5 Things I’m Liking In November

Do you even care what I like? Probably not. But, in case you do, read on.

1. This book:

It’s been awhile since I was so engrossed in a book (hated the ending though) and I can see why this is being made into a movie. I’m not sure if they’ve cast the parts of Nick and Amy yet, so who do you think should play them? I wouldn’t mind seeing Ryan Gossling (for obvious reason) paired with __________ (Gwyneth Paltrow? Rachel McAdams? Amy Adams? Clare Danes? Beth from Shut Up + Run?).

2. This new product:

God bless the cold hearted wench who invented this heated throw blanket. I just bought one as a gift for someone (maybe it’s you!) at Costco yesterday (on sale for $23.99). I’ve made it known to anyone who will listen (Costco cashier) that I desperately need one for myself.

3. This shirt:

injuredrunner

I will never be injured again. Okay, I might be. If this is the case, I will buy this shirt and never take it off until I can run again. I will wear this shirt everyday, eat Cheetos and cry. I would like it better if it said, “Caution: Injured  Runner. May Slap the Shit Out of You.”

4. This treat:

Thanksgiving morning Cinnamon Sugar Pull Apart Pumpkin Bread with Buttered Rum Glaze. Nothing bad about that. Suck it cinnamon rolls!  Recipe HERE.

5. These pantaloons:

Since it got cold in Colorado the other day, I have been running in these Go Lite Thermal Tights. In fact, I ran in them this morning. I would model them but I’m too lazy and they’re dirty and they smell. They are lined with a light layer of fleece that keeps your woman parts comfy and cozy. They are on sale for $55 (originally $140), but I think I got them at the Go Lite outlet in Boulder last spring for $40. That means I saved $100 so I can go spend that on something else. That’s how it works, right?

Read any good books lately? I’m always looking for ideas.

Random question: if a story was being made about your life, who would you want to be cast as you? Meg Ryan. I’ve always had a girl crush on her. She would be a prettier, cuter, more dynamic version of me. We watched “You’ve Got Mail Last Night” from 1998. I kept wondering when they were going to move to Seattle because for the first half of the movie I thought I was watching “Sleepless in Seattle”. Yes, I am Clueless in Colorado.

Any new products you’re liking on this low-key pre-Thanksgiving weekend?

  1. I was going to say Meg Ryan for myself! I watch 'You've Got Mail' and 'French Kiss' a couple times a year. Love her.

  2. What size did you get the pants in? I'm confused since the sizes re in cms

    1. Mine are a size medium. I thought they ran small

  3. I've been looking for some good cold weather tights -- just snagged the last two from Amazon for $69 (for both!! -- if I bought only one, had to pay $10 shipping, so I splurged and bought two, figuring I was still not even paying the full price for one! right? :) ). Thanks for the recommendation!

  4. Gone Girl was a great book! It definitely didn't turn out the I was hoping, but I'm excited to hear that they are making a movie!

I would pick: Amanda Seyfried and Bradley Cooper.

  5. That's my shirt! :D I love that shirt. Thankfully, I'm not having to wear it at the moment, but I know it'll make a comeback eventually. Stupid shirt. I hate that shirt. Anyway...I have that blanket on my Christmas list. And my latest find is FitSok socks. I love them even more than my Balegas and they are tremendously cheaper.

  6. I read that book and thought it was excellent, but I also found the ending too contrived.

  7. I ALWAYS get Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail confused. Both great movies, though. Have you seen Meg Ryan recently, though? You might want to go for "Meg Ryan circa 1998" rather than "Meg Ryan after she ruined her face."

Those electric blankets are a life saver-the thing I most look forward to after a cold run outside is a hot shower and my electric blanket.

  8. Yeah, the ending was infuriating, but the basis for a good conversation! I heard that Reese Witherspoon picked it up to produce and star in; I think she's a good choice for sweet/evil - ever seen Election? I also stayed up until midnight last nite reading another Gillian Flynn novel: Dark Places. Crazy page turner as well.

    1. Read Sharp Objects! It makes Dark Places and Gone Girl look like childrens' stories in terms of the creep factor. Gillian Flynn is a great writer.

  9. Just finished reading a book called "The Night Circus" that was really fun to read. You might want to check it out! It's about magic and power and love and it's a good story...hard to explain in just a comment, but I highly recommend!

  10. Dang. What a deal on the tights. I just bought Brooks tights for cold weather running and I didn't even think about going downtown to the Go Lite store & looking for gear there. I just picked up the book Eat & Run by Scott Jurek at the library and I will start reading it soon.

  11. Kitchen House was a great book and I just finished Round House. Weird that I downloaded two books with the word 'house' in the title. Both good, Kitched House was better.

  12. Grrrr... that ending made me SO mad! Have you read 'The Lace Reader' or 'The Red Tent?' I HIGHLY recommend both! :)

  13. Eat and Run by Scott Jurek was SUPER good. Can't wait to read your book pic - sounds very good!

  14. Kitchen house was a great, great book. Loved it. Gone girl was good but I agree the ending sucked. Just started reading Mrs. Queen Takes the Train. (As I get all my recommendations from People magazine) and I think I like it but I just started it.

  15. I'm reading Barbara Kingsolver's new book "Flight Behavior".

  16. I've read all of Gillian Flynn's novels and have to say that "Dark Places" is my favorite. "Gone Girl" is good, but I think "Dark Places" is way creepier, darker, and twistier. If you like that kind of thing.

  17. Gone Girl is supposedly being produced and starring Reese Witherspoon... Not sure I would agree with it, as I don't see her doing the twisted side of that character. I only imagine her sweet and precious. FANTASTIC book though - even though I also hated ending.

    1. I heard she was producing the movie, but not necessarily acting in it (or not playing Amy anyway). Guess we'll see. I agree, don't think I see her in that role.

and wow,i would so love to be able to just sit and read a grown up book again, maybe when the kiddos get bigger and the baby starts sleeps through the night???

  19. It'd definitely have to be Cameron Diaz because we're practically twins.

  20. I'm injured right now and I think I need that shirt. I'm with you though - it needs to have a few different sayings. Injured runner, caution I may kick your ass.
Kristi McNicol can play me. But only if she's current on her medications. (Bahahahaha)

  21. Just finished the book. Didn't like the ending, but I think the problem was me - and my expectations - not the book. I mean, how often does THE PERFECT ENDING (whatever that really means) happen in the real world? More often than not, you get what you get, you do the best you can with it, and you keep moving forward. Of course, this was a pretty extreme situation of "move forward with it", but...anyway.

And that shirt? I need. I don't plan on getting injured, but just in case. It's fair warning to those around me...

    1. Yeah, I see what you mean, but I just thought the author didn't know how to wrap up the book, so dropped in this bogus ending. Not realistic in the slightest.

  22. I don't think she acts, but I'd pick Cindy Crawford. Mainly because before we met, my husband went to a psychic who told him he would marry someone who looked like Cindy. Eerie how accurate they can be...;)

  23. Need that shirt!
    Love meg Ryan too.
Bought that book, can't wait to read it.

  24. Where was that shirt 6 months ago when I really needed it?

I liked Gone Girl, didn't like the ending either. I see Bradley Cooper for the husband, not sure for the wife. Needs to be some evil, psycho type actress.

I used to love Meg Ryan, now she's all plastic surgery and duck lips...why did she do that? (sigh)

  25. I am still reading Gone Girl but haven't heard anything about casting.
I would think someone like Jennifer Lawrence. I have no idea really.

    The Kidless Kronicles

  26. am smitten with Tana French. she has some of the most beautiful writing I have seen in a long time, especially in a book with a murder plot. Chevy Stevens, also quite good. Another worth the read, though might not love them. Room (weird, and quite outside the box- no pun intended ;) lol. and yes, I want that blanket!!

  27. I never have time to read these days...still trying to get through To Big To Fail but I did read You are an Ironman in 2 days a few weeks ago. Ottawa is cold and I love my heated blanket for TV watching and a hot water bottle in my bed at night. Just bought Fila running tights at Kohls a few weeks ago. Almost as good as my Lands Ends pr I got a few years ago, too bad they do not make them anymore. My favorite T-shirt says "I know I run like a girl" and on the back it says "try to keep up".

    ReplyDelete
  28. I loved Chrissie Wellington's "A Life Without Limits." I also liked "What I Talk about When I Talk about Running" -- Murakami tackles two of my favorite topics -- running and writing.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have that same plush throw and it is amazing and necessary for an Alaskan "autumn".

    ReplyDelete
  30. My Favorite is the T-shirt.

  31. I haven't heard of that book - I must get something other than "Maffetone Method, The holistic, low-stress, no-pain way to exceptional fitness" on my reading list - this book is DULLsville (but important :)).

I saw that shirt and thought, "NOoooooo, you aren't injured again." Phew! So glad to hear all is well. Someday we MUST get together and run. Okay? Miss ya!

  32. Loved Gone Girl--that ending, though!

Very cool shirt--may have to add that one to my collection.

  33. I was feeling a little behind the times that I had not read Gone Girl yet. Glad to see I am not alone. I just picked up the book a few days ago. Oh YUM that pumpkin bread. Making some ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm going to be making cinnamon sugar monkey bread (sorry, but I hate pumpkin)

    1. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm actually sick of pumpkin. I think the Costco pumpkin streusal muffins put me over the edge.

  35. I felt the same way about "Gone Girl" - loved the book, couldn't put it down. But I hated the ending.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I seriously want every single thing you posted. I NEED the heated blanket and those rolls look WAY better than silly cinnamon rolls.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Reading "Gone Girl" right now! Intrigued so far, but you're not the first person to mention that the ending sucked, so I'm not sure how I feel about that. Guess I'll find out when I get there.

  38. OMG that cinnamon thing just looks dangerous. I have some fleece lined pants and they're the new sweats. I wear them constantly in the winter.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm going to have to try those cinnamon pumpkin bread thingys.

Claire Danes would play me. I'm not sure why. I think it's actually Claire Danes circa My So Called Life. She was just so me!
