111 Push Ups–Done! (video)

It sounded like a good idea at the time. Now I know it was stupid. Asinine. Check out what went on at the Shut Up and Run Facebook page today (we have a lot of fun over there in case you want to join us).

Honestly, not sure what I was thinking. Although I got 573  likes, they don’t all count because the agreement was that you had to “share” the picture for it to be legit. So, in actuality, I had to do 111 pushups. Not all at the time same, not even all in the same hour or the same life time. Just at some point before I die. And I did all of them. Here are the last 10. Pure ugliness.

Yes, my form sucks. But, at least I gave birth to someone who has good form. I don’t get far enough to the ground, my butt sticks up, I groan and grunt and fart. Even so they still hurt.

Stay tuned tomorrow to see how many kegels I can do.

Are boot camp type workouts part of your routine? (you know – pushups, burpees, etc)

Are you a Cross Fitter? I’ve never tried it, but would LOVE to.

  1. What a great idea. Or not? It would be completely safe for me to post this.. as I only have about 2 readers following me.. Maybe I'll try it. ;0)
Way to go.. on doing all 111~

  2. Oh crap! I didn't read that closely enough...or maybe I just wasn't dumb enough to risk having to do 111 pushups. heehee. I would have only gotten 11 likes anyhow. Nice job getting them done!

  3. Can I ask why you felt the need to do this? Ugh. Even the newborns I see in my clinic hate "tummy time" aka baby push ups.

    1. Hahaha! I have no clue. I'm sure I hated tummy time when I was 2 months old too.

  6. I was a pseudo crossfitter. But I would skip any day that had burpees listed.

  7. You'll note I didn't add to your pain. I hope you appreciate that. I doubt I've done 100 push ups in any one YEAR of my life.
Trying to get better at doing core stuff. I should be down there now, but no, I was trying to filk a Police song on my blog. The things I do to avoid core workouts. Sheesh.
Not a cross fitter. Seems like a recipe for hurting yourself. Try for maximal effort in minimum time. Can you say guaranteed injury? Some of you can. That's good.

  8. I did not add to your pain either :) I like your blog too much to risk losing you (ha!)
Twice a week I do body weight workouts from http://www.makeyourbodywork.com Sometimes, they include lots of pushups- but since I never know exactly what I am going to get, I don't dread it as much!

  9. That's 101 more than I can do, kudos!

  10. Love CrossFit- try to get there twice a week. It was one of the factors that helped me shave a lot of time off of my last half marathon. That being said, I hate burpees, push ups and pull ups. Never fails that the day I go to CrossFit is the day at least one of these is part of the workout.

  13. OK you are the King (or Queen) that is a great idea, I might just steal it, but it would be easy for me, I don't even think I have 100 friends on facebook... Maybe I'll put in on my blog and say for each comment I'll do one... maybe I'll get a couple of comments then!!!

  14. I liked and shared the pic, so you're welcome :) I have a few hundred friends, but nothing like the numbers you have. Also, Facebook in its infinite wisdom only shows each post to a fraction of my friends, so they didn't all see it. So my friends started liking each others comments and saying I had to do pushups for those likes, too! Jerks. Still only amounted to about 40, so I survived. Cool idea, though.

  15. Better to fart doing pushups than just sitting around lazy and loading them up:

Have enjoyed your blog for a while, stumbled over the above picture, thought of your blog, and sure enough your most recent post makes mention of (to be expected?)...

  16. I love how Sam is smiling at the camera. You both did great!
Once in a while when it's too cold out I do a video with aerobics and weight training in it. I would love to try Crossfit, but I'm worried I'll be intimidated by the other people in the class. Maybe they have beginner Crossfit? The local community college is offering a new class called Tabata Intervals. It starts next week. I Googled it and it looks interesting, so I signed up.

    1. Tabata training is tough. Of course the first time I ever heard of it, my TRX instructor had us do the entire TRX class Tabata style. Was one of the hardest classes ever, felt great when I walked out of the gym:)

    2. WTG on the pushups! Nice Job! Beth, Jane and anyone else interested in CrossFit, definitely give it a try. Find a local box and get in there, they typically offer a free intro class and then have some sort of beginner/onramp/foundation classes to work you up to the full blow regular classes. That said each part of the WOD (workout of the day) can be scaled and should be as needed. I've been doing CrossFit since August and I regularly have to scale my workouts, I still have a lot to learn and improve on but it's made a big difference in my overall fitness and the people are great! Hope you try it and like it! Good luck! Tricia

  17. I tried CrossFit for a year and a half. I have exercise induced asthma so I was always the slowest and/or last to finish the workouts. But that was okay, I guess. What got me was a workout involving 150 pushups that gave me tendonitis in my right elbow and has kept me from playing tennis for over a year.

I suspect that you would do very well with CrossFit, but just be aware of your limitations and don't be afraid to scale. I pushed myself too far and now I'm suffering the consequences. Not being able to participate in your favorite activity truly sucks.

  18. You rock. This is why I read your blog.

  19. I liked but didn't share. Didn't want either of us to be in pain. I am curious about those 111 people who shared, how many (on average) pushups they had to do....

    Good job!

  20. Good job on the push ups but be careful of your arms since it looked like you were hyperextending.
I like a simple weight routine. Never tried crossfit but I tried another boot camp style workout. It wasn't for me. Give me running and weight machines anyday.

  21. I do boot camp three times a week as part of my routine. Once a week we do a HIIT workout that is killer - burns a ton of calories in a short amount of time.

  22. I do a boot camp class and a TRX circuit training class love both. Tried CrossFit for about5 or 6 classes. The first three were to learn proper form for all the standard CrossFit stuff, my first real class, the WOD was 7 minutes straight of burpees. Worst day of my life. I did 71, thought I might never breathe normally again.

  23. You are so dang cute!!!
I love push-ups and burpees (not love but do them!).
    Can't wait for another video!

  24. Way to go! My daughter's karate instructor always say: "A day without pushups is like a day without sunshine"

  25. Just wondering how your arms are feeling today.

  26. That is hilarious. Do your ribs hurt today? Because the one time I tried something similar, it felt like someone had hit me with a baseball bat repeatedly.

And, yes, you should try Crossfit. It's...interesting.

  27. I've been doing Crossfit since 2009. It is the best! I've never been stronger. Join the cult and give it a try.

  28. Ah it wasn't ugly at all!

I tend to do those kind of "circuit training" work outs. I haven't done crossfit. Debating on doing the boot camp at my gym but it's at 5:30 am. I think I'd have to have an IV of coffee.
