Just the Push of a Button

This morning, as a friend and I were running at 10,500 feet in the Colorado wilderness, I remembered why I love trail running.

Boreas Pass – outside Breckenridge, CO

You are so removed from the hustle and bustle of “real life.” It is just you, your breath, and the sound of your feet softly making contact with the trail. I also remembered why I occasionally fear trail running - you are so removed from the hustle and bustle of “real life” that it leaves you vulnerable to all sorts of things.

On this particular run at 6:30 a.m., I have to admit I was more afraid of wild animals than wild humans. Every dark tree trunk resembled a bear. Every rustle in the trees had me looking around for a cougar (wait, maybe that was just my 42 year old cougar friend beside me). Even having a buddy with me, I felt strangely at risk.

Which brings me to…

I want to give one last push for the Bia Sport watch. Aside from being a sporty GPS watch, it has a safety feature that provides peace of mind. The safety alert feature enables the athlete/user to send an alert via text message to a predefined contact.  It will also send the athlete’s coordinates – enabling the receiver to go assist that person if they are hurt, lost, or at risk for any other reason.

This watch is not available for purchase yet. It still needs many dollars worth of backing before it can begin to go to market. This is the final week. There are only five days to go, and if the funds are not there, the idea of this watch goes “bye, bye” forever more. Consider going HERE to back Bia. You can do it for as little as a $1. If the funding doesn’t happen, you will get your money back. If it does happen, you will have access to an amazing product that could even save your life.

So, if you’ve ever felt at risk out there on your runs, support Bia. Even if it is not a watch you would buy, it’s a great product to help bring to the masses. Think of Sherry, think of Sarah Hart. Think of it as one way we can encourage safety amongst our running sisters!

I spent 2+ hours at 12:45-almost 3 am on sunday running down a mountain for a leg on my Sinister7 Ultra Mara team. GOD so beautiful. Scared of the cougar sights that occurred earlier...but finished run feeling strong and amazing. What a crazy run in the complete darkenss running down a mountain and getting my ass handed to me by nature and the multiple creeks and mud bogs. And such a great weekend to remove myslef from crazy city living. Trail running!!! sigh...so fab

  2. Thank you for posting about Bia Sport watch again! I'm a backer and really want this watch to happen, if for no other reason than the emergency 1-press button. I have no idea why someone hasn't come up with this sooner. Ah, perhaps it's because this watch is created by women?? If everyone tells a few people, we can help Bia get the backing they need and see this watch on our wrists soon.

  4. What a beautiful place to run in! I think I could run for hours and hours without even thinking about it if I had that kind of scenery to look at. :) I really need to get into trail running.

Thanks for sharing that safety feature on the Bia watch--that's a really nice thing to have. I don't usually run with my phone and just pressing a button is a heck of a lot easier than typing out a text message or making a phone call anyway.

  5. I truly envy the beautiful trails you get to run on. We have trails here and I love them, but they don't look like that!

Bia sounds like a great idea. Seeing lots of buzz about it, so I'm guessing it will make it!

    1. NO! The buzz is building but we are still have a long way to go to hit our goal. We need everyone that likes the idea to back our project - we only have 4 days left and if we don't hit our goal this product never gets made.

Even if you are not ready to pre-order the watch, you can back for a lesser amount and get another great thank you gift. I know Team Oiselle is getting their own custom watch band if we hit our goal, so hopefully you are on board with them!

  6. I'm jealous of those trails! KC has nothing like them :/
Bia sounds like a fabulous idea especially for trail running even think of Micah True. Even men need protection sometimes.

    1. Wow, I hadn't thought of that for Micah. You are absolutely right. And since we have a "run naked" mode where the watch is tracking your distance and pace but only shows you the current time - so you can focus on your running and not get tempted by your stats - he would have loved it.

Would love you on board with our Kickstarter. Everyone makes a difference.

  7. Wow, it's like "I've fallen and I can't get up" for athletes.

    1. LOL. I love it. Hopefully you can jump on board and back us. If we don't hit our Kickstarter goal it will be like we've fallen and can't get up :-)

  8. That is breathtaking. Indiana does not have trails like that, but we do have sand dunes and Lake Michigan!

  10. That picture is gorgeous. Karen is pushing me to get some sort of watch so that she can track me as I ride, especially when I do it alone. Maybe I can get this and strap it to my bike.

  13. Love, love, love the Bia watch. I backed it. I so hope they get enough funding! I ran in Glacier Park once when we were camping. There are tons of bears up there, so I was NERVOUS. I kept singing to help keep them away. Yes, I am that bad of a singer. :)

  19. The only kind of wild animals that have approached me on trails are creepy men. But I just give them a tongue lashing and run by them. My fave trail in Co. is Pikes Peak. Doing this one any time soon?
