My oldest, Mr. Sam, is having surgery today. It is nothing serious, just an outpatient procedure, but he will be under general anesthesia. Surgery is surgery and when it happens to a loved one, especially a child of yours, it’s unsettling.
In other words, Sam could care less, but I am a bit on edge. I told him he could ask the doctors any questions he wanted. He said he just wants to ask the anesthesiologist what he/she makes per year. He would also like to tell the doctor to not fall asleep during the procedure.
Fair enough.

Off to the hospital in Denver. I will keep my thoughts and my son in the sunlight.
SUAR
I hope all goes well and that your joyful boy is ready to celebrate by this weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest (10) son just had an outpatient surgery on Friday which also required general anesthesia. I totally know what you mean. The anesthesia was my biggest worry considering the surgery itself was very minor. Best of luck to your son! My son is now recovering very well and I hope the same for yours.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes today to both you and Sam! My daughter had to have surgery when she was 3 months old, and handing her over to the surgeon was still one of the most gut-wrenching moments of my life. Of course, everything turned out perfectly, as I'm sure it will for your son. Positive thoughts! You guys will be back home again laughing and cracking fart jokes before you know it.
ReplyDeleteWill be thinking about you guys!
ReplyDeleteI am sending prayers your way.
ReplyDeleteThinking about you both!
ReplyDeleteSaying a prayer for you guys this morning. Praying all goes well. My youngest has had three surgeries, one took almost three hours, and I was a basket case the entire time. It's so hard when it's YOUR BABY! Take a deep breath. Everything will be okay!!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck. Everything will be fine.
ReplyDeleteOh and tell him that I would want to ask the same question. The answer is a LOT! About $250k a year or more (salary.com) :-)
Sending good thoughts to you all today!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a tough time for a parent. Prayers heading your way. No, that't not right. Prayers are heading upward, but the general gist is toward your way. As in, I'm praying to God, not to you. Just about you. Got it? Cool.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and Sam, and wishing you the best, Beth! Happy happy holidays.
ReplyDeleteOOPS--I was logged in as my husband--that comment from David should have been from Wendy. ; )
ReplyDeleteIsn't he a little young to be getting snipped? Or are you taking the long view and heading off trouble? Hope it goes well.
ReplyDeleteDitto what Gracie said.
ReplyDeleteBIG HUG.
I have been there. MY youngest had surgery last year. He was 4. It was nothing serious but he went under GA also. I had 4 surgeries myself and his was the worst for me as far as anxiety goes. When the Dr came to ask if I had question I took his arm and looked him straight in the eyes and I just said " you better make sure he wakes up after this"
ReplyDeleteand he did.
All will be well for Sam.
You are a great mom Beth.
Merry Christmas
((HUGS)) As moms, we always worry. Many prayers for his uneventful surgery (without a snooze for the dr - ha) and speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs! So hard to see our kids get surgery. Prayers for a successful operation and speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteSounds like he has your sense of humor! Sending best wishes your way!
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and wishing a speedy recovery for your boy. Sending sunshine from Hawaii...
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Sam is quite relaxed about the whole thing. Good for him. But a parent will always worry no matter how minor the visit to the doctor's office is.
ReplyDeleteLet us know how it goes!
It's so funny how our perspective changes with years (and having kids of our own). I had my tonsels out when I was 9 and I remember being nervous because they told me the anesthesia would make me throw up and I had a bigger fear of that than the surgery itself. Now, I know if it were my child, I'd be a wreck. So I hope everything goes smoothly and your worries are put at ease!
ReplyDeletehope all goes well!! i know the feeling. my lil girl had surgery when she was almost 2.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the anxiety about it, no matter how minor. I'm pulling for an easy day on both of you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck today. I'll say a little prayer for him. My son 13 yrs old, has been passing out. Last night he fell behind the Christmas tree and bonked his head on the wall...poor kid. Been to a few different docs, blood work is good, asthma isn't the problem so today we're off to the pediatric cardiologist. Wish us luck. :(
ReplyDeleteSending good thoughts you and your son's way!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your sweet boy. Of course you're more worried than him -- because you're a great mom! I hope your fears are eased and everything goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and SAm!
ReplyDeleteNone of my girls have been under yet and I can't imagine how scary it will be when it happens, routine or not. Sending good thoughts Sam's way, and calm thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteI'll be anxiously awaiting the "he's recovering well" update!
ReplyDeleteLove Sam's questions! I am trying to figure out a way to pay for surgery for a hip injury that happened last year and has since prevented me from running-I think if I ever come up with a way, I will definitely be asking the anesthesiologist Sam's questions and the doctor too!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a speedy recovery, Sam!
Our best to Sam (and mommy). I totally understand this as my son has had an outpatient surgery and my daughter had major spinal cord surgery. We actually head back to the Children's hospital tomorrow for her annual check up to see that everything is going well!
ReplyDeleteI hope everything went well!!!
ReplyDeleteHope it all went well and heals quickly.
ReplyDeletehope it all went well and that he is on the way to healing.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything went ok. I am sure Sam woke up with his sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteHoosh...best wishes, Beth. I'm sure it'll be fine, but a bit nerve-wracking nonetheless. Congrats on the Athleta gig and let us know how he's doing ok?

ReplyDeleteI hope it's not a tonsillectomy. That would be an awful way to spend Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI hope it all goes well and he heals fast.
