Fitness Clothes Delivered to Your Doorstep: PV Body Review

Do you like new running/yoga/fitness clothes? Uh, yeah. Duh. I might have a problem.

Do you like surprises? Just the fun kind. Not the kind where a stranger is waiting for me when I get out of the shower.

Do you like a good deal? Yes. Once or twice I have bought something I don’t need or ever use because it was on sale (1,000 pack of condoms).

Do you have a bit of extra money hanging around? Do nickels I find on the street while I run count?

If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, you might be interested in PV Body. Have you heard of this trend where you pay a certain amount of money per month and you receive a box in the mail of something – cosmetics, clothing, enemas, bath salts – whatever?  PV Body is one of these services, only it’s geared towards fitness buffs who like to look good and to do it inexpensively and conveniently.

Basically, you pay $49.95 per month (includes shipping) and you get two pieces of brand name fitness apparel delivered to your door (one top and one bottom). PV Body asked me to review what a subscriber would get in a typical month. I was sent a running top (also could be used for yoga) from MPG Activewear (retails online for $50).  LOVE this top. Very comfy, has built in (removable) pads that actually make me look like I have boobs, is the perfect length and has a small zip pocket on the back.

I was also sent a pair of fitness tights made by Performance Wear by American Apparel (they sell for $48 on the American Apparel site). This are your run of the mill tight, not especially warm, but soft, stretchy and comfy to run in when it’s 30+ degrees outside.

How it works:

  1. Go to the PV Body website and take a style quiz (this lets you pick the activities you do (yoga, running, gym stuff), the colors you like, your size, etc).
  2. Get your fitness profile from the style quiz.
  3. Subscribe
  4. Your monthly order is shipped USPS. You will get two items per month.
  5. All items are brand new, have a retail value (combined) of $100+ and are brand names such as Lululemon, Nike, Addidas, etc.
  6. You can cancel or pause your subscription at any time.

My impressions:

  • The quality of both items is very good.
  • I like the surprise aspect and getting clothes that I might not otherwise have chosen.
  • Having them delivered to your doorstep is easy and convenient.
  • If you are okay with taking a risk and not having complete control over the style you get each month, this might be a great way to save some money.
  • PV Body says in their FAQs that both items total over $100, but as far as I could tell, mine came to $98 – close enough, I suppose, and since the cost would only be $49 with no tax or shipping, it’s still a great deal.
  • Because all brands have different ways of sizing, it might be hard to get the right fit on all items.
  • Personally, I doubt I spend $49 per month on fitness clothes, so I might do this for a couple of months, then pause my subscription for a bit.

If you are interested in signing up, go HERE and you will get 20% off. That’s only about $39 for two new brand name items, so this is the perfect way to try out PV Body.

Have you ever tried one of these “box”  or monthly subscription services? I think I did Jelly of the Month once (just kidding – Christmas Vacation reference).

How much do you estimate you spend per month in fitness apparel? What are your favorite brands? I probably average about $20 or $250 per year. I love Champion, Athleta, and Brooks.

    1. I'm curious too.... do you limit carbs? track protein? It's obvious you eat well and exercise; you are very fit and healthy.

Just stumbled upon your blog. Love it!!

Would love to know what your typical diet consists of....on an average day. Do you limit coffee/caffeine?

  6. Nyet. I can buy stuff cheaper that I choose myself. But I agree, nice pose.

  7. Seems like a cool idea, but I don't think I spend $50/month on athletic clothes either. I like to save up and ask for things I need for my birthday or Christmas. I love Athleta too!

  8. I tried them for one month but then paused my subscription. The first top I got was too small and I emailed them for a return slip. 7 days later, no response. I emailed again, next day the response was something like this: "Did someone respond to your first email?" I responded "No, but how cans I return this top?" No response, ever. And of course the 14 day return period expired. :(
Very unhappy due to their lack of service.

  10. It's a good idea but I'm very top heavy so I'd be concerned that all the tops would be for tiny people who can exercise in things with those "support shelves". Like the other commenters I stalk the sale racks of the brands I love like Athleta.

  11. Hmmm... I guess I'm just spoiled by TJ Maxx and Amazon sales, but $25 per piece seems pretty steep to me. Plus, no choice? Although, If I had the extra money just laying around, it might be fun.
Overall, I probably do spend $50+ a month, but that includes shoes and things like CW-X compression wear - things I am quite sure would never come in the kit.

  13. I love this idea, and if I wasn't so tall and hard to fit, I would try it! That said, I find Marshall's to be an awesome and cheap place to get workout clothes. I see that MPG brand there all of the time.

  14. Wow, if I didn't have to shell out mega bucks for classes soon this would be mighty tempting. I'd be really worried about sizing issues, though.

  15. I just cancelled my Birchbox monthly subscription due to the sample size being so damn small one would never have a clue whether or not they liked the product. So.....might just have to hop on this offer. I spend well over that a month on fitness clothes. My only drawback would be I'm 5'11" and NEVER find a bottom/pant that is long enough. Guess I'll play along at least for a month or two. Thanks for adding to my shopping/impulsive shopping addiction. =)

  16. I received the same tights but received a black NUX tank instead. It is a bit snug for my liking, but I might wear it to the gym or under a long sleeve tee. I really like the tights.

  17. I have to agree with the others, great poses!
No, I don't think I could do a subscription service. It's hard to find things that fit the way I like, and I do like some control over what I'm getting.
My favorite brands? Brooks, Title Nine, Athleta, and my new favorite, Lucy. I got a great tech top from them that's so nice I think I'll wear it as a regular shirt.

  18. Very tempting... but I need to cut down on my work out clothing purchases. Being a Lululemon and Brooks addict, I've spent FAR too much and amassed quite a collection. I'm at the point where I have more work out clothing than work-appropriate clothing, and that's not a good thing.

I do love that top on you though!

  19. Totally off topic, I took a Krav Maga class last night. It was fun and a great work out. Have you ever done it? I don't think it is really for runners but there were women there who are taking it for self defense. The intro class was cheap but the sign up was...are you ready for this? $259/month PLUS $400 sign up fee, marked down to $200. If the hubs and I wanted to join it would be $900 for our first month and $500 per month after that. Makes this workout clothes by mail plan sound incredibly thrifty. :)

  21. I read a review on another blog that also mentioned their order was $98 total, so I think maybe the $100+ promise is stretching it...

My favorite tops and shorts are Nike and my favorite bottoms are Under Armour (capris) and Moving Comfort (warm pants). Though I also love my Asics Thermopolis pants. So hard to pick favorites.

  22. I would think a subscription like this would be pretty unrealistic for someone who's not the perfect shape or thin like yourself.

  23. I just subscribed to Sprig, a vegan glutenfree organic snack box svc. I should be getting my first box soon!!

I spend prob $20 every couple months on athletic clothes. Every once in a while i splurge on something from athleta maybe, but it's rare.

  24. This is not for me. I hope I don't sound like a spoiled brat here, but since I have been a sponsored athlete for the past 6 seasons, I have a TON of workout clothes that I didn't pick. Some of it I like, some of it I don't, but it was all free so it didn't bother me too much if I didn't love it. As a result, it is fun to sometimes pick out something for myself that I really really want. I am actually seeking out a new sponsor so that I can wear more comfortable kits because some of the stuff from last year didn't perform well enough for me to wear at all of my races, which is how I ended up in my IM finisher pictures in a TJMaxx sports bra!

  26. to hell with the products - did you photoshop that picture or can you really get your leg to bend in such a way that your toes are up by your hip? I'm impressed and a bit jealous. I almost shouted to a roomful of people Monday night when I was able to touch the floor with my fingertips without bending me knees. (Haven't been there sense but 2013 is the year of loosening up those damn hamstrings).

  28. I thought this service sounded like a dream come true, but I haven't been too impressed. I got 2 months, then cancelled my subscription. I haven't reached out to them, but I've heard way-less-than-stellar reports of their customer service. Wonder how long this will all last... :/

But I AM glad you liked your items! That's a plus!

  29. I would recommend that before signing up for this do a search on the web for more experiences. Of the three months that I had a subscription with them, my order was late twice. This month my card was charged on the 16th and I had to call and email them before it was finally sent on the 28th. They will contact FedEx to let them know that they are shipping, but they don't actually have anything to ship. My tracking label was made up on the 16th, but FedEx did not get the shipment until the 29th. I actually asked them to refund me, and instead of doing that they passed me from customer service person to customer service person until they actually got clothes available to ship. I will keep this last shipment because they are too much of a hassle to deal with, but I have contacted them to cancel my membership. I am waiting to see how long this takes to happen.

  30. Just want to put out a warning for anybody who's thinking about signing up with them - there are loads and loads of terrible reviews that they gave gotten in regards to their horrible customer service, potential bait & switch ads, misleading promises, and bad product. Google 'PV Body scam' to see for yourself.

I myself just got a refund for shipments that never arrived after having to hound them for 6 WEEKS! That's just really inexcusable for any company.

Sarah Fit's post has tons of really insightful comments in them, so I highly recommend reading through them all.

Lots of bloggers have also recanted their support for this company. Many bloggers have found that their readers who signed up through them have had horrible issues with them. Please know what you're getting into before you decide to continue promoting them.
