Warning: Don't Slow Down

A couple of notes on a Monday, so I don't forget.

I just bought a new hair straightener. My hair is already straight, but I like to spend my money on things I don't need, so I bought one. I know the warnings on most products are ridiculous, but this was the dumbest one yet:

"Do not use while sleeping."

Really? Because I was going to go to bed tonight and do the impossible by straightening my hair while asleep, but I guess I won't attempt that after all. Maybe I will just eat my frozen pizza before I cook it or spray my deodorant in my eyes or use my microwave to dry my dog or use my toilet brush orally or substitute my earplugs with silly putty. Ooops, can't do those things either, according to the warning labels. Silly warning labels.

Second thing. We are all always looking for songs for our iPods. Those running songs that get you pumped and keep you going. Funny that even tho I have hundreds of songs on my iPod, I am desperately sick of them all. Ken told me about a great new running song by Matt & Kim called, "Don't Slow Down." Appropriate for a running song, n'est-ce pas? I pulled it up on iTunes, it is really does have a catchy beat. I LOVE this song. And I think it's a good song for your tempo and speed workouts because it tells you to not slow down. I'm pretty smart:

Third thing. I did my speed workout today on the treadmill. I usually do it at the track, but the track was occupied by pre-pubescent boys and I didn't want to wow them with my buxom bosoms. Anyway, the workout called for 5 miles with 1600 x 2 @ 7:30. Holy speedshit, this is 8 mph. When I turned the treadmill up that high it freaked me out, given last week's accident. So I actually did a total nerd treadmill thing and held on with one hand. I don't care what you think of me. At least I was safe. And it was nothing like the time I saw someone doing this on the treadmill.

Second to last thing. I am going to my first ever Bikram hot flow 90 minute yoga class tomorrow. Any advice from you regular Krammers?

Last thing. Check out this blog for a great giveaway and to leave your shock value story.

Drinking: H2O. Too late for coffee, too early for wine.

  1. Didn't you feel like such a rockstar though when you had it 8 mph (even though you were holding the side :-) )? Good job on the speedwork!
And I haven't tried the Bikram yoga yet. Dying to try it out - maybe your review will be just what I need to push me over the edge :)

  2. Woot! Go yoga!!!

This morning was my last day (of my cheap trial week)...we'll see how long I go before sucking it up and paying the $$$ because I LOVE IT!

My advice: Bring a small towel to wipe your face/hands. I don't mind sweating, but i HATE when it drips in my mouth, and sweaty hands make some of the postures harder...

    Good luck!

  3. hahaha your hair straightener comment pulled me out of lurkerdom today... i got a new hair straightener for christmas, and said the exact same thing to my dad. what a ridiculous disclaimer - but you know they had to include it because some moron probably tried to sleep with their straightener in hopes of waking up looking like jennifer aniston...

  4. Ha, sounds like you have PTSD from your treadmill incident. I think it was Roosevelt who said "The only thing we runners have to fear is stepping on a moving treadmill."

  5. So if the hair on your head doesn't need straightening, but you insist on straightening your hair - which hair are we talking about?

  6. It is NEVER too early for wine.

It's 5:00 Central! You have my permission.

  7. You make me laugh every day - thanks for being so freaking awesome. I won't judge you for holding on to the treadmill. at 8mph I would be too!!!

  8. Darn I was really hoping to free up some time during the day and start straightening my hair at night..ruined that for me! Oh that song would definitely make me run faster, thanks for sharing! And it's never too early for wine..I'm drinking wine now...(but I guess it's possible you wrote this post several hours ago....) :)

  9. Gotta love new songs! oh and thanks for the heads up on the hair straightener. That tip seriously averted some danger here. I love your candor and whit! Glad I found your blog!

  10. Oooooh Bikram!!! Nice. Watch your knees if you have "sketchy" knees as mine often hurt from doing some of the poses.
Be prepared to sweat AND I know how much you like poop . . . some of the poses in Bikram are known "assist the flow" in that area and if you thought running and having to poop is bad, try being in a 105 degree room having to poop.

  11. Nice warning! Scary thing is they have to put that on there because some idiot would actually try it!

  12. With 13 weeks to go until my marathon, I am officially sick of the playlist I've started for it! Thanks for the new song, I'm going to add it now! I will definitely give ya a shout for a run together when Tara and I hook up again. And if you ever want to get together for part or all of a long run, just holler. We could meet downtown, somewhere in between our opposite ends of the city, or go find a fun trail somewhere. I'm always game for company! And that warning about the straightener is so stupid...who in the world would ever write something like that for that product!! haha

  13. I too like to buy things I don't need! I could open up my own body lotion store from all I have bought on sale and HAD to get!

  14. First of all, Jamoosh get your head out of the gutter:) Secondly, that was a great song with an awesome beat. I do not run with an iPod but I can see how an upbeat song would help to rev the engines up towards the end of the race. I buy crap that I don't need all the time too!! Every now and then I just got to have something new:)

  15. your warning label tease cracked me up!!! Now go rip those tags off your pillows!

  16. Cool song...except for that nearly constant tone, hardly changing beeping at the beginning. My favorite running-related song is "Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder, though it's too slow for a tempo run.

  17. That is catchy. Very good advice too. Question: would it be overkill to put this on repeat and listen to it over and over again during my next marathon?

    Bikram:
    1) don't freak out at the smell when you first walk in. Seriously stank.

    2) wear as little clothing that your comfortable with

    3) bring 2 towels. One big one to use on the floor and another hand towel to periodically wipe the sweat off your hands and legs so you can actually hold the position. I get so sweaty that my hand literally slips. Annoying.

    4) Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate.

I hope you like it. It took me a couple of times to really feel it. The first time was pretty overwhelming and it took me a while to go back, but there are definite befefits.

  18. Do not use whilst sleeping... amazing!! Just like the bag of nuts that says caution contains nuts...ridiculous!!

  19. Interested to see your take on Bikram!

  20. Catchy tune... i have GOT to put that on the ipod. The scary thing is someone has tried all those warning label warnings!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Good tune. i'll have to get that one.
8 mph is a great run but I know what you mean on the T/M. It's good for sprints.

  22. Have to laugh at those warnings sometimes... who are they making these things for??? (Probably not people with straight hair. Hey, maybe it'll make your hair wavy or curly.)

I'm done 1600s at 7:30 on the treadmill and at first it always feels like my legs are no longer a part of my body. The whole time I'm like "what ... the ... fu*k" - nice work!

    ReplyDelete
  23. great song. I wish I'd visited earlier and got it before my mile repeats this morning. I didn't have to slow down though. I just started way too damn slow and coaxed myself to speed up!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have only done a speed workout once on a treadmill and I was seriously freaked out. That belt moves pretty freaking fast.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Your holding on is totally not like that other person doing it at all! I mean come on, you were nearly killed by the crazy treadmill. I saw video!!! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I like the song, adding it to my iPod tonight, cause I also get sick of the songs i really like!

  27. Treadmills freak me out.

Bikram Yoga? Don't judge it by how you feel the first few classes (nauseated? tired? overwhelmed? klutzy?) -- these all get better once you get used to the heat and exertion. Well, the klutzy doesn't get any better, really, but the tiredness and nausea go away after 3-4 classes and then, watch out, you may be addicted . . .
