also played songs from his other band. General Public, and EVERYONE was up jumping and dancing, it was a blast!!! Anyone who likes New Wave, 80's music...the English Beat is a must see!!!
  25. Bon Jovi in October - rock on! I was training for my first marathon and had a dislocated bone in my foot that I wasn't supposed to put any weight on so I danced on one leg all night at the concert! Seriously, I didn't cheat. And the bone went back to its assigned seating in time for race day :)
  26. I missed the opening line at first and went right to your story above ... I was thinking "who is the douche bag she is taking on her run?" I'm an idiot, but I still found that funny.
    New to the blog and I love it (still working through your older posts!). I go to bed around 11:30 and up at 5:50 or so to hit the pavement. This morning was -5 w/ the wind chill. Fun as hell.
    I've never been to a concert. I'm a weirdo.
  27. Lived in Boulder from 94 - 97 and got to see Big Head Todd & The Monsters w/ The Samples, Pearl Jam, Phish and a few other small shows at Red Rocks during that time. Quite a place to see a show:) The last concert I went to was Dark Star Orchestra @ the Crystal Ballroom in Portland.
  28. The title of this post made me think of my yoga class this week where there was a person with horrible BO. Every downward dog was nauseating as his scent permeated the room. And of the parents with the new baby I saw in my clinic...one of them wasn't hip to the whole deodorant scene. Nothing better than being shut in a 8x8 exam room, no ventilation, and THAT.
    Oh I'm so with you about going to bed early. Can't they do concerts at noon?
  30. I am in bed around 8 or 8:30 . . . . As soon as my 4 year old goes to bed . . . . With a 4 am (sometimes earlier alarm to get my miles in), I'm beat by 7:30!!!!!
    My last (and only) concert was Creed . . .. Back in 98 or 99. . . . . Wow!
