Dragging

Since you all ragged on me so much for my dorky tri clothes when I did my one and only tri ten years ago, I invested in some real tri-shorts yesterday. Sugoi baby. Not cheap, so they better protect my girl parts sufficiently.

My race is on Sunday and my game plan is to swim in the shorts and sports bra, then put on a sleeveless bike shirt for the bike and run. Here I am showing you my updated outfit. Clearly the dog in the background has just done her business in the bathroom and is on her way to drag her butt across the carpet:

Speaking of dragging asses, you’ve got to watch this. Dying laughing over here:

Did I mention I haven't really trained for this thing? Except for the run part of course. I trained for that by running a marathon, so I should be good. It’s a sprint distance (525 yd swim, 12 mile bike, 5K) so how bad can it be? I did two brick workouts this week (I just learned what the word “brick” meant. I always thought it was  reddish rectangular block that you used to build houses). It’s when you do biking/running consecutively in one workout.

Today’s brick looked like this:

Bike: 10 miles @ 16.3 avg = 36:30 minutes

Transition: bike to run ~2 mins

Run: 5K @ 7:43 avg = 23:59

That’s probably about as good as it’s going to get for me. I learned after the fact that you’re not supposed to do bricks the week (or even two weeks) before the race – FAIL – and  that you should work up to it – FAIL. I never said I knew what I was doing.

Don’t forget my GIVEAWAY!

  3. You're good to go! You can do that swim and bike in your sleep, I'm sure. And you'll hammer the run so use it to pass everyone!

Love the new outfit. I suppose whenever I do another tri I will now have to get on the bandwagon and race like a modern girl!

  5. Hey! I'm doing my first ever tri on Sunday, too! Same distance, same training plan! LOL Almost same bike but I'm already getting caught in the cult-like atmosphere of tris, and might get myself a decent bike today (if I can convince the hubby, that is... ;))

Good luck to both of us!! At least you look good in the tri-wear. Not me. I look like I need some lipo. Stat. (Of course I DO, but most clothing can hide that fact.)

  7. Good luck at the race. I'll be interested to hear how it goes since you spent soooo much time training for it. I didn't train as much as I should have for my last tri and that race ended up kicking my ass. Oh wait, is that something I shouldn't be telling you before your race? Oops.

  12. oh, you'll be fine, the effort is less than a half marathon. i did one sprint, i am such an expert:) i did my sprint in my basing suit (swim and bike) and i put on a pair of shorts for the run (suit was dry by then). I don;t think you need bike shorts for such a slow bike, plus the padding of the shorts would surely drag me down in the water. Good luck!!!

  21. You look the 'real deal' in your new threads. Have fun with your 3-way.

Love the dog video. The vet in me just wants to help. All I need is a tissue and my anal-gland-popping-fingers and he'd be a much happier puppy.
