“Secret Thing”

Suffice it to say everyone has a secret thing (ST) they want to do. Are dying to do. Something that completely deviates from who they are in their “real” life. For some it may be being a clown in the circus, for others it might involve open pole night at the local strip club.

My secret thing involves dancing, preferably on “Dancing with the Stars.” They really need a blogger presence on that show. If you have ever seen me dance then you are lying on the floor right now laughing your ass off about now.

I have no rhythm. I cannot remember steps. My body does not move smoothly through the motions. I have the white-woman’s overbite going like nobody’s business.

In college I had no clue how limited I was in the dance world, so I actually auditioned to be a “Dukette” – a team of amazing and swift dancers who perform at basketball games, festivals, etc. (Okay, those of you who went to JMU, stop laughing). I got cut before the music even started and I’m not kidding. This was also the same year I tried out for the rugby team and I’m not kidding about that either. And my major in college was undeclared, i.e., I have no eff’ing idea what to do. I was one lost soul. Still kind of am.

I am believer that if we put our wishes out into the universe they will come true. Okay, that’s a bunch of shit, but I figure it can’t hurt.

Turns out my dancing wishes have come true and I’ve been invited to be part of a flash mob. I cannot disclose details or I would have to castrate you, but it is happening soon and I will be part of it. My daughter, Emma, has begged to do a flash mob since we saw the one with the Black Eyed Peas on Oprah (you cannot watch this without smiling or getting a boner). This conversation has occurred at least 99 times:

Emma: Mom, can we PLEASE plan a flash mob?

Me: No. I am runner, not a dancer.

The good news is, I did not have to plan or choreograph. I  was invited (probably because I am such a good dancer). Emma and I went to a rehearsal yesterday. I loved every minute of it, but lets just say that while my “running man” needs some work (that God for Youtube), I’m really good at pretending to look sexy while wiping sweat off my head (this is a move in the dancing world).

The flash mob will occur in the next week or so and it will be videotaped for me to share with you. I am living the dream over here.

Shirts:

Today is the final day to pre-order shirts. I will be putting in another order, but not for about a month or so. If you order a shirt now, it will be mailed around July 17.

To see shirts, visit this page and then go to the “store” page to pre-order online.

Okay, going to take it easy to rest up for my big TEST this afternoon.

Do you have a secret thing (ST)? Have you been able to live it out?

Ever been part of a flash mob?

  1. I love that I got this through Twitter.

I have tons of secret things. Like I would love to be President for one day. I would love to drive an Indy Car at 200 mph.

I would also like to be 5'8" tall but that isn't happening no matter how much I throw it out into the world.

Good luck with the flash mob and I can't wait to hear about the test today. That is going to be awesome.

Oh...secretly I wish I were you today to get tested. That would be fun....LOL!

  4. I'd love to be a part of a flash mob. The other thing I think would be fun is being a part of one of those Thriller mobs (don't know official name) that happen usually around Halloween. Have fun with it.

  6. Oh my god - that's awesome. Can't wait to see how it goes. Something weird about me - flash mobs make me all emotional! Ha, seriously, something about teamwork or something gets me every time. :)

  9. I have lots of 'secret things'…some are more secret than others. One of the biggies is that I wish I could sing well, really well. I can hear how bad I am at it which really sucks. I was in a play once where I had to sing and I actually did it and people (not just friends and family) paid me compliments…so it IS in there somewhere! I would love to go to racecar driving school. I wish I could figure out a way to make a ton of money so that my husband could retire and pursue his art. The rest are too embarrassing for this early in the morning :P

  11. I'm just laughing my socks off at the dos equis ad in the sidebar:"I don't always go for a run but when I do, I have to shit 15 minutes in" OMG hilarious. How long has that been there?

My secret dreams: Comrades Marathon, even though I have never run further than a half, and Ironman even though I can't swim and can barely ride a bike.

  17. You know...

It's going to be NATIONAL DANCE DAY soon. So I say, just polish up those dancin' shoes and show everyone your moves no matter how silly you think you'll look!

Also, this MC Hammer flash mob may be my favorite. Or maybe I'm just a GIANT SUCKER for those awesome pants.

  18. I'm really jealous of you right now. I tried out for cheer leading in middle school. My mother still says that was the worst day of her life. She was very supportive but even she knew I sucked.

  19. I always envied runners and hearing people talk about their running. I never thought I could do it because I always felt awful 1/2 mile into a run. In February, I started running that Couch 2 5K program and now I am training for a 10k. It was always my secret thing and now I am so thrilled. I like having sneakers, icing knees, reading about running, and being truly sweaty several times a week.

I have also always wanted to be able to sing, but for my own car singing purposes only.

I had to google "flash mob!"

  20. I've been part of a Zumba flash mob before. It was lots of fun, it was most of the Zumba instructors in our area and our students.

Based on what you've eluded to the dance including... I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the song is by a certain singer who's name starts with B and ends with eyonce. If it's the song I think it is, I teach it in my Zumba class.

My ST this is singing, I want to sing well so badly. Sadly, when I open my mouth it sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

  28. So, I just stumbled upon your blog and noticed you went to JMU. So did I. Small world! I loved that place and never wanted to leave. I almost tried out to be a dukette, but decided it was a bad idea....I have no rhythm either!
