The Big Time

Whatever you do, do not be jealous of how I looked this morning as I made my way to the bike trainer in my sassy Shut Up and Run headband from Goheadband. I know, I look a bit like a chemo patient and I can never decide if the ears go in or out. So they’re in:

If you look closely, you will see I even have a cold sore, so if you wanted to make out with me, I can’t do it today, I’m oozing:

P1080767

That’s sick! And not sick like really cool, but sick like gross and wrong.

Something unexpected happened the other day. Between bouts of licking myself like a cat and hanging with the pussy posse I got a surprising email from a writer at Runner’s World. “I’d like to talk to you for a story.”

That’s right. I said, Runner’s World. I have arrived.

I tried to act all cool and nonchalant while I fell over myself trying to respond. “Well, I’m kind of busy not running and baking cakes with phallic bananas, but maybe I can find the time.”

The story, more specifically, is the one being written about the Boston Marathon obsession. Why people care. Why it sold out in five hours. Why it’s become the holy grail amongst runners.

While I can only speak for myself and why Boston enticed and intrigued me with its stunning blue jacket and qualifying times (see HERE), it will be interesting to see why it draws in other people. Bucket list item? Just the experience? Proof that you have arrived as a runner?

The interview lasted an hour. I’ve been told I’m in the first draft of the story, but it’s quite possible I’ll be nixed in the editing process and won't be in the article at all. Still, it was an honor to be considered by the big RW.

The article is due to publish in the May edition, which means it will be out in early April, right before “the Boston.”  Look for a possible mention of SUAR in those glossy pages, but I can’t promise It’ll be there.

I’ve cleaned up, but am still in need of a good conditioner and moisturizer. I’m out to grab some coffee. Happy Tuesday.

My friend was in this months issue. RW photographers came and took pics and all that stuff of our running group Run to Remember. It was an awesome experience.

  10. You get more famous every single day, I tell ya!

Soon you won't even have time for us out here in the regular old boring world. You'll be too busy running around and laughing with all those Runner's World gods.

Oh I am kidding, this is AWESOME! YOU HAVE ARRIVED. Actually, I think you did that a very long time ago. This is just more sweetness to add to your list of things to brag about :) I hope they don't cut you.

  15. Oooh...maybe Dean recommended you for the article because they asked him who would be the craziest person they could interview? I am with JenniferLeah...if you make the cut you need to autograph the article for your blog readers. That is AMAZING! Neither Dean nor RW will be calling me anytime soon. YOU ROCK! And I like the rocking Skirt Sports shirt you are wearing. That one is so pretty!

  26. You are seriously becoming a rockstar ... Athleta and now Runners World. What! What! Congrats!

BTW .. that cold sore is gross. Thanks for sharing. :)

  29. Wicked awesome about the Runner's World article! Congrats!
And you need some Herpecin for that thing...haha! Why in the world would a company put the word Herpes in their product name?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Man your stairs are clean! Ours are almost always an obstacle course of crap that the kids (and parents) throw on there because we don't know what to do with it. Very dangerous...

    I'm jealous.

And good luck with the RW article! Hope it works out for you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's about damn time (the RW interview, not the cleaned up look...HA!!)

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Very impressive. I hope you make the cut!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I hope you make the final cut...love reading your blog posts..

  34. Ears in/out? Depends.

Ears in when: it's cold or you need to lower your drag coefficient.

Ears out when: your wearing glasses, headphones, or storing your cigarette

Aren't you glad we live in a free country?

Congrats on the RW gig. Whether its true or not, I'll be wistfully saying "I knew her when..."

    ReplyDelete
  35. Dude. This is shaping up to be quite a year for you already. Congrats on the RW interview. This has to be a good omen for The Boston.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congrats on the interview! Ears- in or out? I say if it's cold- ears in, if it's hot- ears out. I don't know. Now this is really bothering me. I want the headband, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to know what to do about the ears. I think there needs to be a consensus about this.

    ReplyDelete
  37. SO totally awesome - good for you! I am so happy for you and keep us posted on if you make it in (which I am sure you will!) Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Chris K from BQ or Die was also asked. But I think that they wanted him to serve as a warning to others.

    ReplyDelete
  39. They bait you with the story about the 'Boston Marathon', and next thing you know you're featured in the story about using tree stumps as bathrooms. Reminds me of how those tricky bastards at Cat Fancy roped me in.

Seriously .... very, very cool. You are an inspiration to many.

    ReplyDelete
  40. this is great! can I have your autograph now before you become way too famous to say yes!?!!
cannot wait to read the article, you better be in it!
thank you for you kind comment yesterday
I appreciate it a lot. Really.

oh and ears in for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  41. omg that's amazing! i can brag and tell everyone i know you.

and ears tucked in. bc it keeps them warm.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Congratulations on the interview. Seriously, that is not a small thing.

I do ears out, but I live in SoCal. Every body's ears are out. Mine says "Run, Eat, Repeat". Love it! I even got the SUAR discount and I asked her if she would make one that says "Because I Can" and she said she would consider it.

Next time, try Tea Tree Oil, Forces of Nature H-Balm and Zovirax for the cold when you feel that first sting. It won't even break the surface.

    ReplyDelete
  43. OMG Beth, how very cool! I am sure you rocked that interview. Fingers crossed!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow, you have arrived! Apparently Runner's World wasn't turned off by your bad hair and skin (sarcasm). Hope to see you in the issue!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Awesome!!! Way to go! I knew there was something cool about ya when I ordererd 3 SUAR stckers last week! They better have you in the article!

So glad I live in the Boston area so I can see "the Boston" as a spectator!

My vote is ears out (unless it's wicked cold)!

    ReplyDelete
  46. That's awesome!!!! I will scan the pages eagerly looking for SUAR!

    ReplyDelete
  47. No F'N way about the RW....I guess that great word I put in about SBD's with Bart Yasoo actually paid off.

So does Dean put up a pic of you when you hit the glossy pages? Preferably the one in your swim gear and he says....'I got to run with her and would do it again'

And seriously that pic gets me everytime. I laugh not at the white underwear but at the face and swimcap/goggles and how serious you look. LOL!!!!! I am cracking up over here.

    ReplyDelete
  48. an hour's worth of interview and end up on the cutting room floor...i doubt it!! and BTW, i can handle pics of your phallic cake, but that crusty fever blister draws the line. im a nurse and that even grosses me out LOL. when you find some good conditioner let me know, my hair is looking scare crowish since you made me get in the damned pool! :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Your hair looks silky smooth and your skin looks radiant, anonymous commentors (is that a word?) can shove it! Congrats on the article! That's so exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Excellent!! I will look for SUAR!! That top in the last photo is really cute:)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Congrats! Can't wait to read it.

  53. woot woot! cant wait to read!!! :)

  54. Nice 'cold sore'... If it wasn't for your white teeth, I would have thought I was looking at another part of your body. LOL. I read RW, will be looking for ya.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Congrats about RW...that's awesome, just like you!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I would not only pee myself, but probably shat myself too if RW ever came a callin.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wow, RW that is totally awesome, can't wait to read it. They better not cut you out!

Try Lysine cream (from health food stores)for that cold sore. I use it as soon as I get that tingly lip feeling and it's gone by the next day, haven't had a full-on cold sore in years now.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Was it a guy name George? I talked to him for an hour too on Saturday. I'm not joking. I'm hoping that I can call him back and let him know that I need to be put in your group, the one's who DID qualify.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Cold sores and runners world! You crack me up :)

    Congrats on the interview!

    ReplyDelete
  60. This is really cool Beth. Arrived you have! I was just thinking this weekend about how cool it would be to make it on the cover of RW...ha ha...or even have my name somewhere on the many pages!! :) Hope you get in!

    ReplyDelete
  61. oh, and I have watched the Eating video and was going to write about it today but might save it for a blog of its own. It was okay...the man narrating it sounded a little monotone and was a bit dramatic but overall...made me think that that is important. I LOVED getting a card from you and now that I have your address, WATCH out...I might come to visit you when I come for a visit to Colorado. I'll knock before coming in though...don't worry. I'll probably catch you conditioning your hair or something. :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Now I know you are my lost "soul sister" - a gruesome cold sore has marked every event in my life-from proms on.... Good news - they do "burn out" as we get older- REALLY!! In the meantime - here is an old wife's tale that I now know you have the gross humor to love : according to my aunts: rub some ear wax on it the minute you feel the "tingle". I won't admit to whether it works or not! Many congrats on the Runner's World interview - your ability to share YOUR world is unique.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You had already arrived. But still really cool.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes, you have arrived! That is so very cool! And I love your headband! Perfect for the bike, no wet strands of hair slapping you in the face! I hope all goes well and you'll get to run Boston and get that pretty blue jacket.
