Care for An After Dinner Mint?

Consider this my Valentine's Day post. Did you ever used to call it "VD" because you thought you were so cool slipping in the name of an STD? Or maybe it was just me.

Here is what I made for Emma's class party:

Just because I fart a lot and have accidents when I run does not mean I am not Martha Stewart. Make no mistake. I might not have spent much time in prison and I might not make my own underwear, but I can be crafty when the occasion calls for it.

I was thinking to myself how funny it would be to get some really off color conversation hearts. Then I realized I was just one google away from them. And voila!

But, you have to be careful what you're looking for online, because the same search gave me this:

After dinner nipple anyone? Seriously, if I ever own a restaurant everyone is getting these with their check.

For VD, we live it up over here. I make the kids heart-shaped waffles and yogurt parfaits. If I was really cool I'd say I put flax in waffle mix and use Greek yogurt for the parfaits, but this is a running blog not a healthy eating blog. We don't do that around here. After the waffle/parfait extravaganza, we ship the kids off to the garage somewhere else in the house and the real party begins. Typically it involves an overpriced bottle of wine and some sort of seafood. It might not seem much, but we love this little tradition. It's kept us together for 15 years.

What are you doing for VD?? Do you love it or hate it? Do you love or hate this large font and red lettering?

  1. Sometimes I really despise the 'ol VD. I don't know why. To me it's just another day! LOL

  2. Valentine's Day is for kids - not OF (old farts) that have been married for 20+ years. Our version of VD is hiding the sharp knives.

  3. We're ordering a $10 pizza and drinking a $20 bottle of wine while watching Sunday night re-runs of the Simpsons. Ahh...I love marriage lol. Nipple anyone?

  4. Cute treats! We don't do squat for VD. I ate some of the kids candy today from the school party, that was fun! Everyday is love day here!

  5. Nice treats!!

Im not a fan of Valentine's day....all I can think about is how a nice bouquet of flowers could be the same price as a new pair of running shoes! Hopefully couples do special things throughout the year and not just on this day.

PS, I already had a good laugh at someone using "VD" as an abbreviation. I couldn't help myself!

  6. We're simply going to go see a movie, without our daughter. If we happen to make out a little too, so be it. ;o)

  7. Oh my god, I've just come across your blog and have tears in my eyes from all the laughing. Fantastic! Love a good poop disclosure (thank you, 5 brothers and mostly-male contingent of friends for the finely-tuned appreciation of bathroom humor). As for VD, I'll be going out for a "long" run of 6 miles (long for me--I'm new to this) in keeping with the half-marathon training. My miles wait for no man. :)

  8. We've never done VD much...but, it's not like I have anything against it :) ...we're not big on special days in general. I like your tradition though, it's right up my nothing fancy alley.

  9. Cute treats for the class!

We usually just try to eat a nicer dinner at home, but my hubby always buys me some present and leaves it where I find it randomly. It's nice to be surpised!

  10. Heart shaped waffles sound great! We usually make heart shaped pancakes for the kiddos, give them some candy treats, and go about our day. I like V-day, but it's not that huge of a deal to me.

We are running a V-day 5K Sunday morning though, so that should be pretty fun!

  11. Aww those are so cute! I love those vday candy hearts. I'm running for Vday :)

  12. Those treats are adorable! I LOVE the chocolate nipples...I may just have to order some of those. :)

For VD I am spending it with hubby and the kids. Chocolate, heart shaped plates, etc. Always fun!

  13. You never fail to make me giggle. :) Love that. Hate the red font. Like VD, er...Valentine's Day. S'awright.

  14. There is a VD 5K in Denver - but thankfully I am not running it, though I will be running a few miles. Have a great VD, Beth. Let's get together soon and go for a run???

  16. So....do the "after dinner nipples" come with some kind of edible adhesive?
    Just wondering!
Won't be doing much but phone sex for VD-we both work different shifts and don't see much of each other unfortunately. In fact, I wonder if he even still lives here!
    Just kidding!
    Happy weekend!

  17. Nothin' - absolutely nothin' Although I may try to locate some off color conversation hearts.

  18. We're not big Valentines Day folks around here. I think we might try a little harder this year since I now have a 3 y/o and they made such a big deal of it at his Mother's Morning Out.

    Have a great one!

  19. Love what you made. SO cute!

We will just spend the day together. Not sure we will go out as we are watching what we eat. I got him weights for V-day.

  20. Since my birthday and VD are so close together, VD tends to take a back seat, so no big plans here. But those after dinner nipples could really spice things up!

  21. What am I doing on VD??? I have a special day planned... my 12 year old daughter and I are starting the day by running in a half marathon here in town, hubs will meet us at the finish with some Hot Now Krispy Kremes, then we'll venture into the after party and I'll stand by the keg and drink beer until I can't drink anymore then I'll go home lay on the sofa because I do that so well! Have a wonderful day and thanks for making me laugh with every post!

  22. so cute!
For "VD" we're doing dinner out. I just wrote a post about a few other crafty Valentine-related things too.

  23. No after dinner nipples here, at least not in chocolate, but you can't hear about that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am spending VD with my true love: 18 miles of running!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Haha those look yummy! VD is my birthday so lucky me:)

  26. Valentines' Day is not a big deal for us. It just happened that this year our friends are having a fondue party, so we'll go there. And tomorrow the same friends are sitting for our son, so we'll have a nice dinner. And sex without worrying that he will walk on us!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Those are pretty martha stewart of you! My wife's running on the 13th, I'm running on VD and we're switching the kids off between the two of us. And no, we're not divorced, we just run separately because someone has to watch the kids, right?

    ReplyDelete
  28. wow those turned out amazing!!! Just found your blog and you're hilarious!!!

  29. You did an awesome job on those treats for Emma's class...really I am totally jealous!

I hate Valentine's Day...I think it is the most vile holiday ever. Yes, that is the bitter, single person talking. I plan to shop, eat chocolate and watch the Olympics.

  30. My fiance argues he doesn't need one day of the year to tell me he loves me since he uses the other 364 days of the year to do so.
But he still gets me a little something for fun :-)
I do get something for my mom, she has always been my Valentine and we make a little big deal out of it...

  31. I love the treats--they look so yummy!

As for Valentine's day I think it sets too many expectations, and hallmark makes so much money that I am pretty untrusting of the whole holiday itself. But, my husband and I are going to Chicago to celebrate so I am very excited about that!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm all about all holidays, but mostly for my kids. We do the heart shaped pancakes with strawberry syrup and one never needs a good excuse to overindulge on chocolate.

As for my hubby and me, once we've got the kiddos shipped off to bed, we have a super romantic night planned, that's right, we're going to watch "Zombieland". Nothing like the living dead and plenty of gore to get you in the loving mood. ha ha

  33. Love the nipples, hate the red large font, not doing anything for VD, love the treats!

    ReplyDelete
  34. We are making brunch at home. Going to Mass then visiting my parents at the cemetary. We've never done a lot for VD. Some years over others but I'm taking my children to see The Lighnight Theif tomorrow as their treat. MUST YOU BE GOOD AT EVERYTHING, SHUTUPANDRUN? JESUS CHRIST... COULD SOME OTHER OF US GET A LITTLE TALENT WITH SOMETHING. RUNNING, COOKING, CRAFTS, AMBIANCE FOR HOT PASSIONATE LOVEMAKING AND OPENNESS TO ALL THINGS SHIT.

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL. The large red lettering is ANNOYING :P

We laid low today :) We ate out last night, and I told Steven that was our VD dinner. ;)

I think you should manufacture your own conversation hearts!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love the treats for class. Love the "Did U Fart" heart (my husband needs one of those). Love the after dinner nipples even more! We're having sushi on the couch to celebrate. Yay love.

    ReplyDelete
  37. well hello martha! those treats look yummy! Hope you had a great VD :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I could take or leave VD but wine and seafood?? Love that!

    ReplyDelete
  39. love the red ridiculously large font for sure. sounds like a good VD to me. Heh heh.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I made conversation heart cookies. The possibilities are endless...

  41. I honestly think of V-Day as a nessesary evil. sort of like going to the dentist or having a prostate exam. You know, the fun things!

We went to Fogo De Chow and ate our weight in MEAT!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Those after dinner nipples are a little disturbing! Nice job on your Martha-style VD treats.

We had a nice day at home with plenty of wine and chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  43. your large red font is less annoying than Valentine's Day. Even though I have researched the holiday for some freelance writing ndeavors in the past, I still think Hallmark made it up. But I did give my daughters each a pair of heart earrings that used to belong to their great-grandmother.
