Living The Big Time

I’ve had a crazy past 12 hours.

Last night, daughter Emma and I headed down to Denver for the Taylor Swift concert:

I had to sell my body for these tickets. They sold out in about a half a second back in April. They were Emma's tenth birthday present, and tonight they finally paid off.

We took along Emma’s best friend and my friend Erika. People probably thought we were two lesbian moms out with our girls.P1110067

Taylor puts on a good show, I will say that. As a mom, I dig TS because she is a decent role model for Emma. She speaks/writes from the heart. She is close to her own mom. She doesn’t promote herself with sexuality or promiscuity. She seems grounded despite her oodles of fame.

But, by far the best part of the night was knowing that Emma was making lifelong memories at every moment and I got to be a part of that.  She gets so mad when she notices that I am crying during these moments because, “C’mon mom it’s just a concert,” but to me it represents a snippet of my life with my little girl. A time that is fleeting. This was one of the highlights of her life so far outside of coming out of my body (which she remembers every moment of) and zip lining in Costa Rica.

We got home at about midnight. I slept for four hours then got up and headed back to Denver to do a spot on 9news about the Skirt Chaser 5K this weekend. Founder, Nicole DeBoom was interviewed about Skirt Sports and the race, and the rest of us got to  model (and take home) clothes. My tank has a “cleavage alley” pocket in it where you can hide lip gloss, keys, tampons, condoms. I probably need more of a “flatlands alley” in my tank, but that’s okay.

Here’s me in the “green room” trying on my stuff. It’s not very green and there was no fruit or muffins or Oprah. If I look tired and menstrual, that because I AM! I didn’t even shower before my tv debut:

I am not sure what is so funny, but must have to do with my cleavage. How do I bend my leg back that far?

My outfit is part of the new fall line. Gym Girl Ultra in Red Kiss ($65) and Wonder Girl Tank in the Red Kiss Play Print ($55). The color in real life is much more of a pretty wine red, not so bright like here.

  4. Glad to hear I am not the only one who tears up randomly when with my kids. (especially cool when they give me the look of .."wtf again?"...love them!)

Great outfits...if any one needs a model with no muscle definition and some hail damage looking knees I am the one for the role...I want some free stuff too!

  5. What a fun 12 hours! Susie seems like a neat lady, fun to meet her. LOVE your outfit, looks good on you.

And sounds like a good concert memory!! And you all should have gotten a hotel room downtown, saved 2 hours of driving in your 12 hours. Plus going to Channel 9 would have been educational for the girls and they would have only been a bit late to school. Next concert!!

  18. So far my kids haven't "caught" me crying in some of those "memory making" moments. It reminds us that we should make more of those moments happen! Love both outfits. Cool!

  21. I agree with everyone who said you look great!

You're amazing. Really. How do you do it?! Not only are you so passionate about running and sharing with people. But you get media recognition and endorsements.

When are you going to put out a book, quit your day job and go on tour giving lectures and sponsoring events?!

Whenever you do, sign me up!

  23. I love Skirt Sports skirts! They are the only skirt I run in! That outfit looks great on you!
I am sure that the concert (with her mom) will be a memory that Emma will always cherish.

  24. I, too, think Taylor Swift is a great example for young girls - she handled herself well and she also seems to never forget that it's ordinary folks (of which even famous people really are) who got her where she is. In other words, she always credits her fans which is sweet AND smart.

Part 2: I think those photos exhibit a couple of great points - those running outfits are perfect for you no matter what your height and runners come in all shapes and sizes (maybe that was the point?). Excellent!

  25. You look super great and how fun to be on the spotlight for Channel 9 News!! You are totally famous, Beth :).

I've met Dimity a few times (my daughter actually used to babysit for her a few times) ... she IS tall. But so nice!

  26. Awesome - Costco really does have some good pieces at times, I'm never surprised when I hear an article I like might come from there.

  27. How does that leg not snap in half? That is waaayyyy back there.

Look at you going all famous on us. I need to do something to catch up so you don't forget the little guy....just farted!

  28. That amazon woman's legs are as high as your boobs!?

  35. You and your daughter look adorable - glad to hear she liked the concert. TS had to cancel her concert here due to illness. Devastated 10 and 11 year olds across the tri-state area. Love the workout gear as well - very cute!
