When we last met at this blog, I was debating whether to race my 10K in the morning or run it with son, Sam (12). There was a definite majority opinion from the blog world.
Okay, okay. You talked me into it. I ran with Sam. And I’m glad I did. He was trying to beat his time of 59:00 from last year and he really needed some encouragement out there. Really, if I were to die tomorrow, I know I’d be happier I ran it with my boy.
I decided since I wasn’t racing, I should dress up.
It was actually Emma’s idea. I swear. Sam wasn’t too thrilled since I’d be his running partner. He took one look at me and said:
Sam: Seriously, you’re not wearing that.
Me: Yep.
Sam: You can't. That’s just not going to go well.
Well, in your face. It did go well. We were about .1 mile down the road before the first frat boy yelled, “Hey you got laid!” Hahhaha. I’ve never heard that one before. Sam said, “I think he was talking to you.”
Here’s at the start. Dr. Oz was right above me. He shot the gun. We discussed open heart surgery and poop cycles:
Pre-race prep:
All the shoes…a family that runs together still argues and gets on each other’s nerves…
Putting on the bib, a dad’s job:
Walking out the door at 6:30am…mini me with the one eyed dog:
The kids scored PRs from last year. Sam = 57:00; Emma = 1:07. Not too shabby.
Hubs and I. We are very patriotic.
I only run this race for an excuse to drink beer at 8:30 a.m. It’s my favorite past time. How did you spend your Memorial Day?
That must be so great to run with your kids! There don't seem to be as many family races here in the UK - I wish there were more.
ReplyDeleteGreat times for both your kids - well done them!
Wow your kids did great. It must be fun. I can't wait until mine are old enough to race with me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific day - I love your outfit! Some of my favorite races have been run with my oldest son, but I have *maybe* one more year before he's too fast for me to catch him. :-)
ReplyDeleteWish I could have been at the race! I didn't trust myself to "just have fun" (marathon on Sunday... racing today would be not okay) so I worked instead. Maybe a beer is still in order though! Great times!!
ReplyDeleteNot too shabby at all!!! I love to see a family that is active together. :) Kudos to you for making that happen!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your whole family!! It must have been so much fun to run this together! I ran it with my brother, and it was a blast! I was really surprised by how many young (kid) runners there were. totally inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to do it again next year. Boulder is such an awesome town.
Awesome! Love your costume. Your kids are great runners, must feel good! I swimed/biked/run my long weekend:)
ReplyDeleteYou lucky duck!! I can't wait until my younger two boys are older. Maybe I will get a runner out of one of them hahaha!
ReplyDeleteLove that you ran with your family and that you wore a costume! Its good for them to be, or at least think they are, humiliated once in a while. Especially tween boys!
Wearing a costume at a race is on this years to do list!
Nice! You have a cute family! Congrats on the PRs. Glad the race went well and you got laid!
ReplyDeleteawwwww love the pictures of the family! congrats on the prs. your kids are so athletic! and woot to the costume. very awesome and fun.
ReplyDeleteFun raceday outfit :> I love how you and your daughter are twinsies, as well as DH & your son!! I hope to run that 10K in Boulder someday soon!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! Getting laid and beer in the morning....good stuff lady!
ReplyDeleteGlad you ran with him....way cool!
Good stuff! Your arms are serious guns, btw.
ReplyDeleteMy son ran a 5k today with my husband, which was great to watch!
What a great day for your family and such awesome pics! Love the outfits. :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice you opted to run with your son. Great times for both of your chitlins! You looked so festive and utterly embarassing for your son. IMO, it was worth running with him just for that reason alone. Embarassing your kid is one of a parents main jobs!
ReplyDeleteMade me smile that you ran with your son, that's great!! Love the pics and outfits, too funny.
ReplyDeleteHaha, love the outfit! Congrats to the kids!
ReplyDeleteMemories were made today that will last a lifetime . . . Congtat's to the entire family.
ReplyDeleteAdorable family. I can't wait for my kiddos to get big enough to run w/ mom and dad. I made my feet stay out of running shoes all weekend, they didn't like it.
ReplyDeleteYay for Sam getting his PR! Nice outfits...ha ha! :)
ReplyDeleteOMG I love your family pic.....how great to all run the same race!
ReplyDeleteyou crack me up. ofcourse you got laid. thats what happens when you wear a lei! :) great job to you and your family peeps! :)
ReplyDeletesoooo cute. I wanna race with my kids in a few years;-) and kudos for 'racing' w/ your lil guy.
ReplyDeleteoh, and the shoe picture...that's the one that's priceless;-)
Cute running gear. My son would kill me if I wore that to run with him; my 4 year old would laugh himself silly.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS!!! You are such a fun mom!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a great looking family! I will be excited when my girls can race!
ReplyDeleteNow that is some family fun! Your son's expression is priceless!
ReplyDeleteI love that your whole family races together. Aweosme costumes and congrats to Sam & Emma!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome day! I think you made the right choice to run with him.... although I do understand the pull both ways.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing other families that run together. I can't get my wife out there (yet) but both all three of my kids run with me. Our next race as a family will be in less than 2 weeks. Both my daughters (16, 14) will be running the 5k with me (one of them (14) will be beating me for sure) and my son (8) and I will be running the 1k like last year.
What did I do on Memorial day? I did a Tweetup 6 mile trail run with 4 others that I met on twitter. It was my first trail run ever, and first Tweetup ever as well - very cool and I even got home in time for a late breakfast with my family (since none of them would get up early enough to go with me)
Haha! You two look great! I love the costumes. I'm glad that you "just ran" with your son, I'm sure it made his PR extra special (even though he was embarrased to run next to hula mom).
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you all ran! And great choice running with Sam, he'll always remember that.
ReplyDeleteTell him congrats on the big PR!
and congrats to Emma on her PR, too!
ReplyDeleteI've really been embracing most everything with the attitude..."Life's too short to...(fill in the blank)" And that race was def one of those moments! Life's too short to miss an opportunity to run with your son! LOVE the outfit! Hoorah for PR's!
ReplyDeletethat's awesome....I spent mine chomping on Garrett's popcorn in the CHI!!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures:) It looks like you and your family had a blast! I wish I could talk my entire family into doing at least a 5K with me:)
ReplyDeleteI'm totally gunna have a family that runs together. That's several years down the road, though. I spent the wknd cleaning and preparing to go on VACA. WOOOO!
ReplyDeleteEmma ran a 10k in 1:07?! And Sam in 57 mins?!That's amazing!!! I feel like a Rock Star when I can do it in under 1:20!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are my hero! I have no idea how I could get my fam to run with me. I just keep praying about it. As for Memorial Day: We spent it hanging out with friends and eating, of course! It was awesome!
That is such a fun race. I think the same frat house cheered as I ran by, maybe because my booty shorts were slowly turning into Victoria's Secret style underwear!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the PRs!! I struggled for my 58 minutes, but met Ryan Hall later on at it made my day!
My son just started showing some interest in jogging. It's hard to keep him interested in something, but I'm trying to fuel his interest without putting any pressure on him. Hopefully I'll be able to run a race with my kids someday. Looks like a blast!
ReplyDeleteI love the shoe picture!!! Great family memories. Your kids are too freaking adorable!
ReplyDeleteRock on! Embarrassing family is just one of the little joys in life!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the shoe picture!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful that you guys all ran it as a family. Way to go!
Cute kiddos and I love your running outfit...once again you don't look a day over...uh, 16?! Rockin the grass skirt, girl!
ReplyDeleteI see you're kids take after their speedy mom! Great pics :)
ReplyDeletehow did we miss THAT?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteI, too, loved running with my boy.
Just got home and he is still bragging that he 'beat me' - finished something like, "If it's cool with you I'm going to finish the race on my own." We said, "Go for it!"
Silly kid acts like he wants to race me or something...
Love a family that runs together! Your kids did fantastic! And seriously love your outfit :)
ReplyDeleteYour kids did great!! And you looked just lurvely :)
ReplyDeleteNice getup. Your daughter is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! Great family pic :)
ReplyDeleteI need to come do that race...even though I harbor a secret 10k hatred..
ReplyDeleteWOW, how fun! I'm glad you ran with your son. Good job to both kids for pr'ing! You've got a family of runners!!!
ReplyDeleteNice job, kiddos! And I love the outfits.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. I love your outfit!
ReplyDeleteOMG. I can only HOPE that I am as awesome of a mom as you are. I would LOVE to embarrass my kids that much. Doing it to my wife is starting to get old.
