A Reminder

Sometimes we’re hard on ourselves. Sometimes we don’t know our own worth or strength. That’s why friends exist. To remind us when we cannot remind ourselves.

I got an email this morning from an incredible dear friend. Simply, it reads:

“You are amazing and tough and cool and fun and beautiful and solid and ready.  Ready for all that Life is presenting you right now.  The race.  The uncertainty.  The dynamics.  The questions.  The challenges.  You train hard for everything - life and running and swimming and riding and being a wonderful wife mother daughter sister and friend.  Your training serves you well because it prepares you to be there.

But you have everything you need for all of this.  You have always been ready.  Always have always had the magic, the focus, the spirit to face and finish and conquer Everything.

Your spirit inspires all of us lucky to know you.  We come to rely on that.  You are life-giving.  For the next days change a little and receive.  Be on the other end.  Give only to yourself to fuel and rest and prepare and fill yourself so that on Sunday you are with you.  I am always.

I love you, my friend.  I am proud of you and know you have this all of it - the mettle, the moxie, the style, the guts, the strength and the heart for all of it.”

She is right. I have always been ready. All of us have always been ready, if we can just get behind ourselves and believe it.

Then, when we meet our goal, we can sit back and remind ourselves that there never was a reason to question or to be unsure.

So, if you’re uncertain today about being “enough,” remind yourself that you’ve got what it takes. Believe.

  2. So very true. Why is it so easy to see the inspiraton and strength in others but so very difficult to believe in yourself the same way? Thanks for the post and reminding all of us to step out and look at ourselves once in awhile and recognize our own value.

  9. We all need someone like that in our corner. I only "know" you from your posts and I can tell she's spot-on in her assessment of your drive and ability. It's hard to fake that kind of tenacity, you know. You will rock this Ironman. Can't wait to read the 1st post from you afterwards.

Kick ass, Beth. Donuts will be waiting for you when you're done. (Though I still recommend fritters).

  26. Found out this morning that my ankle is fractured. What inspiring words just when I needed it. It'll be a road to recovery and swtiching out my exercise routine from what I love most- my early mornings on the road to swimming and biking. I feel I may learn new things as well.
You have trained and are ready..and you have a great friend.
