My Revelation (CILF)

I'm going to admit something here. Something big and self-revealing. Something that I do to totally feed my ego and to make people like me.

I give out the full size candy bars at Halloween

Don't you remember when you were little and there was always that house that gave out the big bars? You and your friends would scheme how to go there more than once. You would, in hushed voices, tell all of your friends which house it was. You assumed the people giving out the full sized bars were really rich. You thought about them as it got closer and closer to Halloween wondering if they would do it again. When you sat to trade candy after trick or treating you would put the full sized bar off to the side. That was off limits and there were no amount of fun-sized bars that someone could trade you for your big full sized bar.

Last year I wanted to be the full size house. I had a coupon from Costco for the bars, so it didn't seem quite so indulgent. I was extremely satisfied to hear from my kids that while trick or treating they overheard kids making reference to our house. The house of the FSBs.

So in this particular day and age when I can't run and I need something to feel good about, I'm going with the full size bars. No, we are not rich. No we are not even that generous. Yes, I want to be liked by anonymous dressed up children. 'Nuf said. What candy do you give out at your house. Don't try to copy me.

Remember when I told you how hot it was at my half marathon a couple weeks ago? The one where I jacked up my foot? Well it was in the mid-80s while we were running. The aid stations ran out of water. There was not enough medical staff to take care of all the dehydrated runners. In fact, they ran out of water at the end of the race too. Lots of people complained especially because this particular race was very expensive ($80 for the half) and boasted about having hundreds of sponsors and amazing support along the way. Well, we all get an email today from the race director, explaining why the race started at 9:00 a.m, thereby making it that much hotter than if they started earlier (seriously, have you ever been to a race that started at 9:00 a.m.?). Because if it started earlier, he said, it would be hard to park in the dark (assuming you were going to get there at 5:00 a.m.). Lame, lame, lame. No word about not enough water and support.

On the bright side, they did enclose a picture of the runners and the course so I am going to use it to my advantage and post it here. It really is a beautiful course as you can see. I wish me and my fancy running dress (my running dress and I?) were in this picture. But I was somewhere in the back hobbling along, cussing. Mother f'n foot.

Hey, and check out my latest article on cold weather running.

  3. Props for giving out the big candy!!!

My mom has been giving out the full sized bars since I was a little girl. Kids would be lined outside my house! These days their quiet little street only gets roughly 10 kids, but she still gives out the big guys.

  4. I never give out the full size, not because I don't want to be the coolest house on the block, but because I have to eat what's leftover. I'm trying to lose weight, not gain it.

  5. I thought that was the picture of all the people running to your house this year to get their FSB!

I'm that jerk that gives out crappy candy because I don't want to worry about eating it before Halloween! So I buy the stuff that no one wants. Don't I sound awesome?

  7. Can I come Trick or Treat at your house??? :)

I am so going to be FSB House someday... when I actually live in a house.

I can't believe that they didn't apologize about the lack of H20. Unacceptable.

Off to read your new article...

  9. we give out otter pops :o) its like $5 for 100 of them and no one else does it, so the kids think its cool. We hand them out at room temp, then they gotta go home and freeze them.

when I was little my mom gave out quarters instead of candy. we always thought that was pretty cool too...seems expensive now that Im handing out my own candy though!

  10. I'm flying to your house for Halloween.

Problem with buying the full size bars is that I eat them before Halloween. At least with the little bars, I don't feel so bad ;)

  11. I used to love the house with the full size bars! We give out bags of animal crackers.

My friend and I ran an August 5K that started at 9:00. Dumbest thing EVER. It was WAY too hot. I am surprised they didn't offer an apology in the email. At least the picture was a nice bonus!

  13. I loved FSB houses! whooohooo! Um I give out no candy because no kids come to my house :( but I do buy for our childcare center at the college because they go dept to dept and trick or treat!
There was one house who gave out toothbrushes--I bet it was a dentist!
9am is way late for a start. Our local 1/2 starts at 8am in Aug and we complain every year but, the city doesn't want to pay overtime to the city employees to block roads--or thats the excuse they give us. I am doing a 1/2 in Nov and it starts at 9am but its in NOVEMBER! Oh yeah tell the race dir that the Myrtle Beach Marathon starts at 630am and we park fine in the dark....

  14. Trick or Treat! Like my costume? you know once you start FSB you can never stop. I look forward to being the old mean guy no kids stop at because all he gives out is candy corn.

  15. Sometimes it's nice just to be liked! And if you have to give away big candy bar, so be it.

  16. That is so funny about the FSBs!! I don't give out candy at halloween. I know, terrible. But I don't have kids and don't really like them!

  17. They held it late because of *parking*? wtf? who considers parking in the dark. Are you guys that much of idiots there that you can't possibly figure out how to drive in the dark. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I wonder if they get as many entrants next year.

big candy bars. you ARE rich :) Where were you when I was trick or treating?

  18. You are COOL!! I totally wish that I could be "That House" The kids will go nuts!!

I would say that the RAce Director should have offered a discount for a future race... Nothing?? SUCKY!

  20. Oh man, I'm going to come trick or treating at your place. I'll either be the slutty version of amelia earhart or the slutty roller derby girl. :p Maybe I'll do a costume change and come back a second time in hopes that you won't notice. :)

  22. I just went to costco myself and got a bunch of...wait for it....KING SIZED candy bars! I always wanted to be the house that the kids loved the most too! I actually can not wait to hand them out on halloween night!

  23. I give out indiv wrapped bubble gum. But we're never home - we always go to our friend's party. I usually read tarot cards there. So we leave it on the porch with a "please take one" sign that I'm sure the first 3 kids who arrive ignore.
