Lucy Hatha Legging Review

Do running tights or leggings look good on anyone?

Recently Lucy Activewear  sent me a pair of their tights/leggings to try. I have been a fan of Lucy for a long time – but to be honest, I didn’t have any of their active wear. Up to this point, I owned some of their everyday items like this wear-anywhere-shirt (doesn’t wrinkle; totally awesome for travel):

And, a shirt/jacket (not the exact one I have, don’t think they sell it anymore!):

Awesome, quality stuff.

These leggings are multipurpose -  for any kind of workout, from running to yoga. The day I wore them it was cold out – about 25 degrees. The tights seem lightweight, so I was worried my legs might be cold, but they weren’t. The tights are true to size (following Lucy’s size chart), but being a compression item, you can expect them to be tight. The material, made of mostly nylon with some lycra thrown in, is extremely soft and stretchy. The fabric is called Powermax, which allows for maximum compression and moisture management.

I don’t know about you, but some tights can be very restrictive. These are not that way and allowed for easy and comfortable movement. As with all Lucy clothing, the quality is exceptional.

Because these are in essence leggings, not tights, I felt kind of “naked” and was more comfortable wearing shorts over them (my way of saying the girl parts were a bit too outlined for my taste – there’s a name for that that kinda rhymes with “gamble show”).

Be aware that they are not your typical running tight material, and truly do feel more like a legging. That said, many reviewers on the Lucy site used them for running purposes.

Where do you buy your running tights? What is your favorite brand?

Do you own any Lucy apparel?

  2. I Love Lucy! But sadly I don't own any of their clothing. Those tights are adorable. And FYI, maybe I don't look as good in running tights as I think I do, but I feel like they make me look skinnier, so I love them. Am I alone on this?

  3. I love my Moving Comfort Endurance tights. They are super comfy and not too tight. I haven't tried Lucy, but might go check out some of their stuff after your review!

  4. Wow, wish I could look like that in leggings!

Lucy has some really cute things... and that button up shirt you have is adorable.

I have a puffy vest of theirs, a couple pairs of pants, and a purple scarf that goes perfectly with my SUAR long sleeve T.

I wore a pair of Lucy pants this morning for weight lifting... they're a boot cut workout pant and I think I love them.

For running though, I use mostly Lululemon running crops, or shorts if it's a compression-socks day. They stay in place pretty darn well. And this is completely dorky, but I actually look forward to workouts when I know there's a fun outfit to wear for it.

    Yay, clothes!

    :-)

  5. I have a pair of UnderArmour tights I bought last year on sale. They're comfortable, warm enough for running in low temps (I think the coldest I wore them for was in the teens), and the small hole I ripped in them falling on the sidewalk hasn't gotten any bigger. Every time I wear them with one of my cheapie Target tech tops I am reminded that you get what you pay for.

    And no Lucy clothes. :(

  6. Running tights are unattractive by nature, yet essential. Society frowns on us running around naked.

    Silly society.

  7. No lucy clothes for me. My only pair of "tights" are from REI, clearance rack. I've had them for 6 years and they haven't failed me yet.

  8. Recently bought a pair of Under Armor (men's because I'm not as slim as you are and because they were 40% off making them less than half the price of the ones you show here) from my local running store. I dream of the day I could wear running tights as just running tights, but I'm not comfortable enough with my bulges to do so. I will wear something over them that is less form fitting. Truthfully, I haven't checked if they have "gamble show" issues because I really don't foresee wearing them that way anyway. Never tried Lucy anything, but I like the shirt you posted.

  9. I don't own any Lucy, but I like to look in their store window. :)

  11. I don't have an Lucy clothes. I actually wear all Old Navy compression tights and Target tights. I haven't really ever spent a lot of money on running clothes.

  12. Under Armor is the worst quality but I find champion to be the best for me. very durable!

  13. My running tights are from high school (so they are like 20 years old).So I figured it was time for a new pair! I bought the Tough Girl Skirt, from Skirt Sports. They are tights with a built-in skirt! Now I just need to man up and run outside!

  14. Lucy is the SHIT. I have a pair of yoga pants that I bought in 2008. After about a billion wash/dry cycles, there is NO PILING. NONE. Amazing quality.

  15. I dont have any Lucy clothes..because well I did not know about them before coming over here today :)

my tights are under armour and I love them...the lighter ones...not the cold gear line that is too warm for here...

  16. okay, I just got my first ever pair of Lucy pants! Love them!!!

  17. I bought a $12 pair of running tights at Wal-mart last year - of all places! And I love them!

  18. I always go in their store and love to look at their stuff but I have yet to try it. I have a hard time spending that much money on something if I don't know much about them.
I have a pair of New Balance capri tights I like though.

  19. My only pair of tights are from Roadrunner Sports and I really love them! Lucy looks gorgeous but I am not ready for that sort of price commitment. They look great on you and I notice you aren't posed so that we can see your bramble foe.

  20. I have a pair of Louis Garneau tights that I bought 8 years ago. they are still in awesome shape and I love them to death. They are ribbed (tee hee) so help camouflage my lumpy bits.

I think I'd have to pass on the Lucys based on your review.

  21. I love c9 stuff at Target and even some TekGear at Kohl's for my winter stuff. I'm not hard core in the winter so being of the utmost quality and comfort isn't a thing. That being said in the summer and warmer months or when I'm performing I'm a cw-x or SKINS girl all the way

  22. The way you say snug fit makes it sound like a bad thing.

  23. The tights look great on you! I bought my first pair this year. They are Road Runner and I wanted them because they come in 3 different lengths, I am petite. I love them! So much that I bought another pair. They are comfortable and don't give me gamble show. I had a pair of Lucy yoga pants but the always fell down. Boo!

  24. hhaa. took me a few to figure out "gamble show"...hhaaa. Tights are CUTE! i like them! and, Lucy's my dog's name, so they hafta be rad!

  25. Lululemon is my go-to. I am loyal to their running clothes almost to a fault...and they don't come cheap BUT I have yet to throw away any of my Lululemon gear because nothing I own (and I've been giving them money since 2003) has fallen apart! Quality clothing.

I don't own anything from Lucy because they don't ship to Canada (boo).

  26. I wear cw-x and love them. Expensive but worth it!

  27. I live in my Lucy vital pants when I'm not in grown-up clothes for work.

  28. I recently got a pair of Nike Element Shield tights for cold weather and love them so much more than I thought I would. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of CW-X. If it's too cold for skirts, I'm in tights.

  29. I bought a pair of Asics leggings (on Amazon of all places) earlier this year in preparation for Vegas, but never got to train with them because it just doesn't get cold enough in So Cal.

I'm still kicking myself for forgetting to visit the Lucy store when I was up in San Francisco in October for Nike Women's. I think they have a store in Orange County, but I rarely make my way out there.

  30. Gamble toes or gambol toes? And you say they come with the leggings?

    ReplyDelete
  31. i love running tights. after i got over the "hey i look like like a christmas ham stuffed in nylong", i started loving them. i only have a pair of nike ones.

i own a lucy running skirt and thats it but these tights look pretty decent.

  32. I love Road Runner Sports Velocity tights! I have a pair of the capris as well as the long ones. They are affordable. I have worn them for a long time & they haven't stretched out or lost shape. Granted I wash my running clothes with more care than anything else in my wardrobe!

  33. I love my Lululemon tights and capris. I'm Canadian, so it's relatively easy to source Lululemon (and their products are great!), while other brands can be harder to find. Sadly, Lucy doesn't ship to Canada, while Lululemon = free shipping to me!

  34. First off HOLY CRAP $78 LEGGINGS?? Are people high? Got my thick ones at Steve and Barry's for $14 and they work great. The thinner ones I bought at Wal-Mart for $10. Wow...

  35. I have a few lucy attire, mostly for running. I love how they are cute yet functional (love the zipper pockets).

They also make good quality outer jacket/rain jacket.

I am not a running tights person, so I usually buy running crops (I am short anyways, so the crops are like tights).

My favorite pair has been the north face vapor crop/tights I got on a clearance rack at Winners (Canadian Version of Marshall's).

Since then I have gotten spoiled and gotten a few capris and running crops from lululemon (all on sales).

The thing I love about lucy is that the $78 leggings will be $29 in a few months. I love the sales.
    Lululemon only discounts by 15-25%.

As far as wicking ability test - I hand-washed 2 pairs of lulu crops and 2 pairs of lucy crops and hang dry them side by side. both lulu pairs dried first. So lulu wins in that test.

  36. I have these random New Balance tights that I absolutely love. I also love my under armor tights. I pretty much prefer them tight so I'm not pulling them up and adjusting them the entire run. They can be good for compression.

  37. But when life gives you "gamble toes" all you need is the "cuchini"!!! (google cuchini and you shall see)

  38. Champion Mesh Shorts are super comfy and not too tight. I haven't tried Lucy, but might go check out some of their stuff after your review!
