Nuts, Buds and Bags

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while – the ones where I talk about stuff that makes me happy, makes me drool, makes me on the edge of orgasmic. In the blog world this is called  “Favorite Things” post. Mostly I’ve not done these posts because I don’t know if anyone gives a crap what my favorite things are. But, I actually really like seeing what other people’s favorite things are, so screw it, here goes. And, no one even had to pay me or give me anything to say these nice things.

So, voila! (I am so multi-lingual). Below is a bunch of randomness that I’m into right now. You may love this stuff too or you may leave comments telling me I am wrong. So be it.

I love…

1. Not having my ear buds fall out. Yurbuds are my most favorite ear bud. I lost my two-year-old pair during the chaos of the Las Vegas Rock and Roll race. Got some new ones for my birthday:

2. Glowing in the dark and attracting moths while cycling. I got this Pearl Izumi jacket (also for my birthday):

3. Eating high fat, down home food. I mostly cook light, but I can appreciate throwing a few sticks of butter into my food on occasion. I like this book because it gives recipe for some basic favorites like cinnamon rolls, pot roast, and macaroni and cheese. This weekend I made the Marlboro Man’s Favorite Sandwich (no cigarette butts included) and the Chicken Spaghetti. Both pretty good.  Photos in the book are gorgeous.

4. Using a ball as a chair. My lower back has been bugging me after sitting in my regularly cushy desk chair. I’m switching out for a bit to see if this helps. I told you I was old. Feel free to tell me how gorgeous I look in this picture:

5. Making a crumbly mess (these are worse than Nature Valley Granola Bars), If you haven’t tried these you should. Yes, they may be high in fat, but I love fat and the fat comes from good stuff like nuts, seeds and berries. Makes for interesting poops as well.

6. Reading a passage a day because it makes me really enlightened and wise:

7. Remembering what it was like to live in the 70s, although I don't think this swanky party mix existed then. Or maybe it did and I was too busy watching Charlie’s Angels to remember:

8. Donating crap to Goodwill because it’s the right thing to do, it clears out your closet and you get a deduction. Plus, I always feel like I can go shopping after I get rid of a bunch of stuff.

It would be nice to have ten things I love, but there aren’t and I don’t want to come up with two more things just for the hell of it. If I wanted, I could add in rainbows and rain drops on roses, but I won’t.

I’m off to boot camp and then a very full day of home visits that will take me to Denver, then back up north to Fort Collins. Lots of driving and only 20 minutes left of my cell phone minutes. See you tomorrow.

Any of these things resonate with you?

What’s one favorite thing going on for you this week?

  1. I love getting rid of stuff. The best feeling. I do not love beer nuts, however. Made me laugh seeing that picture!

Finally--I have probably told you this, but I stand at my desk these days and it makes my body feel so much better than it used to sitting.

  3. Taper week, and I slept in this morning. Yah!

    1. Yes, these things are made of a material that keeps them in place. I seriously love them.

  5. I have never seen ear buds like that. My favorite pair of ear buds broke and now only one side works. I need to get new ones so I will have to check those out! I love to donate! It feels so good to pack up stuff we don't use and give to those who need it. Favorite thing this week is that I can use my new Garmin Forerunner 110 for the first time! Just got it this weekend! So excited!

  6. I love sleeping in, cycling socks by The Sock Guy, wearing my boyfriend's Pajama bottoms, McDonald's diet coke with extra ice (although I'm working on kicking this habit), the Grid roller (well, love and hate). Need to try the ball chair. Thanks for the reminder :).

    1. For recording yourself singing and then sending it on to American Idol I guess. Seriously, I have no clue. I think it's the volume control.

  8. Lots of good stuff Beth! I adore my yurbuds too. I just bagged a bunch of stuff to donate to Goodwill last night, feels so great. I need to find those granola bars and that beer nut mix, yum!! Also, I have a crush on The Pioneer Woman, read her book, watch her show and I make some of her recipes, her homemade green bean casserole is outstanding!

  9. I sweat while working out....really sweat...and my ear buds fall out a lot!! So these will take care of that? (because I think mine fall out when it gets all wet and sweaty in my ear and then the jumping up and down of the running ...yea you get the pic?)

    1. I don't know, I've always had good luck, but I don't sweat buckets. Just shot glasses.

  10. Balls on chairs: my 2nd graders use those if they have ADHD. Then I just end up having a bunch of bouncy, bobble-head kids in the clasroom. I tend to bounce on them too...

  11. I've read in many places that the ball-sitting is actually not healthy for the back. Ergonomic chairs are the (expensive) way to go.

    1. Maybe so. It feels really good though.

    2. Yeah, my chiro told me to only use it for an hour a day or less.

First time to your blog, love your enthusiasm and poop banter! lol.

Also? I covet your earbuds. Nothing pisses me off more when my arm accidentally yanks out my headphones, also hurting my piercing.

    3. If it doesn't cause chafing, you can run the headphone cord through the neck of your shirt & under the fabric - lots less likely to catch on anything. :)

  12. I love cleaning out the closets and getting rid of stuff. It feels so freeing.
This weekend I was just whining about my ear buds are always falling out. Annoying. I will have to check those yurbuds out, I've heard a lot about them.

  13. I think I need to get on the Yurbuds train. I've read so many good reviews, and now I see them everywhere. Your may be the final endorsement that get me on-board. Hopefully there's no connection to having to make frequent pit-stops while running.

If anything sitting or chair-related for me involves balls, then I've done something very, very wrong, and will probably be headed for the doctor.

  14. I love donating clothes (and stuff) to Good Will! Helps clear out the excess and goes to a good cause. Two thumbs up!

  15. I am a weirdo that sits on a ball at work too. People think I am a freak, but it's tremendously helped my back and pelvis after it separated during my second pregnancy (yes---I said separated). Glad to know there are other, like-minded folks out there with me.

  16. I love those Trio bars.....I haven't picked them up from Costco for a while - thanks for the reminder! I don't sit at a ball at work, but I did recently get my desk raised so I can stand and work.

  17. Keep the favorites lists coming. I love reading others' favorites & discovering new stuff that I think I need. I'd love to try those ear buds. I have yet to find any that I love. Your new jacket is awesome. I bought a similar one by Nike at TJMaxx so I wouldn't get run over on my pre-dawn runs. As an added bonus I found out it's great for runs in the rain.
Every time I see an exercise ball like that I picture Dwight Schrute sitting on one at his desk and it cracks me up.

  18. You are so awesome and funny...you manage to make your favorite crap post amazingly ridiculous! :)

  19. Hey! I care. I saw those Yourbuds at target ans I was wondering if they were worth getting, so thanks for the heads up. Now I just need the money to buy them

  20. I'm always happy when I can purge stuff from my closets - I need to do it again in fact!

I'm reading the Mark Nepo too and am enjoying it!

  21. I'm dying to try those earbuds, but the scary thing looks like it goes halfway through your head. eeks.

  22. Purging clothes and items is the best. Your stability ball is a great idea--kind of want one for my office--I slouch horribly at work!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love (want) the running jacket! Most of my outdoor running clothes are black, so I wear so many lights I look like a Christmas tree! I think this jacket would help me to tone that down!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I need to get one of those jackets!!

  25. I read quite a few running blogs because I seem to be addicted to all things running lately. Because I am a Mom and I am busy most days, I fall behind on reading most of them...except yours. Your blog is by far my favorite. You are so funny...and sometimes informative :-) Thanks for the smiles!

  26. I care about your favorite things. Thanks for sharing. I'm in love with my new running pants/tights (?? not sure of the technical term). I have steered clear of them because I'm bashful about showing all my goodies but I got a pair and love them! I'm gonna save my pennies and get another pair.

From a Goodwill employee, thank you all! It really is a good cause.

  27. I know most people think of those balls as 'yoga balls'...but I always think 'birthing balls.' Seeing someone sitting on one reminds me of being in labor!

A favorite thing going on for me this week? I would have to say school starting again after a 10-day break...yay! Just getting to hang out with my littlest :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have the ear buds and love them. Also was just thinking about buying a ball for my office chair in hopes it helps strengthen my core a bit too.

  29. Pioneer Woman is the best!!! I don't have her cookbook but I'm always stalking her site for posts and recipes.

I know my newest favourite thing this week will be going to Maui. I don't even have to experience yet to know it will be my new favourite.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah for ear plugs that don't fall out...and you do look pretty sweet sitting on the ball like you're on top of the world! My favorite things are those that make me "glow" in the dark as well...or shine or flash (I'm a bit like a Christmas tree when I leave for me pre-dawn runs or bike rides).

    ReplyDelete
  31. I need ear buds that don't fall out. I solve the problem by strapping them to my head with my Bondi Band (which I use ALWAYS anyhow...guess that's one of my favorite things). I also like: Potty chairs that tell my girl she's a "princess", Hungry Girl flatbreads, chianti, and this blog...not in that particular order on any given day.

    1. I do the SAME with my bondi bands - keeps those ear buds in...though in the hot weather it would be nice if they'd stay in without the bondi band!

  32. Sooooo happy to hear a review of the Yurbuds! Been on the fence whether or not to spend the money on them. I think I'll give them a try now!

  33. I keep looking at Yurbuds and wondering if they are worth it, maybe I'll invest; I hate having my ear buds fall out, too. I can relate to so many of your favorite things; I do love purging my closet and giving things to Goodwill as it becomes an excuse to go shopping (another favorite thing). I cracked up at the picture of you sitting on the ball as I'm doing the same thing at the moment. Don't know if it really helps the back or not, but it does at least make sure I stay awake (or wake up when I fall off).

  34. I love these nuts:

    Almonds are healthy, right?!

  35. As far as gear goes, I get excited about my Knuckle Lights (I got yellow). Will look into the Yurbuds, I'll need something a little better than what I have for marathon training. As far as general things that make me happy, it's having a clean kitchen counter. I seriously feel zen-like when my counter is clean and decluttered. Like - have a glass of wine to celebrate kind of happy.

  36. I've always wanted some Yurbuds! I had forgotten about Trio bars...yum!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Definitely the Good Will part: As much as I'd love to say I do it from some altruistic motive to clothe all the clothe-less people on Earth, I do it mostly because it feels good to purge my closet and dresser and I'm too lazy to hold a yard sale.

I'm enjoying two of my favorite things right now: a day off and a 4PM beer.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We cleaned closets this weekend, too. Make $52 at Platos Closet then donated the rest to GoodWill. Felt so good to purge all the old crap out!

Are the winds blowing 4069mph as you drive all over Colorado? Wow is it windy here today!

  39. Beer nuts....LOL LOL LOL. Haven't had those in t along time! I love cleaning out closets and donating, but haven't done that in a while. You DO look so cute sitting on your ball at your computer!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh my -- love Ree Drummond! Go to her site and search for Pig Cake.
    Un-be-liev-able! Seriously yum.

OK -- you nearly had me with the new label on the Nature Valley Granola bar..... :-)

  41. Beer Nuts now comes in a party mix?? How did I not know this??

  42. I LOVE my Yurbuds. I'm on my 2nd pair, too :) But mine are the blue ones, not the pretty red ones.

  44. The Yurbuds look really cool. I've never seen them before. I'm going to have to check them out. My friend also recommended the Book of Awakenings.

  45. LOVE my Yurbuds!!! Another favorite running thing is Kiehl's Cross Terrain for slathering on my face while running in cold weather. Thanks for the tips.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I LOVE yurbuds! They are, by far, the best!
I've always wanted a ball chair...I might have to finally get one!
