Request

As I was pounding away some tough hill miles on the treadmill today, I got to thinking about what I wanted to say prior to the moment of silence at the Virtual Run for Sherry on Saturday. As always, I do my best and most clear thinking while running. Admittedly, sometimes it’s deep thought and sometimes I’m making grocery lists and trying to get to the bathroom in time.

I have tried to keep this whole thing simple. Pick a day, pick a time, print a bib and GO. I’ve felt as though if this got too complicated the sentiment of the run would be lost. I never wanted to take anything away from Sherry by getting bogged down with details.

That being said, I have a request.

On Saturday, we are running to honor Sherry, her family, her town and our communities. If you have organized a run, consider doing a moment of silence before your run. Simply a brief time to completely STOP. To be together in silence. To think of a beautiful life cut tragically short, a family and community that grieves, and a larger, global community that reaches out in support, comfort and healing.

Thanks. None of this could have happened without you guys.

SUAR

  16. Running alone but know I will not be alone! Will have a crowd of people around me in spirit all running for one reason and that's to let the world know that sherry may not be with us in the physical sence but she will be with us all in a spiritual sence! What an amazing thing to know that people all around the world will be running at the same time for such a great and sad reason!

  18. I will be running for Sherry for sure that morning. I think of her often and I never knew her. I live in a small town in the country and run on my gravel roads and county roads and this tragity really hit home for me. I will take a moment for her for sure! This is an amazing tribute you are doing for her.

  20. My husband and I are running together and we have been talking about Sherry and the whole very sad situation since we first heard about it. I don't think we will ever forget her.

And yes, a moment of silence before we run is the least we can do. Bless you, Beth.

  28. Dear Beth,
My friend and I will be running tomorrow in Houston Tx, and will be wearing our bibs in memory of Sherry. Our thoughts are with you and all of the family.
We have words we often say as we run, especially when its hard going, "one step in front of the other, the world keeps turning" - this will definitely be so when the world is running in honor or Sherry on Saturday. Your love for your family has made this possible Beth, I am quite in awe of you, your strength and life energy! When I run I think of you and Sherry often.
Take care - Nix, Houston, TX

  39. Will definitely do this (and I just made a donation too). My deepest condolences to Sherry's family and friends. I often think ( and talk with) my husband on my runs (he passed away from cancer almost 1 year ago). But today, I will take a moment to remember Sherry and think of her family and friends.
