Let Me Tell You Why It’s a Good Day

I started the morning in the best way possible – on the trails.

IMAG2836

For some reason I don't mind running hills so much when I’m on the trails. I think I am too distracted by bear poop and just trying to breathe and not die that I forget just how hard it is (okay, this shot below doesn’t make it look hard, but most of it is and I don’t care if you don’t believe me).

I was “supposed” to swim today (according to my training plan), but the thought of going inside to a chlorinated body of water with hair (some of it pubic, no doubt) and band aids in it didn’t really float my boat if you know what I mean. So, I opted for something that spoke to my spirit.

My spirit was further spoken to when I got home and somehow stumbled upon a Blog Topic Generator site. I love all generator sites, one my favorites being the stripper name generator (mine is Dementia Titties – what?- does that mean my breasts are confused and forgetful? That makes no sense unlike other stripper names that are completely sensical). Anyway, on the blog topic generator, you simply put in three nouns and it will generate titles for your upcoming blog posts.

For example, I entered “run”, “poop” and “shoes”. Here’s what I got:

image

I love the Internet for this very reason. It never occurred to me to write a post about what poop will be like in 100 years or to compare Miley Cyrus and running shoes. All I can think of is that both Miley and shoes have tongues.

And, one last thing that made my day. This email from reader Emily:

I read your blog almost every day, and “shut up and run” has become a regular part of my vocabulary when heading out the door for a hard/slow/fast/hilly/rainy/cold/hot workout.

I just broke up with my boyfriend of 5 years and have had trouble being motivated to keep running some days.  Today was one of those days, and I had a 4-mile interval on tap.  SO, long story short, I put you on my wrist, had several people ask what SUAR meant, crushed those intervals, and made it through the best run I have had in months!

SUAR

Of course I love this email because it gives me a big head, but I more love it because it is a PRIME example of why I chose to call this blog Shut Up and Run. It is the perfect kick in the ass that we all need sometimes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You have to try the blog topic generator and tell me what the funniest one you got.
If you don’t want to do that, what is your stripper name?
If you don’t want to do that, tell me what you had for breakfast (boring, but I do like to know because I am struggling for breakfast ideas these days).
SUAR
PS: Happy birthday to my beautiful mom who turns 75 today!
  5. Did you see this? You've made it ok for people to write about pooping themselves on the run! http://funnypostpartumladyn.net/2014/03/code-brown-at-mile-11.html
  6. I love that poop was one of the words in your generator. My running partner and I have a quick conversation before every early morning run about "the go"...as in, did you? We warn each other that routes may need to change according to what bathrooms are open!
  8. I think that name generator is obsessed with boobs, because apparently I'm joining the family. Blog generator gave me "How to solve the biggest problems with running." Sounds like I could totally make a go at that one! Happy birthday to your gorgeous momma!
  11. I've been loving trails lately. Trail pictures never look as steep as the actual trail. Our local trail goes by a cattle ranch, I've seen a few cows on the trail and their patties are quite large!
    Happy birthday to your mom from Kitty Baby ;)
  17. My stripper name is Kitty Buns, which I kinda like. Maybe I'll change my name... (True story: When I was MUCH younger and single I did a social experiment. I wanted to gauge a guy's reaction based on my occupation. Chemist (my REAL job)? The guy always - EVERY TIME - moved away. Exotic dancer (my NOT IN THIS LIFETIME job)? The guy always - EVERY TIME - moved closer.)(Incidentally, my friends always knew if I was truly interested by which answer I gave - I was waiting for the guy who would lean closer to the REAL me...I married a guy I worked with).
    I always eat the same thing for breakfast: Maple Brown Sugar oatmeal with walnuts, raisins, and wheat germ. I, too, would like to know what your mom eats because she looks FABULOUS!
    PS Emily, Good for you!! Way to SUAR!
  20. "How to solve the biggest problems with bacon." I'm not sure that's even a funny title...it might just be the answer to world peace. Really, if you can't solve a problem with bacon it probably can't be solved.
  21. Way to go Emily! BTW you are BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Congrats on defeating your run and moving forward with your life.
    For breakfast today, I had tofu and kale and some pancakes made with almond flour. I'm testing the whole vegan thing...and carbloading because I'M RUNNING MY FIRST ULTRA IN THE MORNING!!! AHHHHH. I need to go to sleep.
    xoxo, thanks for the laughs and inspiration!
  26. Thunder down under....
    I to find trail running much more spiritually fulfilling than swimming in a pool. As a former pool rat I now find it depressing to be in all that chlorine, though a nice mile ocean swim still really makes me happy
    Breakfast? I fail miserably at eating in the morning. Coffee is usually it, sometimes a smoothie before hitting the gym. Then about 11:00-11:30am I get hungry and eat. Unless I'm up earlier than normal (normal for me is about 8:30am - what? I work swing shift!) I'm not much of a breakfast eater. I know, I know....BAD.
  29. Cherry Swallow. Um. So bummed, because when I first opened your blog page on my phone, I saw the Heil path, and thought, "OMG! That looks awesome, and I can totally do that!" and THEN read your disclaimer about how it's much harder than that. Damn. Maybe next year. Your mom is beautiful. Hope she has a great birthday, and a fabulous 75th year.
  33. I like to find my stripper name the old-fashioned way: Name of your first pet + The street you grew up on. Mine, that way, is Jasmine Grand. I think I would use that before Honey Titties; sounds more high class.
    My favorite blog title generated was "Why We Love Chafe (And You Should, Too)!"
    I don't. I won't. But that doesn't mean I won't use the title...
  34. Blog topics I got. The history of thirsty and 7 things about feet your boss wants to know..
    I had peanut butter and jam (think you guys call it jelly) on toast with a cup of tea. Then a banana before my race.
    Gosh I wanna look that good at 75!! I hope she had a lovely birthday.
    Oh and stripper names is "tink swallows"
  35. A friend of mine (shameless plug) has started making energy bars, Nii Bars, and I had one this morning before my 8 mile run. Totally delicious, vegan and gluten free. It was great fuel. Made a nice change from my usual cereal.
    I really wonder how they come up with these names - mine is Kitty Baby!
    As far as breakfast, I had a 2-egg omelet with spinach, sun dried tomatoes and light cheddar wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla with strawberries on the side. Being pregnant and/or running long distances kicks butt b/c it allows me to eat a little more!
