No More Custom Jeans

Just got back from my Cortisone injection. By the way, “high hamstring” means lower ass. I always think it’s funny when you go the doctor. You get very intimate very fast. In my case, I had never met the guy and five minutes after getting there I was bare ass up on the table and he was pushing and prodding my butt, trying to find the sore spot. I asked for a cigarette.

Here is the pre shot set up, very simple indeed:

P1110315

He poked in and out (TWSS) looking for where to do the injection, but  never hit a spot that was especially sore. WTF? I mean I’ve been dealing with this pain for awhile now and why when someone pushes the hell out of it, do I not feel anything? Am I lying? Making this up? Maybe I have some sort of disorder where I just want attention from doctors. Lord knows I’ve seen enough of them this year.

The shot itself was not too painful except when he hit the bone (sorry, I know that made you cringe). However, at this moment in time I am very sore. Time will tell if it works or not. I am not expecting a miracle, but I am hoping for enough relief that I can start working on getting the area stronger again.

Your insights about strength training on my last post were very helpful. I am resigned to the fact that building strength will become a part of my repertoire from here on out. It just has to be.

In other news, my phone interview with this dude went well today:

There were about four bloggers on the line, and we each got about ten minutes to ask Apolo and his coach about his training and upcoming marathon on Sunday in NYC.

I’ll post the full interview tomorrow, but a couple of teasers:

  • His goal is to finish in around 3:30
  • He has run 700 miles since he started training for the marathon
  • His quads have gotten smaller since he started running and he now does not have to buy custom made jeans (I mean, seriously, look at those bitches):

  • He loves me and asked if we could hold hands and speed skate together, but I told him I just had a Cortisone shot and am a bit sore.

Who is your fitness idol? I am on the fence. But I like the legs above. A lot. I also like Dolvett.

On a closing note, my impression of this week’s Biggest Loser (spoiler alert):

  1. Ramon likes Jess more than she likes him
  2. I don’t know why Dolvett’s team isn’t losing more weight
  3. Bonnie cries too much and I wish she would have gone home before Jess
  4. Anna’s team got results this week but I’m still not a huge fan
  5. Bob’s hair is not growing on me
  6. I about died when Vinny did that move where he flopped on his stomach. I’m sure he broke five ribs if that is possible to do through all of that extra fat
  7. Chocolate gravy is the most disgusting food I’ve ever heard of. Isn’t it just Hershey’s syrup?

Sorry for any typos. In a hurry to get to a meeting. More tomorrow.

  1. Wowee, wow, nice picture :-) I do hope the cortisone shot gives you relief, I'm just not thinking clearly after drooling over Apolo!

  2. All of your points on BL are dead on.

My fitness hero would be Anna.....ha j/k.

If you've got abs and are lean then that is what I would want to look like.

  3. Oh man, I would've peed myself looking at that big ass needle. You're a tough woman.

  4. My random notes on your random notes:
    1. I with Bob would cut his hair!
    and
    2. Chocolate gravy is gross -- it's some family tradition in my husband's family that you have it on Christmas Day with biscuits. But no way is as good as chocolate syrup...even our kids don't like it. It's like very very bland chocolate...on a biscuit. Give me a donut any day.

  5. Personally I liked that the cut-shots always made it look like the trainers were pissed that contestants were losing weight with their new teams. I agree about Bonnie - her sniffling annoys me - and Ramon/Jess. The awkward look she had after he said I love you spoke volumes. I can't wait for the next episode where it looks like he takes personal offence to the others voting her off.

  6. Cortisone shot looks bad…

    Those legs look good…

And you are so on it with poor Ramon. I'm sure she's already making out with some new dude in her home town while she's the love of his life and he is pining away…

Oh, and yeah. Bonnie is a total pain in the ass.

  7. Fitness idol: Greg Louganis, 1984 olympics. Am I showing my age here??

  8. I'm just going to sit here and stare at that picture and drool ...

  9. Maybe their building more muscle so the loss isn't as noticeable?

Hope your booty feels great soon :)

  10. Spot on about Biggest Loser. Fitness hero: I went to school with Michael Johnson. I mean the guy is just super fast, and he is a nice guy. Also, I like Michael Phelps because he's just super awesome. And, Dara Torres because she showed you can be great at any age. Hope you get better fast.

  11. I wanted to comment yesterday but full hands never emptied!! I had a cortisone shot in my back at 34 weeks pregnant with thing 2 I have an old Gymnastics injury near my coccyx that flares and it got so bad I could barley move my left leg....I had the first shot and thought I would feel better immediately...I didn't...I went back the next day and had the silly doctor who did not speak much English give me a second one...later that day still no relief...I called my Ob who said "those things take 48-72 to really work!!!" I have not felt pain there in three years now....So give it a few days if it does not take effect right away! Hope you heal fast!! APOLLO is hot!!!

  14. Holy quads.

And I love your reactions to Biggest Loser, mostly because I cannot agree more. Especially about the whole Bonnie thing...

  15. AHHHH, I think this is my very favorite of your posts. You are the most hilarious and Apolo is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, he has been my Olympics crush ever since I saw him on that ice on TV. Love him.

  16. I am a fan of Josh Cox...but Apolo is not looking too bad, either!! With my high hamstring tendinopathy they can't really find a tender spot when they try, either, but I can sure find it on the foam roller. Ow. Cortisone looks awful, but I'm anxious to hear how you're doing in a few days.

  17. Those legs and arms are pretty nice. but that sole patch has got to go. yuck

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow, that man is beautiful!! Yes, please!

Another random Biggest Loser fact? Every single season is now on netflix streaming! I discovered this today and have decided that I'm going old school, back to season 7 when Tara was around and being such an awesome beast. I'll take Tara re-runs any day over Bonnie sobbing her face off! (Although it is missing Dolvette...)

  19. I missed TBL this week so it was good to get the updates. I had a cortisone injection in my heel (twice) and it was painful for a day and then it was good. Well, not good in that I was heel pain-free, but good in that the point of shot input didn't hurt. I'm babbling...but hope that your lower ass feels great soon!

  20. Ok that chocolate gravy.. NASTY! At first I looked at it and couldn't figure out what the hell it was. YUK!!!

  21. good luck with the shot, i'd say it will definitely give u some relief...i'll be sending my best wishes! :)

i'm jealous u got to talk to him! hotness factor aside, i'd have to say my idols are paula radcliffe, alberto salazar, and mary slaney...i'm a runner geekette. :)

  22. agree w/ you 100% on the BL stuff!!! SOO tired of Bonnie's annoying crackly voice and her incessant CRYING. if these ppl turned 1/2 their tears into anger in the gym, they'd lose more than a measly 7 lbs. ugh. And what is UP w/ Dolvett?? man alive. Bob is just the master, and i think he just KNOWS how diff body types will react? what gives? either way, hope his hot self will return. Aw-nuh is still most annoying. hope she gets the BOOT in the coot! ha

  23. HOLY HELL! That shot looks horrendous!

Oh, and thanks for the pic! HOT HOT HOT!!!

  24. I hate shots, I'm usually good with everything else but something about shots do NOT work for me, I have to look away or I would run lol!

I actually really like Anna but I find her a bit annoying on the show.

I don't have a fitness idol yet, not really anyways. Maybe my dog cause she can run all freaking day and still have energy to bounce around the bloody house lol

    ReplyDelete
  25. My fitness hero is Mark Allen: six-time Ironman Triathon World Champion.
It just doesn't get more awesome than that!

    Peace
    Mike @TheIronYou

  26. The thought of getting that shot gives me the heebies jeebies.

    Egh.

I would hope to never do that ... of course until I get old like you. Then maybe I would have to. LOL!

  27. I really like Apolo as well (great pic BTW), and think he'll do great. Really in awe of Ethan Zohn as well, who, with relapsed hodgkins lymphoma is also running in NY this weekend....that's awesome.

  28. YES I was thinking the same thing re: Ramon & Jess.

    I hope the shot helps!!

  29. I recently got a cortisone shot in my arch for plantar fasciitis and it hurt like a bitch! I usually have a high pain tolerance but you are a badass if that shot didn't hurt much. Mine didn't hurt for long because there was a numbing agent, but while he was injecting it was ridiculous. My hat is off to you!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Seriously you crack me up every time!!! Apollo is such a cutie....his quads are bananas!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. *Cringe* I can't imagine the needle thing. Yikes! I was supposed to have a cortisone shot in my hips (bursitis) but opted for PT instead - which did a lot and also helped in a bunch of other areas which surprised me.

If you know any physical therapists, or any read your blog, ask if there's something specific that you can do to help out with your pain. And then actually TRY it (which is probably what YOU would do, but it took me a few weeks to believe it would help...).

I didn't comment about strength training on your other post, but I have always used resistance bands with a lot of success - We use Bodylastics (Terrell Owens Strongman edition) and I LOVE it - more bang for your buck, I think. Plus they're totally portable if you travel anywhere.

PS I don't watch Biggest Loser but I like knowing what's going on, so thanks for posting about it!

  32. Thinking Bonnie is a game player- not so much a good BL contestant. She can "work" the others. And it's the age thing- Not too many in that age group left. If you are playing to win, Jess was more of a threat. But I also agree- goodbye Bonnie.
Hope your shot gives you the relief you are looking for!

  33. You always post great stuff but this might be my all time favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have loved Apolo since his first Olympics! He seems like a really nice guy. Too bad I could just about be his mom.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I thought every one of those things while watching BL.

Hope that pain goes away soon!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Um....Thank you...Thank you....Thank you!!! Thats all I can say after looking at the picture you posted for us of Apolo! I love him!Cant wait to hear you interview! And again ...Thank you!

  37. I know exactly how your hamstring/butt connector feels. I have the same thing, but is not to the extent of yours. Tons of sitting, give it a restless hurting feeling so I sit on a tennis ball sometime.

I am glad to know someone poops and farts as much as I do

  39. Wow, check out those legs! I agree that strength training is important but I just hate it so much. I keep trying to convince my brain that it is NOT a waste of time. hope that shot helps!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I totally agree with all of your Biggest Loser comments! I HATE Bob's hair. Dolvett is awesome, yet his team weigh losses have been less than stellar. Anna is growing on me, I hated her before but now I'm just, eh, her team's weigh ins are usually good though. Ramon is totally more into Jess than she is him! Chocolate gravy looks horrible!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ramon likes Jess WAY more than she likes him! I couldn't believe he kept saying he was going to marry her. Little soon there buddy. And I'm angry that Bonnie is still there and Jess isn't. All Bonnie does is cry. It's very annoying. And Vinny doing the worm was about the best thing I've seen on BL, that was AWESOME.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm super jealous!! I've always loved Apolo and the fact that were the same age is even better!! Hint hint *wink*wink*

Just kidding but he is pretty awesome though and that needle would have made me cry. You're one tough lady.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't usually comment, but I have to clear up the chocolate gravy misconception. I am from the South (Texas) and we know how to do chocolate gravy right! It's pretty much milk, sugar and cocoa powder, mixed together w/ some flour, then butter melted in (all made on the stovetop just like other gravy). Definitely not just Hershey's syrup... it's delicious but oh so bad for you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Chocolate gravy is one of the best things ever! It's like chocolate pudding and when it goes over biscuits you are eating a starving college kid's idea of heaven! Must try it!
